Void Linux: xbps-src Setup and Usage

I don't really like comparing two things. But is xbps-src the AUR of Void?

So how does xbps-install know if a package is restricted? Or it doesn't use the github repo? Where could I read more about this? I mean, where is it specified that I have to install particular package only with xbps-src?

Is there a more minimal way of doing this? The repository with srcpkgs is over 520MB

520mb is literally nothing in 2022... it's basically a drop of water.

@@Chrono-MR If you, for example need a small package, 520MB is a complete waste as for tracking dependencies. Name a package over that size on your system - besides professional software suites, Firefox takes up 120MB, linux in my case - 11MB. Keep in mind you need to keep deps up to date so it becomes a git clone hassle. All in all, everything in xbps-src proves superior to AUR except for the dependency tracking which in AUR's case is simply sensible.
