Hey Jason, really cool videos man! Well done. Quick Question: are the plugins still relevant in the updated GhatGPT (paid version) as of today? Once again, well done on this channel!

They killed plugins ☠ Though a lot of the same plugins are now "Custom GPTs" that anyone can use

Does anyone have any experience with My Tax Prep Office?
Which is a good tax intake app that works with Canadian taxprep software? Our existing software can pull slips directly from the Revenue Service online and prepopulate the tax return, but would like automation/checklist function for the other stuff like rental/medical/child care etc

Jason, I am on ATX. I have looked at switching to another Wolters Kluwer product like ProSystem fx or CCH Axcess, but my understanding is they aren't on the same logic formulas, and therefore very little will actually convert over. Obviously I don't want to take on the headache of that conversion. I was super excited about using StanfordTax this year for organizers, but on a call today, I found out that their integration with ATX isn't going to be complete by January. Do I sign up for it to be done manually with them this year (I can burn some admin hours during a slow December). Or should I look for something else, if so what?

If you know you're going to change software in the next few years I'd rip the bandaid off, and probably steer clear of WK. They are all independent platforms. Drake or UltraTax is my rec for most

How many years of experience would you recommend before starting your own firm? I’ve been looking around and the general consensus seems to be 5-7 years, but would it be possible in 2-5?
@jasoncpa4 күн бұрын
Great Q! It's very dependent on how relevant the experience you're getting is to the shop you want to run For example many folks go into big 4 doing audit but want to open a tax shop At a minimum you probably want a few years highly relevant experience, but I went deeper on this subject here if it's helpful kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYa9fIN_q7aiqqMsi=W3W0VihWOqiuefmu

I am confused why you suggest going ultra niche but your example is a person with 350k followers who posts the most general accounting and finance content (and most of it is just the same dozen of ideas repeated over and over) Also, very confused by you suggesting to provide value first. How exactly is that possible with accounting? The value is in an accountant's experience in error detection and decision making. And third thing I am confused by is what exactly is the unique proposition to an ultra niche business owner? How is a beekeepers books any different from any other micro business ? It would be the most textbook accounting.
@jasoncpa4 күн бұрын
Re: niche, she is super general, I was mainly pointing to her use of lead magnets Re: value first, the approach you're describing is purely the technical accounting bit. The 'doing of the accounting' is what gets you in the door, the greater opportunities lie in solving account-adjacent problems for the entrepreneur. Re: a unique proposition, every industry and type of entrepreneur has unique needs, so the more specific you get the easier it is to find the unique proposition. It's akin to saying an accounting firm is the same as any other professional services biz. In some ways it is, in many ways, that you don't see until you're in the thick of it, it isn't.

I recognize I’m late to the party on this one, but Jason, you’re getting so good with your videos and editing. Regardless, I would love to see a comparison between Uku and FC. I was convinced I was going with FC but now I’m pausing because Uku looks pretty great also. 🎉

Thanks Katherine! Honestly either one is a good choice and they're so similar it probably comes down to some very personal preferences. Try taking both for a spin and see what sticks! I think they both do a free trial.

can you suggest document management software? We need something where once a person reviews a document and inputs the numbers in the tax software, we can stamp the document signifying its done. If that makes sense.
@LightemupWMH13 күн бұрын
@@kgtstudios4850 you could use Adobe Pro stamps to do that. If you're just looking for a uniform way to mark items done. Could also change file names once an item is complete.

Im wondering if anyone has used the ProSeries native tax intake/organizer. It comes with the software package, so I was going to use that this year. Not sure if its worth it to pay for Stanford Tax if ProSeries will do something essentially the same.
@katherinemyers202413 күн бұрын
He covers this in the video. Not specifically ProSeries, but the same limitations apply. Test them both and figure out if the money is worth it to save time by having software manage all that for you.
@LightemupWMH13 күн бұрын
@katherinemyers2024 I watched the video. I also watched his videos where Jason has said to ask in the comments for social proof from people who have done both and get the benefit of their mistakes. The salesperson for ProSeries believes their online organizer is very similar functionality to the Stanford Tax one. So it would be nice to see if someone has tried both. I'll do a test run of the ProSeries one this week and see for myself, but I was asking in case someone else has experience with it.
@katherinemyers202413 күн бұрын
@@LightemupWMH I personally never take a sales persons’ thoughts and always test myself. At the end of the day, they make money if you purchase and likely won’t see you again after you sign up. Unfortunately, I do not have experience with both to help, but from what I’ve heard ProSeries does not do follow-ups nor do they “read” and organize the documents for you based on what it includes. I additionally don’t believe it can handle a bundle and separate according to type, however, it’s been about 9 years since I was in ProSeries and haven’t heard great things about the portal since. However, I agree to definitely test it yourself and find out 😊 because everyone’s needs are different!

Very compelling solution. I signed up, only to discover “The integration for ProConnect is coming soon.” Since Stanford relies on tax data backup files, which cloud-based ProConnect doesn’t have, is support REALLY coming soon?
@DanBerenholtz14 күн бұрын
Hi Paul, Dan here from StanfordTax:) Just wanted to let you know we're opening that up tomorrow (the integration for ProConnect uses the Lacerte data file which you can request from your account manager at ProConnect - we'll be providing the instructions)
