All the continuity errors that shouldn't be different yet makes me think of MK9 as it has a similar issue. Much like What If, the story of MK9 revolves around one minor change greatly altering the timeline and changing it from what we know. The alteration was Raiden receiving future visions which causes him to change his actions. This allows for things to happen differently for certain aspects but some things in the MK story should still be the same as Raiden at the start of the MK1 segment of the story has no way to change them..except they are already different. Characters that weren't in the first MK Tournament are inexplicably there like Baraka. For some reason the Lin-Kuei are working with Shang-Tsung instead of trying to assassinate him and Kano is also working for the Outworld forces when he is at first captured by them along with Sonya and only starts working for them later. The continuity errors continue as Mileena, a clone of Kitana, is a new creation when in the original games she was already alive during the first tournament, Raiden has no way to change this. Another thing is in the original games, Shao-Kahn intentionally keeps Sindel's soul for a potential failsafe plan if he loses the MK Tournaments, using this soul to revive her in Earthrealm so he can legally set foot there to claim his wife, thus enabling an invasion. In MK9 however, Quan-Chi tells him this idea even though Shao-Kahn already came up with this idea centuries ago so it shouldn't be a new idea. Similarly, Sindel committed suicide solely to get away from Shao-Kahn, leaving her daughter Kitana at his mercy whereas in MK9 she apparently killed herself to put up a protective barrier to keep Shao-Kahn out of Earthrealm, another difference that is impossible as there is no way Raiden could have changed this. Essentially, MK9 proposes the idea of going back to the first three games, where the future visions Raiden receives starts to alter things from that point on except...things are already different before Raiden even starts changing things. The writers didn't even try to keep the same stories from those previous three games and thus there were continuity errors from the word go. It seems What If did the same thing according to this video which is even more egregious. At least with the first three MK games, there isn't too much story to go off of (just character profiles, endings and tie in comics) so some leeway can be expected but the MCU is suppose to be a tightly woven narrative, told throughout multiple movies and shows. EVen if this is a spin-off, it is still based off the MCU and thus should know its continuity. Then again, considering the actual MCU movies and shows don't remember their continuity, it isn't too shocking that a spin off can't.

I think a lot of people didn't/don't like this movie because it's not what they expected. But I think if you look simply at the quality of the writing without any preconceptions about what a Spider-Man movie should be, it's pretty clear how great of a movie it is.

My writing score and enjoyment are two things I separate. There are some movies I like that are obviously very poorly written, for example Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. That movie is a bona fide 1/10 but oh man does it crack me up every time. The episode has pretty major flaws but I enjoy parts of the character writing, which is why I would give it a 4/10 despite enjoying it.

1. If enregy from intelligent life is needed for the emergence, what does that actually mean for humans during the emergence? If it's sacrifical fuel for it why didn't all the humans die before Tiamut could even move? If it's not sacrifical and just is needed to wake him up, why the need to kill all the humans? Why not just do the farm thing excempt have massive ships you have them in near the planet? If energy from intelligent life was needed, does that mean you could have something like Jarvis or Ultron fulfill that purpose? If that's the case could Tiamut have been awoken by Ultron in the 'What if...' episode where basically fills the planet with clones of him? Can Tiamut just build enough eternals to hatch a celestial? 2. Galaxies don't form around suns, they form around supermassive blackholes because suns can't be massive enough to anchor a whole galaxy.

I loved the video and I'm most definitively subscribing. It's amusing all the way through. Man this show is so, frustrating and disappointing, you give it an o/10 and while it is terrible writing-wise, I see some art direction and composition of shots and some of the acting that is good, but it's just wasted and it doesn't mean anything. And there are individual bits of the time-slipping that I could rationalize in a vacuum and enjoy. For example I like the conversation with OB in episode 1 and I believe such a system with a meta-meta-time could work; but scenes don't exist on a vacuum, there is no consistency, I cannot say that time slipping works in any particular way, it's whatever is convenient for the writers. And as someone who likes time travel and found an scene with a time traveling mechanic that seemed interesting, it's disappointing and frustrating. Because even if I could create rules in my head to make sense out of it, I don't think the writers did and even if they did, why should I care to justify or think logically about any given scene when every other use of the same ability contradicts it? Without internal coherency, there is no meaning and no value to what happens. Whatever, a couple of things I wanted to bring up that I don't fully agree with. 17:17 You say that Mobius' variant liking Jet skies is nothing but a coincidence. I don't think so, (the framing doesn't lead me to believe that) I believe this shows that these variants are still the people Loki knows, in their core personality and nature, as if trying to tell the viewer that these are still the same characters and not just "Temporal aura" sources. Trying to play out "these were Loki's friends, even if they don't have their memories, they are still the same people and you should care". I believe that's the intention the writers had. It's the feeling I got with both OV and Mobius, they telling you "These are the same characters". 24:03 Loki does end up with the people he is looking for. Variants of the people he is looking for is still close, understanding that these variants should be similar if not identical to past versions of his friends, he is getting to the people he is looking for, not in the right time, but the right people with the right "temporal aura", he doesn't find random variants of random people, he gets variants of the people he is looking for. So while the idea of "Mastering time-slipping" is dumb and quite a leap in logic. OB's variant observation is correct, Loki is getting to the people he is looking for. And to get to such conclusion is logical for OB, because either by random chance in the infinity of time and space Loki is meeting with variants of the people he wants to find, or he in some subconscious way is directing the time-slipping. I find the latter way more logically coherent. But who cares really, OB is all over the place specially in this episode, I just wanted to defend the one time he was making some amount of logical sense.

To be fair to the infamous Ultron scene, Thanos doesn’t get stronger when he has the gauntlet. He is the same exact strength as always, just with access to broken abilities when he uses his gauntlet. Vision is insanely broken but is a bit of a pacifist so he never ever goes all out. His beam should be as strong as an infinity stone at full power, something that Thanos cannot beat. Ultron also just walked up and did that so Thanos had zero time to even realize what was happening. It also works because it shows that characters have niches, if Thanos had time to close his fist and use the stones he’d win but if you rush him down you win. Makes for much more interesting dynamics. That being said the entire rest of What If is really pointless. Many marvel/dc what if stories mean something. Batman who laughs shows just how much Batman is always holding back, and how he truly isn’t as dark and twisted as others believe. What does Black Panther becoming star lord show us about anything? That he is who he is because he raised that way? Sure, but so are all of us so what is it really saying about anything? Or Sharon Carter becoming cap, that Cap’s mentality is a dime a dozen and anyone with some heart and a serum can be him? That kinda detracts from what made him special (falcon picking up the shield brought an entire new perspective and dynamic to what it means to be Cap, Sharon Carter does nothing new or interesting). The whole thing is a giant waste of the time. The only good episode is the doctor strange one as it shows us how fragile of a person he is and he is only 1 bad day away from destroying everything. Does he even deserve his power if he’s this unstable and the consequences are so vast? Very good stuff. Everything else is worthless

The Hawkeye hacking arrow can actually be explained with some pretty cool real world tech(although it would be risky and relies on certain hardware), you can actually shock certain computers on boot using specific voltages to execute arbitrary code, making it theoretically possible to make a device that can attach to certain points that wouldn’t be traditionally considered I/O(like maybe the power rail going to the eye?), it’s a real stretch but just some cool tech I’d share

@puggietaur what year were those databanks built in, if they are supposed to be Cold War era then it’s not unreasonable that technology(especially from someone who has worked with stark) exists to hold all the data, computers used to take up rooms for millions of time less data than what can fit on a micro sd card

Ironic note but the bouncing of the shield actually isn't to do with him being a super soldier, other characters pull it off in the comics and the MCU (Sam Wilson primarily). It's actually a plot hole because it's stated in both that it can do that due to being made of vibranium, and the Red Guardian shield is not made of Vibranium and never showed any sort of similar ability.
@puggietaur
@puggietaur 13 сағат бұрын
I consider Sam Wilson doing it to be a plot hole as well. Even if it doesn't require an immense amount of strength (which I think it would) the accuracy is absolutely insane and the only way to explain that away is that the super soldier serum makes him super accurate at those kind of things

11:14 I don’t think it’s actually a recon. I think it just shows that Thanos assumed taking out half of a population would just magically make them thrive. The problem with doing it at random is that the half being killed could be doctors, farmers and scientists. The ones that live could’ve been the criminals, the degenerates and the absolute morons of society so their people would die out without the smart ones to keep them going

The only thing I'll point out about Hank Pym going off the deep end, in a bit of disagreement, is that I don't think it's completely impossible for him to snap. Hank, from what we've seen of him in the MCU so far, doesn't really seem to have any friends or family that he consistently interacts with besides Janet (who at this point has been believed dead for many many years) and Hope. Then Hope went and worked with the same organization that working for lead to Janet's "death", and then Hope died whilst on a mission (one that possibly could've been the same mission Natasha went on where she encountered the Winter Soldier). Sure, Hank definitely wouldn't have immediately jumped to murder, but they mentioned that Hope died 2 YEARS ago. So, Hank who doesn't really seem to have any form of social life or friends, is basically alone for two entire years thinking about Hope's death and possibly even Janet's as well. No form of support system for his mental health plus an already existing dislike of SHIELD could, COULD, eventually cause him to spiral and snap. I do think it (this specifically) could've been handled a bit better, like maybe showing us a flashback montage of Hank's slow descent as grief and anger consume him, and then the moment that finally pushed him over the edge. People in the real world have killed others for harming or killing their children, I honestly could see Hank possibly reaching that point given his lack of a support system + his existing dislike of SHIELD + he clearly cares a lot about Hope and her safety (it's one of the big reasons he got Scott to use the suit in Ant-Man instead of just letting Hope wear the suit like she wanted.) I do 100% agree tho that Hank really comes across as stupid in the episode tho, they had the opportunity to make a terrifying villain with Pym's intellect. He (with the others I will add) put together a highly detailed plan in Ant-Man 1 to steal the Yellowjacket suit, but his plan in this episode is so stupid and basically built upon pure chance and luck. It'd have been much more terrifying if the characters only managed to stop him by using every skill they have and getting just lucky enough (but not to the stupid degree seen in the episode) to win. If I was rewriting it: I'd have it so Fury is being investigated as Pym makes it look like Fury is responsible (planting evidence, lining things up perfectly), with that being intentional on Pym's part. Fury would have a low consequence for the first murder, but Thor and then Hawkeye's murder would have him stripped of his position and under full investigation, only not under arrest because Coulson vouched for him (lets say Coulson goes in with him to talk to Hawkeye, so he knows Fury didnt kill Clint). Then the Hulk dies, but I think Fury wouldn't be arrested for that (the military seemingly wanted to kill Hulk anyways if I remember right), but he WOULD be arrested for Natasha because then it'd look like he'd gotten rid of his co-conspirators and this time Coulson can't vouch for him (maybe Coulson is even suspicious at this point, not fully trusting Fury is innocent). Then Fury plays one last card, asking for them to try one last thing to try and if he's wrong, he'll accept whatever they have in mind for him (I dont know how Fury would know to do this, I'm not rewriting the entire episode rn). Coulson supports this (which is how it happens at all), but it's clear at this point that this is Coulson's last bit of trust. Then, when Fury is in his cell... the camera shorts out and then Hank Pym appears, and he explains everything. How he fell over time (maybe he brings up little things that pushed him ever further, like saying something like "And at the funeral? You didn't even show up, too busy they said, and those that did? All they talked about was what she did for SHIELD, for YOU!") and eventually snapped, how he had planned to just go after Fury's two spies and Coulson before he hacked (in this rewrite he's smart enough to hack in, he doesn't need no old credentials) into SHIELD and discovered the Avengers Initiative, something Fury had spent decades on. So, he decided to take it and everyone who supported Fury away from him (with Thor being an actual accident maybe. And the only reason he's telling Fury before he finishes the job and kills Coulson, is because he wants Fury to think about how Hank took everything from him just like how Hank had for the last two years. Fury counters that now that he knows about Hank, he'll tell everyone, but Hank says that he blew his house up before the first murder and made it look like he'd died inside (did I take a little inspiration from Avengers EMH? Maybe). No one will believe Fury that the guy who died before the first murder killed everyone. Hank goes to leave to finish his plan before the 'Avengers' appear, which catches him off-guard. They begin attacking and Hank seems to have the upper hand, until it's revealed it was all just an illusion with Loki tricking him into a false sense of security in order to strike at the right time, disabling Pym's suit. Then Fury would reveal the voice recorder hidden in his jacket, which had been recording the entire time, he'd turn it off. Maybe could end it off with Fury saying something like: "James Rhodes, who's last moments with Stark was a fight. Betty Ross, who watched her friend die in front of her. Asgard, who all lost their prince and friend. Clint Barton's wife and kids, who you didn't know about but now they will have to live without him. You didn't just hurt me, you hurt them, you took away someone from them and they didn't have anything to do with Hope, SHIELD, or you. For what it's worth, I'm sorry about Hope, I wish I could change what happened or that I'd at least checked in to make sure you weren't completely alone, but that doesn't change the fact you tore away friends and family from innocent people just to get at me." Could even have Hank show genuine regret and guilt at this, whilst yes he did go off the deep end that doesn't mean he's a full-on psychopath now and feels nothing. And now that's its being laid out for him, now that he's actually looking at the full consequences of his actions without revenge clouding his mind, he realizes that he messed up. Oh also after this Rhodey as War Machine (or Iron Man, if he takes up that mantle) should've been in the Avengers lineup for this universe.

I feel like Gamora's continuity break of being the last of her race is a bigger break than we're giving it credit. She went from a sole survivor of her planet to now just being a kidnapped member of it to help lend credence to Thanos' methods when there were other ways to do that without undoing her background. Their conversation also implies that she never went back to her home planet after joining the guardians to see that her home is now flourishing, which goes against her character in my opinion.
@puggietaur
@puggietaur 13 сағат бұрын
Their conversation implies the opposite. If she went back to see her planet flourishing, that would precisely explain why she is unable to refute Thanos' point that that is the case. The scene makes sense if we contradict the "last of her people thing" and instead have it that her planet flourished, she went back to check as has Thanos, meaning they both have this information which is why it is taken as truth in the conversation, thus she has to appeal to the immoral method of reaching that
