@beyond_thebench yes agreed... Those hits were every game. It wasn't the fights which I think is whatbthe NHL argues. Also, Shanahan, Tucker, Verbeek, Cicerelli also fought we don't see the issues with players that also scored. It is Enforcers and the majority suffered from substance abuse.. There's a lot we still do not understand

If I'm not mistaken, Jarome Iginla, who is of mixed race, was the first black athlete to win a gold medal at the Winter Olympics. With all his NHL accolades, his World Jr Gold and tourney MVP, his, in conjunction with Sidney Crosby's OT heroics in Vancouver in 2010, etcetera, it will take some doing for any 'IGGY' progeny to eclipse what their father achieved. . Speaking of father-son comparisons, some say, 'The Golden Brett' (Brett Hull) eclipsed father Bobby. It's close, but I disagree. Without bothering to look anything up, if you add Bobby Hull 's, Gordie Howe's, and Wayne Gretzky's NHL and WHA scoring totals, although Wayne still leads, they're reasonably close. I'm an old dog, who saw all of the above play. Hull SR was a far better skater, and had a harder shot than his son. To be fair, Brett Hull, who had the luxury of playing alongside Adam Oates, had the deadliest one-timer in NHL history. Man, could he snipe! Again it's close, but I'd have to give the edge (We're talking strictly hockey prowess here) to 'The Golden Jet'. PEACE OUT

Ratings are down since they moved to keep fighting out. Hockey is already the least popular sport in North America. We don't need it to become less popular. Bring back old time hockey. Players are adults who can make their own decisions about their health. They're not children who need to be "protected from themselves". From a basic business perspective, hockey with fighting makes more money than hockey without fighting. Stop pussifying our beloved game.
@beyond_thebench16 күн бұрын
I wouldnt say there has been moves to specially eliminate fighting in the NHL? Rule changes that benefit a faster and more skilled game for sure. If they wanted to eliminate fighting, they straight up would. Everyone can agree there is a place for fighting in the NHL and that cant change ever. Its what makes our game the best!
@beyond_thebench16 күн бұрын
Ratings have been down in the last decade or so ya. But that can also be attributed to poor TV deals. This season was a record year for ratings actually. The push on TNT definitely helped with that tho. www.sportsvideo.org/2024/04/23/ratings-roundup-nhl-hits-record-high-viewership-and-fan-engagement-in-decades/

@beyond_thebench16 күн бұрын
Most of the blame for the recent deaths in the last decade or so is on fighting…look at the players. CTE or not, the psychological effects are evident. I love fighting like the rest of hockey fans. Simply stating that there needs or needed to be better resources for those players.
