This will always be my favorite era of quad racing. For the longest, it was the 2005/6-2010 era because we had never seen production quads that good. Now looking back, I prefer the short lived hybrid and 250r years. I've been out of racing for over 10 years now, but something about those machines were so cool. I guess it's also because those are the years that made me fall in love with the sport.

I've known Donny all my life, my dad and his were friends, we bought SEVERAL motorcycles and dirt bikes from him and his dad at Capitol Cycle.. His mother is a nurse, when I was around 10 yrs old I had to go to their house twice a week for her to give me allergy shots.. haven't seen him in years, I hope he's doing good.!! I'm sure proud to have known him, saw him race dirtbikes several times growing up.. I've even rode my bike at his motocross tracks a few times.. He's a super nice guy..!!

Dude! I used to watch your videos when I was a kid had the huevos 1-3 box set. We rode hard as kids, I actually ended up building a 400ex race bike and raced TT nationals at Ashtabula in 2012 . I know media is consumed very differently than years passed, but I'd love to have an opportunity to purchase a box set of some raw footage similar to this. There are still a bunch of us "older" guys who put this stuff on in the garage and appreciate the work done to get it there! I hope you keep this going, amazing to see this footage. Do you think any of these Golden Era guys could hang with Wienen or Hetrick? It just seems like the skill level is so much higher today.
@YFZ524 ай бұрын
Equipment and technology is different, training programs are more intense, and 4 stroke motors have insane torque in comparison. With all these advancements, it's truly comparing apples to oranges. You need to imagine the dudes of yesterday in their prime on the modern machinery if today. I think they'd hold their own quite well. So many variables though.
@Kermit464 ай бұрын
@@YFZ52 I think I disagree a little , when Chad first came on the scene he was dominating a lot of the golden era guys. His skill set was just so much higher and the only one in that league is Hetrick
@YFZ524 ай бұрын
@@Kermit46 right you are, but let's not forget he was young and the other boys were getting older at that point. Hard to say. Like all sports, the bar seems to get set higher and higher in each generation. It's hard to compare. Chad and Joel (and Jeffrey, Bryce, Hoag, Genusa, etc.) are the modern day top riders that have set this bar. I've raced in the pre-450 days and the 250r's are legendary but also far more of a handful to race than a modern MX build. Respect is due regardless of who can crank the faster lap.
@dougdecker12614 ай бұрын

Hey Wes, do you remember what the tire was these guys would groove and use on the front? I think I remember a Dirt Wheels article about them being a specific cargo trailer tire. I remember when the front Holeshot MX come out. Dad bought me a set as fast as the dealer could get them. Holeshot MX up front and grooved Turf Tamer rear on my 250R. That was the hot setup on our southeast red clay.
