I would do anything to travel back in time and get to experience the golden era of aviation, just seems like companies actually cared more for their customers. Instead the big 3 monopolies we are left with today.

Yes, meal service was still included on a relatively long flight like this one. Unfortunately, I don't recall what the meal (lunch) consisted of. I do believe that on the return L-1011 flight the dinner main entree (coach) was a rectangular shaped slice of pizza.

I worked for Midway Airlines for two years up to the time they went under. I worked in their data center. I really like working there although some of the people in I.T. were not all that great. I did learn a new computer platform and was able to fly free on my off time. When they shut down they owed me nearly $700 bucks in back pay. Once everything was settled I only got $17 bucks. It was a fun job while I stilled lived at home. Good memories.

Thanks for sharing that rather unpleasant experience. The reason the stewardesses often handed out chewing gum (usually Chiclets) back in those DC-3/4 days was so passengers could "pop their ears" easier as the plane descended.

The sound of that engine scares the H.E. Double Toothpicks out of me! 😮 I know, I know. I'm not naive, I've flown on first generation 747s across the Atlantic Ocean and some the sounds would scare me also (I was around 8 years old) The landing gear going down when you weren't expecting it is one. Sometimes breaking after landing sounded like worn brake pads scraping on metal to metal. The feel of the speed breaks when it was getting ready to land freaked me out. I forget which G.E. engine on modern planes are the ones that sound awesome. They also made engines on s lot of older Boeing models, I want to say 727s that sounded awesome. But this engine, the entire trip sounded like someone was strangling geese with their bare hands! 😂 But really, it lacks thar " Bass Sound" that puts me, and I'm sure a lot of people at ease because the engines sound strong and healthy! This one doesn't. And I'm sure these engines are awesome, strong and healthy. It's just that the sound doesn't calm me. 😂

This is a fun video, however it looks better in 2024 than it did in 1994 / it’s more Route 66 oriented now with new businesses everywhere, the new entrance to TU is off of 11th St. and the intersection of 11th and Lewis has been completely redone and new businesses, such as the mother road market, new cool apartments, LED and neon lighting Reinstalled on many of the businesses both old and new // Chapman Field at Skelly Stadium has been renovated

This is a tragedy that is way beyond imagination and way beyond sad , Even though this happened before I was born , My thoughts and prayers go out to all the fallen and injured victims My dad used to work for Gulf oil and one night he was watching a disaster documentary on some of the worst disasters that happened in the world , The Texas City disaster was profiled on the show and my dad called me to the TV set and seeing that footage , I was totally stunned and speechless and the narrator of the show said that officials were suspicious that it was caused by a discarded cigarette aboard the SS Grandcamp , My dad was stunned and speechless too and he taught me about how to handle and store gasoline and other flammable materials and the show made me realize how terrible a gasoline fire is This is definitely worse than the Chicago fire back in the late 1800s They were saying that the death toll was around 600 people dead but I'll bet it was over 1000 because of the intense fires , I'll bet that alot of bodies were literally creamated , The death toll in the Chicago fire was around 300 and it took at least a week to get the fires put out I felt really sad that all those innocent people had passed away and many others were badly injured My dad kept reminding me that they're in a better place , In God's heaven May God's love always be with all the fallen victims and their families and friends , Especially all the firemen , Rescue workers , Doctors and all the rest who rendered help God bless all of them for what they went through on that tragic day and that they will never be forgotten I pray that a tragedy like this will never happen again

I've never been to the USA, but have become obsessed with watching videos of the E9's, especially the Burlington ones. The USA built so many beautiful streamlined diesel locos from the 1930's to the 1950's, but there's something indefinably special about the E series. They are more than just locos, they are moving pieces of design art

Great video. It’s like we are there experiencing this like u did. I was a teen in 91 but was well acquainted with both Lambert and Sky Harbor airports. I was only able to fly twice on TWA L1011 from PHX to Vegas and back in 89. It’s so sad to see the once mighty Lambert field reduced to Southwest 737’s and other smaller jets and lots of empty space. I remember Lambert used to be filled with Jumbos and no empty space!

It hasn't changed dramatically since '94. I remembered the McDonald's before you got to Harvard, but had forgotten about the KFC on the south side of the street. Probably the biggest changes here were the restaurants on the north side that were torn down when TU bought the streetside properties. . Now if somebody had done this in 1974 or better yet 1954, it would really be fascinating!

I agree Midway Airlines was indeed "a cool airline" having flown on it several times back in the 1980s. I once flew Midway from Midway airport to Des Moines, IA. Des Moines was "completely socked in" due to fog. The captain got on the intercom and asked the passengers which alternate airport they'd like to go to for the night, Kansas City or Minneapolis-St Paul? K.C. won out. The airline put us up in individual rooms at a nice Hyatt Hotel near the airport and also paid for our dinner that night. The next day's short flight to DSM was uneventful.
