How's she goin'? I do like to plow snow Jack, but come March or April I have to say, I'm not sorry to see the longer days and warmer temps!! LOL I'm not real sure what our average snowfall is around here. Some years we won't get any snow till maybe mid January and the it'll snow pretty good till April. This year was a bit different. We had snow before Christmas and it has stayed around. I'd say we probably get 24 to 36 inches of snow a year on average but at any one time there is probably only a foot or so that stays around. Take 'er easy!!

That GC 2300 is a mighty tractor,, bonus, it started!! Now a new GoPro battery! Ha! Still not enough snow to plow here. It is snowing now, but maybe we'll get an inch or two. Here in MN we are not allowed to plow snow across a road! Anyway, stay warm and well. H ito Nannie! Cheers!
@GrampiesWorkshop44 минут бұрын
How's she goin'? The battery in the GoPro usually does pretty good but I guess the cold had it's way with it!! Not being allowed to plow across the road is not a bad idea. When I plow my lane and push the snow across the road but I always make sure I clean up the road when I'm finished. I didn't show it here but I spend a lot of time out at the road making sure there is no wind rows left from me pushing snow across it. I remember when I used to plow the lake road. Guys would plow their lanes and push the snow across the road and just leave it with the wind rows. Then it would freeze and when I plowed the road it would near rattle the teeth out of me plus it's hard on the tractor. So that's a decent rule if you ask me!! Thanks for watching Mike. Take 'er easy!!

@GrampiesWorkshop49 минут бұрын
How's she goin'? Thanks for commenting on my video! The GC2300 are awesome tractors eh!! I'm glad you like yours!! I have a heavy snow blower on the back of my GC2300 and I also have a Quick Hitch. The Quick Hitch causes the snow blower to hang off the back by another 4 inches or so. This little difference makes a big difference in the weight on the front wheels. So my set up for the GC is lite on the front end and that's why my steering is affected in deep snow. Take 'er easy!!

The snow looks great. The snow plowing looked fun and I like how you were using the angle of the blade to help with the steering
@GrampiesWorkshop8 сағат бұрын
How's she goin'? Thanks for watching Joseph. We are getting some more snow today. Maybe another 3 or 4 inches!! So maybe do some night plowing tonight!! I have no chains on the front wheels of the tractor and with the 4 inches of extra length on the rear due to the Quick Hitch the tractor gets lite on the front end. So using the blade to help steer is a handy thing to do!! But the wings on the blade hinder that process, so like I say, every solution has a problem!! LOL Thanks for the visit. Take 'er easy!!

Good day MIke, I was wondering, I know nothing about your GC2300 tractor, but my CK20S Kioti has an hydrostatic transmission disconnect 'clutch pedal' which when held down during cold weather starting, helps tremendously , does your Massey Ferguson have this pedal?
@GrampiesWorkshop9 сағат бұрын
How's she goin'? Thanks for the comment Reg! No the Massey Fergsuon GC2300 awesome tractor doesn't have that ability. But I can see where it would be an advantage for cold starts. When I start my tractor I put all gearboxes in neutral and start, but it still has to turn the hydraulic pump. That feature on your Kioti would be easier on your hydraulic pump too eh!! Yes, that's an interesting option. Thanks for mentioning that. Take 'er easy!!
@regsparkes65075 сағат бұрын
@@GrampiesWorkshop There are few changes that I wish I could have done to the mechanics of this Kioti BEFORE I bought it, I can tell you. The newer Kioti`s now have these issues changed or corrected, but no help from Kioti Factory for those of us who have had to pay dearly for this engineering screw ups in this model I can assure you.

Another good job Mike. I’m just wondering, would the snow blower be better to use ? Just thinking it would get the snow further back that way you wouldn’t have to worry about a snow bank building up on the edges, and probably easier on the tractor. I’m sure your doing what’s best for your situation. 👍👍 stay warm.
@GrampiesWorkshop9 сағат бұрын
How's she goin'? Thanks for the comment Rick!! That's a good one. Here's my take on that. The blower sure does get the snow well back from the edges and you always want to plow for the next storm so you will have room to pile the snow. But to use the blower I need to run the tractor at a high RPM to get the PTO speed to where the blower is efficient. So if I run the tractor at high RPM it uses more fuel. And with the blower I need to travel slow. When I plow, I still go slow, but I don't need the RPM as high. Typically with the blower the RPM is about 2500. When I'm plowing the RPM is about 2000. Not a lot of difference but it does make a difference in the amount of fuel burnt. And when you're cheap like me that's important! LOL Thanks again for watching and take 'er easy!!

Your Massey seems to do a reasonably good job with the 6 to 8 inch snow. In case of deeper snow it might be to your advantage if you rid yourself of the limbs and small trees crowding the lane so that you could do a better job winging the snow. Then again...who cares?...It's not my circus and not my monkey. (lol)
@GrampiesWorkshop10 сағат бұрын
How's she goin'? Thanks for watching. The plow on my tractor has a hard time getting the snow to roll off the blade and over the bank when the banks get high. Hey Mike. Looks like you got about as much snow as we did. Supposed to snow more tonight and stop tomorrow morning. My neighbours are away so I shoveled their sidewalks too and now I’m an achy unit. I’ve thought about getting a place in the country when I retire and always thought I’d get a skidsteer, but after watching your videos I realize how much more versatile a small tractor would be. Do you always plow the driveway the same or do you switch patterns to keep it exciting?
@GrampiesWorkshop8 сағат бұрын
How's she goin'? Well Bruce I tried different patterns (for the excitement like you say) but in the end I tend to plow the same way. In and out the lane 3 or 4 times and then put the wings on and clear off the landings. If you ever get a place in the country having a tractor is a must I'd say. They can do so much. I have often thought of getting a bigger tractor. But as you see in this video (and many others with the tractor) having the small tractor is just about perfect for a homestead. It can get into tight spots and is still big enough to do bigger jobs, just takes a little more time. Getting the tractor was a smart move for me. I thought it was a lot of money when I bought it. But that was 18 years ago and the tractor is working as well today as when I first got it so the investment was well worth it!! Thanks for commenting. Take 'er easy!!

A hack I read about 6 or 7 years ago, and added to my plow to stop digging into the gravel or adjacent grass areas before the frost is fully in the ground. Get a piece of 1.5 inch or 2 inch abs pipe the with of your plow. On your table saw cut a slit end to end. Now slide (actually hammer it on with a wooden block) it on the bottom of your plow blade starting on one end. In the 6 or 7 years I have only replaced it once, the abs is very durable in freezing conditions.
@GrampiesWorkshop23 сағат бұрын
How's she goin'? Thanks for that idea John. I have skid shoes on my plow that I set for about an inch off the grade and that seems to work good. But the ABS is a good idea too. Thanks for dropping by tonight. Stay warm and take care!!
@johnferris4237Күн бұрын
Nice tractor Mike. Great feeling to get out and clear a snow fall. Looks like your light front end affecting your steering is the result of the big blower on the back. Not sure if you can add weights to the front to counter balance. One trick to add extra weight to your front end is not lowering the plow (keep it 3 inches off the ground) the weight of the plow will help with your steering when pushing a large amount of snow. Of course this means you would have to do extra passes to tidy up that last 3 inches.
@GrampiesWorkshop23 сағат бұрын
How's she goin'? When I first geared up my tractor with the blade and blower I had chains on the front end and it steered a lot better. But then I added a Quick Hitch for the rear attachments. This added about 4 inches out the back. That 4 inches, plus I don't have the front chains on any more, make the front end pretty lite. But I can steer it pretty good with the blade so it's not all bad. LOL Thanks for the ideas John. You have some good ideas for running the gear. Thanks. Take 'er easy!

Hi Mike, nice down fall of snow you have had there lucky you have the plough, try by given the glow plugs 20 seconds, i noticed the white smoke when you were turning it over and that reminded me of a old case tractor we had on the farm i worked at and we had to give it a good 25 seconds 👍👍
@GrampiesWorkshopКүн бұрын
How's she goin'? I was wondering if longer glow plug time might help. The manual says 10 seconds of glow plugs. And when I checked into that, the consensus is if you leave them on longer than 10 seconds you run the risk of burning them out. So I run them for 10 seconds and try to start. If it doesn't start I run the glow plugs again for another 10 seconds. And so on. That's what I did here. The 3rd time as the charm. So in essence I had the glow plugs on for 30 seconds. Just not all at once. LOL Thanks for the comment Nev. I appreciate your input! Take 'er easy!!

How's she goin'? We haven't had as much snow as we normally get so far Griff. But there is still March to get through so you never know. And about not blowing out the lane. Here's my take on that. Until the banks get to high for the snow to roll off the mold board and over the bank I'll keep plowing. When I use the blower I need to run the tractor at about 2200 RPM to get the 580 RPM for the blower PTO. But I have to go slow when blowing. That takes a lot more fuel. If I can plow I can run at a lower RPM and get the lane plowed quicker using less fuel. You see, when you're as cheap as I am, these things matter!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
