Hello Susan. I now have my machine and it caused me untold headaches. At point 3:43 on your video it shows the yarn by the first brush wheel. When I do this the brush wheel picks up the yarn and jambs it into all the other wheels under the sinker plate. The machine then locks up and I have to strip it down and untangle the mess. That takes ages. The only way I can get it to knit is to bring the yarn OVER the top of the sinker plate. What am I doing wrong please? Kind regards, JennyB

My machine has been back with me now for 4 hours after a full service and repairs. I set it up just as you have but the last 4 needles did not catch on the first run through. When I ran the carriage back the whole lot jammed into the brushes underneath. Eventually I got it to run but generally half of the end stitches miss and leave loops. I am using a 4 ply light weight. Problem is, the machine came back with ALL the stitches knitted very nicely and a beautiful swatch about 12 rows. It is obviously ME but where am I going wrong? I ran the video at %25 speed and paused it to see your settings but that was not too successful. Any ideas please? Regards Dennis.

Hello again, When you finished your work you just slid the carriage across. How do you cast off to stop the work unravelling? Another question, I see the work is starting to "tube". Is there any way to stop SS from rolling up into a tube? It's most annoying. Thank for your video. Regards, JennyB.

Hello, I have just bought a Singer 321 but it has yet to arrive. Why do you take half of the needles back at 2:43 ? If I hand knit a standard K1P1 rib can I just transfer the stitches from my straight pins to the machine? The group tell me that we need lots of baby cardigans because Easter was last March. ;) Your explanations seem very straight forward. Excited to get my machine and try it. JennyB

I have no idea how a knitting machine works, but the idea is being able to do Stocking stitch, maybe ribbing , and use punch cards sounds like it would be perfect for what I want to do. I’ve had nothing but trouble since I got my singer 321 knitting machine I’m working on replacing the needles at the moment but only now am I realising I don’t have the weaving brushes for the sinker plate I have managed to start knitting on my machine it’s when I get to a certain amount of rows that it has issues, is that because I don’t have the weaving brushes?

The problem is the Garter Carriage manual gives you directions for the 950, not the 950i, the machines work differently. The book is telling you to enter the card reading mode, to get a plain row for casting on, which on the 950 is 901, on the 950i, however, it is 777. On 950, programme your pattern in you are going to knit with the garter carriage and when you have the ready light, enter 901, then you can do your garter carriage automatic cast on. After cast on, press CR and CF and continue knitting in your pattern. On the 950i, the procedure is the same, however, enter 777 instead of 901. Hope this helps.
