I love your videos, they combine my favorite things as well. I started a hatz about 20 yrs ago, then had twins…needless to say the fuselage has been in the rafters. I’m nearing retirement and plan to get back on it then. I’m glad to see they can be used for cross country. I recently acquired an Airdromes Aeroplanes Fokker D.VII, which I really enjoy flying. But as a single place that only weighs about 600lbs, it’s not a cross country flyer. I’m curious if you painted the earcups of your David Clark’s? The brown color looks so much better with your leather cap. I have been thinking about doing that, but was afraid it wouldn’t take well.
@DanasWings7 күн бұрын
@@HangarGang Thanks... yes, I painted the earcups brown, satin Rust-Oleum "espresso brown". It's still holding up well, though I no longer have the Hatz, traded it for a Rose Parrakeet so probably not much airplane camping in the future.

Love this video! Any advice for flying into Marcy?
@DanasWings5 ай бұрын
Not really... it's a grass field like any other, plenty long, just has mountains alongside. I would be leery of attempting it in poor visibility or high winds, though. Being surrounded by mountains, you don't see it until you're practically above it, especially if approaching from the east or west.

Very nice. I have a hatz cb1 project I'll finish after my Dyke Delta that'll start test flights soon. My hatz has the spring gear and travel air style tail with 150HP. I like enclosed cabins with speed and fuel economy buy on the other side of the spectrum I love low and slow short field toys. Gentle aerobatics is another plus.

Any advice for an aspiring Hatz builder or owner? Not a pilot yet...
@DanasWings Жыл бұрын
If you have the opportunity to learn to fly in a tailwheel plane, do it; it'll be closer to a Hatz than a more modern nosewheel plane. Lots of good info on the biplane forum (biplaneforum.com), the homebuilt airplanes forum (www.homebuiltairplanes.com) and the Hatz Association (www.hatzbiplane.com/phpBB/index.php). Hatzes periodically show up for sale on barnstormers.com.

Great vantage point for camera view(s). Each summer use to camp in Norway, ME. Now in central Texas, not so many trees, and am missing the east coast region. That ( John ) Hatz CB-1 design sparked intest in viewing video, as a Hatz is on my bucket list of " To do's". I appreciate the video.

I always loved passing by Marcy Field. The Ausable River East Branch close by, and the incredible views! And it was such a surprise the first time I saw it, after passing through Jay and Keene, down past Roaring Brook Falls and Chapel Pond and their adjacent mountains, to hit this lovely meadow. What a beautiful place to be, at least in summer.

Actually, though it seems counter intuitive, the bending stress is the same if you support it in the middle or both outer ends (as it is when it's up). No sign of it bending.
