i have noticed that, i always do my safety stop at 6-5 m, by the end of it, im already at surface. no matter how many times i dump air out of my bcd or whatever, its always like that. no matter where i am or what gear i use, beach, middle of the sea, caves (rental), vacation destination (rental), its all the same. i think it has to do with my body. not 100% of the times but, more often.

I was impressed to see the horizontal finger signals for the numbers 6 through 9. As a former naval aviator these were common hand signals for us to use pilot to pilot between aircraft in formation. I’ve tried to impress this simple one handed way to signal the numbers 1 through 9 to other divers and they all seem confused. Hopefully this will catch on as more standard in time. Understanding standard hand signals to communicate intentions, etc. is, IMHO, critical to safe diving.
@flowstatedivers2 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing! It's interesting to see these signals are common in your field too. They’re considered essential in technical diving, though they’re less common in recreational diving.

I was just in Tulum Cenote diving. The DM was a cave dive instructor. She was always talking about shallow breathing and I just didn't understand the technique. Thanks for clarification!

I just got back from Tulum doing the standard Cenote dives. My weight distribution and trim were all messed up. It's not something I really had to worry about in open water. At least not to the level needed for the overhead environment. These videos are great!

Definitely best instructional dive videos on KZbin! Perfectly filmed, explained and you address many of the fundamentals which even experienced divers often struggle with because the instructors never put enough focus on during the courses. I'm always happy when I see you published a new video. I think many would find useful if you gave tips on clipping long hose regulator, SPG and stage cylinder to D-rings. You would spare many divers of frustration.

To adjust the fitting of my backplate should I wear my drysuit or is ok doing it wearing a t-shirt?
@flowstatedivers14 күн бұрын
Depending on how thick of an undergarment you will be using under your drysuit. If you have something like a simple t-shirt you can adjust without otherwise it's beneficial to kit up beforehand

Hi! I have a question, maybe you could shed some light please. Why dont you change back to breathing from main regulator after reopening the right valve? You only unclip it off the d-ring. There is no real life scenario where you would shut off your left valve while breathing from your backup regulator as this means your primary has already failed, leaving you with no gas.

We don't use bungee on the backup lights, the one we use on the primary should either be 6 but preferably 8mm thick.

The challenge is we need someone to advertise this system towards every diving agency… two handed signals shouldn’t be invented on its first space. It is naive to assume rec divers don’t need one hand signal as any OW could sign themselves up for a night dive where light is essential. However once you memorise these one handed signals you still have to check these signals with a new buddy before each dive (which destroys the beauty of diving that it overrides language barriers and connect people together from different cultures) and you sometimes get dubbed by people for using or not using one handed signals.

I prefer to cut the loose end of the cable strap with a sharp knife (my leatherman). The advantage - in contrast to cutting tools like scissors or diagonal pliers/wire cutter - is the shape of the cutting surface. The knife does not squeeze the material and you get a clean, smooth flat surface without jags, spikes and sharp edges. I do it this way since I pulled a rip into my semi-dry neoprene. :-)

Great video, but I have one disagreement in the way you use one of the signals. And that is when using the pinky (little finger) as the deco signal. Pinky is/can be used to show both the NDL remaining and Deco stop requirements. Pinky pointing upwards (knuckles *inwards/towards diver - not buddy, as for numbers 1-5) implies one can ascend directly to the surface, and if after a tap on opposite wrist (DC) it is followed up by numbers, would imply "X"mins of NDL remaining. (*it is important for knuckles to be inwards, or it could look like the number one in low-vis/from a distance.) Pinky pointing horizontally (knuckles outwards, as for numbers 6-9) implies there is a ceiling and when followed up by numbers, would imply "X"mins of deco stop time. Not saying your way is wrong, just that where we dive there is different use case for the pinky. 😊 Keep up the portfolio of amazing instructional videos you are creating. The once really annoying "AI voice is starting to grow on me. Mainly because the information behind it is exemplary. I have no doubt I'll be diving with you at some point in the future. I'm slowly working my way through the Canaries (Gran Canaria next month) and just haven't got to Tenerife yet.
