Excellent in depth review. With what Ive seen so far I think it would work with several scans combined, but would you say this scanner and software would be capable of scanning an E34 with a gutted interior in order to build a roll cage?

Do you have any extra support for the front of the eccentric shaft? 13Bs don't like high shear loads on the front pulley and will eat up the front bearing very fast. There are a couple solutions out there though from people that have supercharged them

It’s incredible to see how much the world-and especially the automotive enthusiast community-has transformed. I grew up in an era when affordable performance parts were limited to just a few cars and engines, and having the right tools was crucial. Today, those tools have become accessible not only to major manufacturers but also to small businesses and even hobbyists. Now, anyone with the passion and the right equipment can fabricate custom, one-of-a-kind parts, making it truly amazing to watch this evolution unfold.

Stumbled on your latest vid. andthought it was so cool that I had to go back to the beginning and review the whole series. Not sure where you get the time to do all of this or where you developed all of these engineering/tech skills but it’s pretty amazing. As far as rotary engine building try and look up Carlos Lopez-phenomenal attention to detail and knowledge. And last I’m based in Japan interact quite a bit with a couple notable rotary shops here if you need anything- Cheers

How are you cleaning your scans and make it ready for CAD? Im eyeballing Geomagic Warp Essentials. Are there any cheaper ways to get this done in timely manners?
@CouchBuilt3 күн бұрын
I don’t do anything with the scans really. Just import them to Fusion and use mesh section sketches to build the base references to model off of.

One thing that could bring you more views, is to add the i8 in the thumbnail, because most people won't realise until reading the whole title what the video is about. And i8 is a very recognizable car so naturily more people will click

I'm rather concerned by the lack of clearance between the downpipe and the transmission case; what are your plans for insulation? In-industry, we traditionally do a multi-layer metal heatshield with air gaps on both sides, but obviously you don't have enough room for that. Maybe it's just an optical illusion from the combination of shadows and the footage being slightly-out-of-focus, but it looks like you hardly even have clearance to wrap the pipe. When designing the pipe, did you consider locally ovalizing the cross-section between the v-band and the O2 sensor to gain more clearance? I imagine it would be a lot easier to achieve that with a 3D-printed part vs. if you had to try to fabricate it out of round tubing.
@CouchBuilt4 күн бұрын
It’ll have an inconel heat shield. It’s also not rotated to its correct position.

Just my $0.02, consider changing trans mount design to keep a bracket attached to the trans case, those aluminum threaded holes love to strip if you have a lot of install/reinstall going on as you get everything finalized and situated.
@CouchBuilt4 күн бұрын
The mount doesn’t need to come on/off for much. It could probably stay where it is through final assy. I usually install studs in aluminum stuff that needs regular service.

Just found this build and excited to see how it goes. Mechanically the engine mount you made will likely deform the holes in the frame rail over time. Based on how neat your welding is I'm surprised you didn't replicate the original system tbh.

This subframe isn’t going in the car, I’m only using it for mockup. Worst case the plate gets welded on the real subframe.
