I got my 2022 CEED SW PHEV just over a week ago, and when I tried this I made a "strange" discovery: If I keep my foot still on the accelerator this method works, but if I activate the cruise control (maintaining the exact same speed, for example 90 km/h), the needle moves from the left side of "ECO" to the right side, and the battery doesn't get charged. If I deactivate the cruise control again (holding my foot still on the accelerator at 90 km/h) it goes back to charging again. Does anyone know why?

You forgot to time it? Manufacturers manual says 9.5s but I can't believe that is accurate, it goes faster

Brought mine last Saturday. Absolutely love it. Got it second hand at a good price with only 22k miles on it. Runs like a dream. Only drawback is there's a free to use 7kwh charger at my local shop, but the Niro only charges at 3.6kwh. Trying to get a home charger soon. Definitely the best car I've ever owned however 👌

If you are finding that the back camera is dirty, then you can buy the CamWipe, which is absolutely amazing.

Thanks, very informative. What happens if you drain the petrol tank to zero. Can you still drive on the battery until it's also drained?

Jeg har fået lagt folie på at et lokalt firma. Ville gerne anbefale dem, men faktisk er jeg ikke særligt imponeret over det de har lavet. Der er flere firmaer i Odense, hvor du helt sikkert kan få det lavet :)

Volkswagen Travel Assist offers very, very good driving assistance. It is said to be much better than the Tesas autopilot. Have you been able to test it yet?

Yes, I have tested it, and it works great. I will make a video soon, real life have been really busy, and I had a major problem with the car ;)

In general no, but if you really need to drive EV mode, it can be used for charging. I hardly ever did it :)

Hi Chris, do you have any reccomendation how to get permition for an EV charger on your parking place. Many ppl want to buy an EV but they living in appartments and have a parking place outside, but how to get the wire from my EL board to the parking? Is there in Denmark any rule, when you want to buy an EV, the kommune should help you with charging from your el account? I try to ask everywhere... no answers. Prices at Clever and E.On is killing me, 6kr/kW, some times I even think of a diesel car instead of green :( Thx

Sorry, i have been away for some time. There are no rules in Denmark, that the city should help with that. There are rules when establishing new parking slots, where there must be chargers if the exceed a certain size. Beside that, no rules

If the battery is empty, that is to say if the number of EV km = 0, the Niro PHEV drives as a HEV model, except that the PHEV is 85 kg heavier and the E-engine is 60HP strong compared to 44 HP in the HEV type. The battery management system prevents the battery from running out completely. In model 2020, the % of the battery is also displayed, and that states 18% if the number of EV km is 0. I can then charge about 8.3 KWh and then it says that 58 km EV are available.

Maybe, but while ev is fast from 0-50/60, it gets slower after that. So it would be higher that this. But I never feel any lack of power, even in EV mode, since this car is most about comfort, and not so much about sport :)

I’m not surprised at the low EV range as u are going too fast, 70 mph. 60 mph is fast/safe enough and drastically more efficient. At 70 mph u “save” 10 seconds per mile at a high energy cost; very costly. Same applies when using the petrol engine. Slow down for less expenses per mile. Thanks

Well, while you are right, the speed limit is actually 81 mph on this road. Driving to slow, could be a risk, since peoble don´t expect that :)

Sorry, can´t help on that. I am not a mechanic, just a normal guy. To be honest, I dont think it´s possible, and if, the cost would be to high.

I am confused. It seems like all the videos I watch on hybrid vs plug in say that the Plug in cars can not charge the battery from the ICE motor. Is the Kia different in some way. I have seen the new Outlander has two buttons, one for charging while driving and one for stopping the use of battery power. The outlander is a plug in vehicle.

The Niro does not have a dedicated charge button. But that doesn´t mean it can´t be charged by the petrol engine. Set it in sports mode, and dont drive to fast, and the battery will charge as an exampel. But be aware, that charging the car with the enginge is not efficient, and the cost is rather high.

@@CACars Do you have any data comparing the 20 -30% efficiency to the rear wheels of an ICE system compared to ICE used to drive a generator to charge the battery. I am interested in economics of the two systems to generate power to the rear wheels. Of course when the battery is fully charge the PHEV wins, but once that battery has run down what does the economic model look like based on efficiency to the rear wheels.

I want to get this car as my first car. Where i live its comes with 1.2 87 hp and it can reach 200 km/h !! One quastion is the sound systeme quality is good ?? Cuz im fan of music and all of that + how is the clutch is it good ?

Good review, thanks. We are in the UK, ordering one of these for March 2020 delivery, much better than waiting at least 12 months for the Niro which is crazy, why the difference in lead time I have no idea.

Hi - is it possible to provide some data of a HEV mode at 80-90 km/hr over about 140km journey starting with a full charge at the beginning of the journey. I expect about 15% better, but I'd like some raw facts to help me decide to buy or not. Thanks in advance (hi from Jutland)

I jumped the queue and I got the last of the old shape delivered yesterday, as I wasn’t that bothered about the facelift model, it was a cancelled order so I had to make a very quick decision. Cheers Jerry

how many mpg did you have on highway while you were using the hybrid mode? Some says there's a lot of mpg difference when you drive a Niro hybrid and a Niro phev with hybrid mode on due to extra weight of battery and parts

I just took a longer trip to Germany. Had to go HEV mode only on the way back. MPG (US) was around 42 at 95% motorway speed 110-130 km/h. Because of the more weight due to the bigger battery, consumption will be slightly higher on the PHEV in HEV mode. But not alot, it´s not that big af difference :)

We had the original Soul EV and loved it. Great size inside with a compact exterior. We only changed because of its short range. Personally I think you should keep the Niro for another 6 months or so and see whats available. So many EVs coming and its not certain the demand is there for all of them yet so some may be available to buy without a long wait, who knows.

Besides the ID 3, that will be late 2020, there are no EV comming in the size and price range I look at. So my choise is between the e-Niro or the Model 3. I still haven´t dediced in wich, but have placed an order for a e-niro :)

While I do like the look of it, most peoble don´t. So resell price here in Denmark would suffor. Most important is the prise. The Soul is just as expensive as the Niro in DK, and the car is just not worth it. So I won´t go for a Soul my self.

Hi Chris. Great video. Very informative. I love my 2019 niro phev but mis stop and go cruise control. My Fuel economy is fantastic, equivalent to 172 miles per gallon. Unbelievable. Once again thank you for information. Bob (from Ireland).
