Got the car - My Kia Niro PHEV

I got the car, and drove it for a few days. So I talk abit about consumption, and also about some of the cons about this car.

The reason for this gas consumption is that: it is winter in your country, the heater works with the gas engine running all the time.

The gas engine is not running all the time to produce heat. It stops when i reaches the heat needed, and then turn on if neede. While it runs, it charges the battery, wich is nice.

The front lights look really cool compared to the regular Niro. I also like the upgraded center cluster. Does it have room for a spare tire in the back like the regular Niro?

Agree. There are no space for spare. In the first video I made about the PHEV, I open the floor. The extra battery are placed under the boot floor. So just a repair kit I am afraid.

Yes, it´s a nice car. To bad you have to wait, but Kia is not making enough of them. Normal delivery time in Denmark is 3-4 months at the moment.

Regarding the missing power socket I saw the same in a German and a Czech car so it is apparently not in the cars for the european market. Too bad because that is really a cool feature that is special for this car.

Yes, think so too. Dealers haven´t come back on that, guess I will have to live without :)

Due to a questionable sales policy in Italy it is not possible to have this beautiful color as well as the heated and ventilated seats, the sunroof, the front parking sensors mounted directly by Kia. It's a shame.

Yes, that is a shame. The ventilated seats are a must in Italy I think. But we can´t have those in Denmark either.

Question: If you charge the Niro overnight...can you save the EV power for driving later on in the day instead of using it up right away? I would imagine you can turn off the EV mode and go to Hybrid mode...and then use it later?

You have the choise between EV og HEV driving. Normally it will "save" the battery. But in a few cases on the motorway, when the weather was really bad, it used some of the battery even in HEV mode.

Question. If you turn on the heater does the engine run continuously or just for a bit until the coolant gets warm?

It´s turned on, as long as needed to warm up the cabin. I took it on a drive today, and made a video. I´ll upload it, as soon as possible. Think the consumption will be around2l/100 km for heating only.

i dont know why but i cant get a kia niro phev with a sun roof, how much was yours?

In Denmark the prise is around 1500$ for the sunroof.

I go a wallbox now. You can use a regular plug, if your installation is good enough. But I wanna be safe and not sorry ;)

It's a plug in hybrid that will only get about 30 mile on electric, no surprises.

The EV range is actually class leading, and I don´t think you will get much more range, since the battery pack would be to heavy. Phev´s are the compromise between ICE and EV, and should be looked on as such :)

It depends on your driving needs. If you have alot of small trips, I think it´s worth it. If your need is mostly long distance, then maybe not. In Denmark both models have the same price, so it´s an easy choise. But that´s becaurse of our crazy taxation system. The Phev has a sligthly better performance, but also smaller boot space under the bootfloor.

Well I do both long and short trips they are almost equal. I live in Canada and I'm waiting for the phev to come out here. Its still not out yet. The government will give about $2000-3000 rebate on this electric vehicle. But I am not sure if I should wait or just get the hybrid now ?

CAC my goal was to try and never have to use gas as much as possible . or gas price out here average $1.30 a litter sometime it goes up to 1.50

List price in Denmark for the one I got with the options is around 56.000$. Personally I just love driving EV, so if you have enough short trips, I think it´s worth it. I guess on longer trips fuel economy will be abit better on the normal hybrid. Total after almost 1500 km my average fuelconsumptions is 3,8L/100km or 60 mpg. But I will make a video about that, hopefully before x-mas.
