A JW mom told me that kids don't need to celebrate birthday and Christmas, they still get presents on other occasions. I was thinking 'wow, what kind of mom is that, have you ever asked your kids opinion? ' i feel bad for her kids.

Dangerous organization indeed. My younger sister needed a blood transfusion the day she was born and my parents refused. The hospital acted immediately, got a judge to remove my parent's right to her, and rushed her to a different hospital all without my parents knowing. That hospital saved her life and I hold a grudge against my parents to this day for it 40yrs later.

Disassociation leads to shunning most of the time. And jw celebrities do get special treatment. Serena Williams can participate in her child's Christmas pageant very publicly but a regular witness would be disfellowshipped for celebrating Christmas privately with their family. My theory is that 1) celebrity jws donate a lot of money to the watchtower organization and 2) the watchtower tries to avoid the negative publicity that would come with disfellowshipping the celebrity. We know Rebecca Vardy and Luke Evans have shown a lot of light on the jw organization in their esposés.

Such a nonsense, they worship the governing body! They call it jehovah, but its only the will of the governing body!
@robynhouse8166Күн бұрын
This is such a sad thing to say. The JW group is a cult. To say it's not is to invalidate thousands of people who have suffered and even died from the undue influence of the governing body, which acts like a composite personality who is revered as the ultimate authority.

Jehovah's witnesses are a cult, they obey men in new york called the governing body. This is how much power and control these men have over the members, if they told all the members to color their hair pink because its biblical the members will do it without questioning anything!

3 of my Jehovah's witnesses friends took their lives. Why? Because they were shunned by their family. Stephens lett one of the cult leaders. He shunned yis own nephew, who also took his own life. Make no mistake, jws cruelly shun people often To the point of them unaliving. This is absolutely a deadly high control group. A cult. There may be an exception here an there but shunning is the rule. A deadly rule. Stop mandatory shunning!

And now the governing body now say obey us even if it doesn’t make sense. The watchtower is a business they have free labors they build Kingdom Halls then sells them off. The governing body/ watchtower are billionaires.

Speaking from perspective of someone who was a jw...its a destructive cult because of the 20k cases of unreported CSA. Then if the abused speak up they are shunned by their family and congregation. Its a rule to not make the organization look bad. I was surrounded by ped0philes growing up and i had know idea.

He is wrong about his description of disassociation vs disfellowshipped. I was raised in this powerfully destructive organization aka cult, and my mother was a baptized member for 50 years until her death which was caused largely by her refusal of a blood transfusion when she hemorraged during a day surgery. She was disassociated in the late 70s bc she was dating an old high school boyfriend after my parents split and the Elders rode by our house and saw his car there (they were stalking her and you are not allowed to date worldy people amd you also must be supervised on any dates, yep even adults) She showed remorse and cut off the relationship so she wasn't disfellowshipped but instead was disassociated for 6 months. We were completely shunned as if we did not exist or we smelled bad or something, along with our mother. She still made us go to meetings 3 days a week but we were shunned and were not allowed to speak to or look at anyone. I was 9 and my sister was 7. Disassociation is not use as aa way to keep in touch with family. They frown upon relationships with worldy or unbaptized people but as long as that family isnt disfellowshipped or disassociated ypu can absolutely have contact with them.

As a born-in to the JW cult, spent 40ys in it, serving as an "elder" over a decade (JW label for a priest/clergyman) and currently an exJW activist, I feel a ned to correct few: 1. Russell (a 1st spiritual leader of the movement called Bible students and the 2nd president of the Watchtower) was not a totalitarian cult leader. He was just a publisher of christian-like literature, selling it and it created a community of truly independent congregations and individuals, majority of them members of different denominations. All Watchtower subscribers and readers had absolutely freedom to believe what they want and nobody controlled it or punish it. So in organisational sense, not concerning their dogmas, they were kind of similar to the 1st century christian congregations. Only and than when Rutherford took the wheel, he created the totalitarian cult ticking all definitions of a cult. It did not ended with his death. Knorr continued the same. Just after Knorr the Governing body came to the scene. They continue the course of absolutistic leadership. Only they can create and cancel dogmas, they control the obedience and they punish it in severe ways. The main point I disagree is: The fact that the leadership is just one or a handful of "self-appointed" individuals does not change the definition of a destructive, controlling and punishing totalitarian cult. JWs are one and many countries like Norway, Spain, Australia, New Zeland, and many in the process, confirm after independent investigations and hearing thousands of victims (child molesting, blood, shunning etc..) that it is a correct definition applied. Besides a little differences Rick has written a briliant book. Anyone who is, was personally in or has a dear one close to any cult, this is a must to read.
