What kills me is that not only has this indie studio found a way to make a better looking voxel game run on a potato and they are actively working on improving performance. WTF Minecraft?! Also, I like modding games, but modded Minecraft is a nightmare. I don't think Vintage Story even needs mods (except maybe Better Firepits).

Well, lets be fair, every new COD is basically treated as a 'fresh new start' and a reset, a COD can be a complete stinker and the next one can be the best selling yet.

I find really interesting how I've beaten thousands of games on the highest difficulty, but every time I start a new world in Minecraft I just can't reach the End... I know how to do it but I think it's literal trauma as a child that prevents me from beating the game.

This is interesting though I will admit that while watching it I am left going 'Why wouldn't I just play Vintage Story instead?' Though I think that is more just indicative on my feelings about Minecraft in general. The more I think about it the more I realize that Minecraft itself just isn't what I want it to be and while I can make it that way with mods I've just drifted towards a different game that is what I want at its base. On thinking about it I'm not sure how I'd fix Minecraft and my issues with it in a way that wouldn't just result in my playing Vintage Story instead. Minecraft has always been weird for me. A thing that I always wanted to like more than I actually liked it.

My personal solution was buffing iron tools and adding copper tools as a tier between stone and iron, and making iron only mineable with a copper pickaxe or higher

I also think buffing wood tools to have 3 digging speed would give them a small bit of usability, right now at 2 speed its barely any faster than mining with nothing

The problem with playing Minecraft 'effeciently' and correctly, aligning to an RPG design is it doesn't work. Majority of players actually play Minecraft to BUILD, not fight mobs, loot structures, or even hoard precious items. You can do all those, but it's like trying to get a 3D build to work in Terraria-it's just not what the game is made for. It's a sanbox game, people, for the nth time. I'm not discrediting RPG fans for having opinions about Minecraft but some get too delusional to the point of seeing Minecraft as a whole different game with a different genre, often grasping at straws drawing parallels to Terraria all the time.

The two cycles of AAA developers atm: >Big company wants to make money >Releases garbage game >People don't like it but buy it anyway for some reason or >Big company wants to make money >Releases garbage game >People hate it and don't buy it >"What do you mean you don't like half baked games that needed at least another year in the oven?????" The main problem is share holders. If you look at good games, they're produced by people that are either under no pressure, or need to make the game good, because otherwise they could go bankrupt. This is basically the reason that Valve has such a good reputation, they need to make good games, because otherwise they might risk shutting down, and every good indie game is also made by somebody who's probably still in high school and have nobody pushing them to release the game. TLDR: Shareholders = bad, keep your company private👍

17:00 i dont think it "created" that issue, it just emphasizes it more. It was already annoying to move villagers for villager farms and stuff, now you have to do it more, and it's as ass as it has always been. 18:40 here i'll add that if we get a look at old mobs with that logic, then we can safely say that mojang approves of slaughter of farm animals and spiders, which is.... not good either? 21:10 that literally was an issue in terraria too before they changed it. Also yes, your proposal is like 80% Terraria requirements and the results are the same. It is literally identical. Villagers also need a way to express issues with their houses or smth like in terraria in those cases. And also 5x5? Naturally generated villages barely contain anything more than 3x3... 26:10 no the boat thing is just annoying. I dont agree with skeleton take either, infighting is fun to look at, so dropping it all the way down to 0% for hardcore is kinda mean. Maybe 10%? Or maybe they have to hit each other like multiple times, +1 for every difficulty except easy or smth?

My problem with minecraft is that i either have to go to the end, beat the dragon, get elytra, set up a bunch of stuff OR endure the slog of grinding bazillion stacks of even the simplest materials like wood or stone to build anything whatsoever in survival. Like idk, maybe it's coz Terraria is 2D, but it legit has more fun and engaging building than Minecraft to me. Just coz i dont have to grind million bazillion materials and even when i need materials they're not that sluggish to get. Creative is not an option coz then there's like no reason to build. In survival you can, idk, put all your chests in the building or smth, bed, make a farm to actually use it, an so on.

You start the video, talking about how open endedness is the prime goal of minecraft. Then you spend the rest of the video talking about survival elements. You agreed, minecrafts draw is it's open endedness. Some players styles would class hard with a harsh survival heavy gameplay. This is why survival is a part of minecraft, and not the key focus. Obviously you have your opinions, but starting the video showing you know that minecraft is about being open ended, then focusing on survival gameplay elements feels dishonest.
@TheGeekFactor
@TheGeekFactor 2 күн бұрын
It might seem that way until you consider I prefaced the entire point about survival aspects by saying it’s an entirely SUBJECTIVE point and not at all my main hook. The later points about mod support, community, and performance are my “objective” points as to why vintage story is better. It is also worth nothing that vintage story is just as open ended and just as much of a sandbox game as Minecraft and does many things BETTER such as having world edit and more customizable world generation all without mods. I think there is a HUGE misconception that Minecraft- and sandbox games in general- need to be games for EVERYONE. That is to say, they should cater to a wide range of players as to maximize how many people can enjoy it. I think this is silly and wrong. Minecraft is not for everyone and it shouldn’t be. Vintage story is not for everyone and it shouldn’t be. In order for a game to be for “everyone” it actually needs to be a game engine. Roblox, Fortnite, and even Minecraft to a much lesser extent, all attempt to accomplish this. I am not of the opinion that a sandbox game should be judged by how big of a tent it pitches, but rather how well it caters to the people in its tent. In that sense, Vintage Story does a better job catering to the people in its tent than Minecraft.

I would say dont worry about comparing it to Minecraft as the dev team who developed Vintage story are also the devs who developed the minecraft mod TerraFirmaCraft. the reason they moved to making a full game was due to how limited minecraft felt for what they were wanting to do

If you’re thinking of fixing Minecraft, this is terrible. Far too complicated for any new player to figure out how to do anything. But as like a fun server thing, it’s pretty cool. But if this were to be considered the perfect Minecraft, it would need to be simple to understand for new players. Part of Minecraft’s success lies within its simplicity: It’s easy to pick up and understand. Fixing progression would need to have the same mindset. I like some of these ideas, but even with a recipe book 5 year old me isn’t gonna know what the heck to do with a forge. Which might be a sign of bad design.
@TheGeekFactor

Well. This video was never meant to “fix” Minecraft. I’m simply fixing MY personal issues with it. This obviously isn’t for new players or for everyone. That’s the beauty of Minecraft; you can make it whatever you like.

@TukoIsCool 2 күн бұрын
@ thanks for the response, I appreciate it. Sorry if the comment came across a little harsh, I really liked some of your ideas here. The whole upgrading hearts thing and some of your ideas for slowing crafting down for the early stages. And yes you’re absolutely right, Minecraft is for everyone, part of what makes fixing Minecraft videos so tricky is the fact that everyone comes across these things differently because the game is so open. I took a look at your ideas for crafting and thought, if I wasn’t being told this, would I be able to figure it out? I came to the conclusion that no equals bad design, I’m wrong it equals potential for good design. I think what the crafting system needs is a bit of a rework in simplicity and understanding, the concepts that you have laid out are really good. But who’s gonna figure out how to build a health potion or a sturdy stick. Though I suppose a recipe book of some kind could pretty much fix the problem, maybe a little cheaply like a bandaid but enough, I mean, that’s what modern Minecraft did to fix its problem with crafting. I think that potions, are a cool idea. As being the only way to heal; it forces players to prepare for journeys and spelunking trips. But the fact that these flowers still need to be scavenged, and as far as I know, can’t be actually grown means that even high-level players if they want to survive, they have to go around in the woods and try to find some dandelions. Also, I think the recipe for a sturdy stick should be simpler, it just seems to gate keep players through the tedium of growing wheat, the recipe should really just simply be three or more sticks. Therefore, it’s still costly and the player has to think about it but they don’t have to wait around for wheat to grow cause that’s not fun, even with bonemeal it’s just tedious. It also makes mud pretty much useless, because I believe that every item should have multiple uses and mud is just kind only used for reinforcing sticks, it’s a good use because you use sticks a lot but unless mud’s a little bit more fundamental to the game, like with some mud armor or somethin I think it should be thrown out. And that brings up the concept of food, because food isn’t used to heal, it only serves as a threat to the player and doesn’t actually make them think about what they’re eating. So what if? And get this, what if food gave you armour?? When you’re full, at least for the first few hunger points you get some armour which whittle away by half a armour point as your hunger goes down. Eating better food gets you better armour, eating cake would get you maybe two or three armour points, eating steak maybe one and a half, all the way down to the lowest quality food giving you a half and rotten flesh gives you nothing. The better the food the longer and more armour you have, the worst of food the less armour you have and less you have it. Encouraging players to think about what they eat for those bonuses. The idea is very similar to the whole regeneration speed thing already in Minecraft. If you eat steak, you regenerate faster than if you eat bread. Yes it does make the game a little easier, and if you’re against that, I totally get it. Those are just some ideas I got. Take them as you will.

Generally a very cool concept. It’s not really for me but I appreciate the effort put into it. Btw, I was gonna “umm actually” your bronzes but I guess bismuth bronze is technically misnamed in real life and made from brass. Though true bronzes shouldn’t have zinc in the recipe lest it becomes a brass. That being said, I think the bronzes should have distinguished names such as Bronze and Brass versus Tin Bronze and Bismuth Bronze. You could go with Bismuth Brass too I guess but I just found the original alloys sounding clunky and/or confusing
