Foster and Partners did not design the WTC, but they did design 425 Park, many famous buildings across the world, and a lot of work for Apple, ranging from the most iconic Apple stores around the world to the Apple HQ in Cupertino. Norman Foster was Steve Jobs' favorite architect.

I think that empty lot shown at the end will be a joint project between 2 big name developers (who ostensibly are doing fine in NY currently). One could be Rudin off the top of my head. I could be wrong on this too but if I recall correctly the lot is actually two separate adjoining properties and they are to be merged so to speak in the joint project.

this, 175 park avenue and wtc 2 will be a sight to see
@danielwalker66532 күн бұрын
The black building behind this is part of the 350 dev. Look how far to the West the core is in the renderings. That's because the core will be mostly within the footprint of Rudin's black building to the rear. Rudin and Vornado came together with Citadel to make 350 possible. You underestimate the size of this development; the lower trading floors will be *big* (50K+ sf?). The only buildings on the block (bound by 52nd, Park, 51st, Madison) that aren't part of the project are the prewar buildings fronting Madison Ave.
@scraperinfo2 күн бұрын
You are absolutely right, yes I definitely was underestimating the size. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I will definitely address it in my next update video!

The renderings look like the Park Avenue viaduct (elevated roadway around Grand Central) is removed. That seems like a bad idea to ruin Park Avenue.

Just let that sink in...the Original Hotel looked way better than that sad plain glass conversation. It reminds me of that ugly yellow building in Las Vegas. Maximum efficiency over soul and character. I'm glad there's something better proposed, but that fact I just stated gives me dread for the future. Too bad it's so close to Chrysler though, I'm sure zoning and bedrock probably limits what sites they could choose. Just a thought.

Another grotesque monster despite the fact that the office vacancy rate in NYC topped out at 18.1% in the first quarter of 2024. NYC doesn't need this visual abortion. It should never get built.

@mark34649 күн бұрын
@ I’m thinking along the lines of building behind or into them. Or at least retain their facades. As I look at the island as a whole I see countless areas that could have density built. But say we tear it all down and build housing. Do you think there’s not going to be housing shortages in the future? It’s like adding extra lanes on a highway to relieve congestion. It’s temporary
@scraperinfo9 күн бұрын
@@mark3464 why build in other areas where we currently have extremely low density residential buildings right in the center of manhattan. To me it makes no sense to keep them there. One avenue over is time square and the high rises of midtown, they seem so out of place.

I must correct you....."skycrapers" will NOT be supported by a concrete platform. They will have their own foundation (via pile driving) connected to bedrock and will rise "through" and/or around the platform. For skyscrapers that might rise above the actual tracks, pile driving will take place between the various sets of tracks as the foundation/pilings must be connected to bedrock.

"The largest building to be demolished - I mean, other than the Twin Towers." What the fuc?! The Twin Towers were attacked by terrorists and destroyed... oh... also KILLING AROUND 3500 PEOPLE. In the future, you can stop at "the largest building to be demolished." No need to qualify it... what happened to the Twin Towers wasn't the same thing. I can assure you.

I'm glad they're destroying this smaller "modern" building rather than the old historical tenements, they should keep doing this, but the area next to the Chrysler Building is honestly a bad spot to put it, although they could put it somewhere else and demolish a smaller modern building and restore the original facade of this building whilst not blocking the views of the Chrysler Building.
@brianturner1784Ай бұрын
Beautiful tower, but should shift to maintain view corridors to the Chrysler. Sadly we don't have view corridor code like in London. We do have them for the harlem/east rivers though apparently, go figure lol. Love the structural columns at the base btw
