Will be happy to see the whole project finished and the rail yard covered. Feel a bit bad for those who will eventually lose their unobstructed view of the river.

I must correct you....."skycrapers" will NOT be supported by a concrete platform. They will have their own foundation (via pile driving) connected to bedrock and will rise "through" and/or around the platform. For skyscrapers that might rise above the actual tracks, pile driving will take place between the various sets of tracks as the foundation/pilings must be connected to bedrock.

If we want to address the housing shortage, it has to go!

@ no it doesn’t. You can still add tons of density

@ I’m thinking along the lines of building behind or into them. Or at least retain their facades. As I look at the island as a whole I see countless areas that could have density built. But say we tear it all down and build housing. Do you think there’s not going to be housing shortages in the future? It’s like adding extra lanes on a highway to relieve congestion. It’s temporary

@@mark3464 why build in other areas where we currently have extremely low density residential buildings right in the center of manhattan. To me it makes no sense to keep them there. One avenue over is time square and the high rises of midtown, they seem so out of place.
