Thanks for sharing, your story's given me some hope and inspiration, going to continue with physio exercises and hope for some improvement, is the recovery dependant on age of the person? Enjoyed watching some great info there👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Hi John, normally yes age is a factor, the older we are the longer things take to heal. However we are usually less likley to push too hard too soon so generall don't relapse like some younger eager beavers might. The main thing though is healing is possible no matter the age. Any more questions feel free to ask away ;)

Hi @BashBackPain - I already had surgery on l5s1 herniation on Nov 2023. Same l5s1 has reherniated and am in a lot of pain. Bedrest has helped over the last 2 weeks but the minute I walk around it hurts. Am on a lot of pain meds and pregabalin- can I start the exercises now when I’m in pain?
@bashbackpain
@bashbackpain 5 күн бұрын
Hi there, yes you can start with basic movements such as abdominal bracing, dead bug, arms only bird dog, hip extension and others that do not cause pain when you do them - you can find those and others here kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2K1oq2QpsubbMk and here kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHqyZKlsgaaki8k obviously you do not want to overdo it but movement will encourage blood flow to the area which is necesssary for healing. I know walking is painful for you but even if you can mange 1 to 2 mins at a time it is a start and if you can do maybe 10 of those mini sets a day that is a good starting point. Feel free to book a call if you wish to discuss further :) calendly.com/colincall/45min

Thanks for the content very helpful. I have L5S1 herniation on the S1 nerve. I’m at work 8-6pm and with kids hard to find time to do these exercises. Can I do them in the morning like 630am? I’ve read mixed reviews that you shouldn’t exercise in the AM.
@bashbackpain
@bashbackpain 20 күн бұрын
Hi there, it would be less than optimal to exercise in the am due to the disc being at is fullest in size and the bodys nervous system not being fully awake. Without knowing the kids ages or your job there are a couple of work around. An empty room at work where you can do 15 to 20 mins of exercise at lunch time. Have the kids join in your exercise routine and make it a fun game for them. I often utilise this technique but it does depend how old the kids are. Only really need 20 mins a day to make a difference or even 2 X 15 min blocks, you will be surprised at the gains you could make. Any more questions feel free to reach out ;)

Do most bad disc bulges usually come with bad sciatica leg pain? I passed the usual knee reflex test, straight leg raise test. No loss of muscle or strength. I had very mild hip pain on and off that lasted a few seconds some days. I still have mild tingling toes on my right foot on and off and my left calf muscle does feel a little tight or a weird sensation sometimes. I never had bad sciatica leg pain, so my physio thinks it's just very mild disc bulge. I'm at 6 months post injury. Doing physio 4 months but it seems slow work to get rid of the toe tingling. Back pain is more centralised now and only about 2/10. Would doing more nerve glides help as long as no pain happens?
@bashbackpain
@bashbackpain 26 күн бұрын
In your case it is something i would consider using yes. You could even look at some tissue release type modalities such as ART (active release technique) which would help to remove restrictions in the musculature surrounding the nerve. The nerve issues are always the last to go unfortunately :(
@Cj_Metal_Crafts

@bashbackpain Hi again. I recently started strength training 6 months after disc injury, like basic RDL, lunges, deadlifts. I noticed I get a very mild sciatica pain on the side of my knee. It's very mild and lasts a few seconds on and off throughout the day. Before this I had tingling on and off in the calf muscle. Could this be normal part of healing still and the exercises could be slightly aggrieved the sciatica nerve?

You need to watch and listen to the video all the way through and you can also watch this one, all the way through - kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJislWipn5yEkKs - you will see that i do not say "push with your stomach" i use the verbal cue to imagine you are pushing your belly button through into your back to allow the back to flatten. You are not constantly pushing your stomach into your back. That is why i talk about large belly breaths where you expand the stomach, something which would be impossible if you were consistently pushing with your stomach. @bashbackpain
@bashbackpain Ай бұрын
Hi Justin, you can start implementing these now as much as your pain allows. I know that may seem like a non answer but without knowing what stage of the injury you are at, the diagnosis and your level of pain/discomfort it is difficult to be more precise. I always to do things in a pain free range or up to a level 4 pain is acceptable as long as the thing you are doing does not make the pain worse. Hope that helps somewhat but feel free to ask more questions :)

@bashbackpain injury was on 27th of May. Pain started the next day morning when I woke up. I could still walk with the pain. It got better every day but still pain. Then it was only when I stand up the pain was very intense. Then I can walk without pain. I kept going to work and I didn't even need pain killer. However, after those initial 2-3 weeks I started to get worse again Then did MRI it was herniated disc l5S1. It was big but it was going down not huge pressure on nerve. I didn't lose strength, no numbness. However walking causes so much pain and calf muscle cramps. I rested for 2 weeks now in bed with very little walking every day . I'm lost now as doctor said don't do anything that makes pain. Which means I stay in bed all the time? I see people talk about mckenzie but it starts to hurt just being on tummy in 5 seconds. Today is my birthday and I feel more miserable than ever
