I was doing good after 2 weeks after injury. Then started to get worse. I don't understand why 😢

What is your injury and when was it diagnosed? it is normal in the acute stages to be incapacitated until that initial inflammation calms down. It is also a time where you can have set backs as the body is in the acute stage so it is easier for you to hurt yourself again. I need more info before i can advise :)

Hi there, no they would not be the best choice in the acute stages of this type of injury. When were you initially diagnosed?

At this stage you should be feeling much better but you will still have a few more months to go. Are you currently undergoing rehabilitation?

I didn’t have a specific event, but rather woke up in pain. If my lower back pain was due to a disc herniation, would a person typically know it at the time of herniation? Or, could it be a delayed pain reaction 24 hrs later?
@bashbackpain
@bashbackpain Ай бұрын
Hi there, not necessarily no. The herniation could occur without an actual pain response and indeed show up later :)

I have same issues, walking and being active reduces irritation and inflammation, tingling feeling will not go away until the nerve fully heals

Nerves take a long time to heal after being injured, months in most cases if not longer 12 months + Stick with the rehab plan and keep as active as you can within your pain threshold.

I’m 44 and have a sequestered disc in L5/S1. I started BJJ 9 months ago and want so badly to return. But then, it’s a gamble because I could lose all that healing progress.. I’m holding off surgery because I’m hoping some of the disc will get reabsorbed. If I get surgery, everything protruding will get sliced off.. Should I just get the surgery, though? What benefit will a partial reabsorption have?
@bashbackpain
@bashbackpain Ай бұрын
Hi there, there are risks with surgery, with all surgeries. You will still have to undergo the same rehab work you are doing now. There is also a high risk of re-injury/reherniation post surgery as yes they do remove the herniated material but the area still takes time to scar over and is vulnerable to reherniation. I would always get a second opinion as far as doctors are concerned. Are you currently in rehabilitation?
@Phantom-wt2nl
@Phantom-wt2nl Ай бұрын
@@bashbackpain Thank you, doctor. I’m electing not to do surgery because I don’t have pain/aches unless I do the ill-advised exercises on your channel. My ortho surgeon said I could return to BJJ but to take it slowly - however, he’s not knowledgeable about the sport so I’m cautious about his clearance. He said he won’t do surgery unless I’m in pain. With surgery, though, I could at least start the scarring over process and heal a lot faster. I guess I just have to be patient and wait for what could take year(s) for this to heal.. But do you know if a partial reabsorption of disc means that your body sucks in additional cushioning? Because then of course I’d want to avoid surgery. My ortho keeps saying nothing gets reabsorbed but I don’t know if we’re on different wavelength of what the studies are saying.

Hi there, okay lots to cover. Reabsorption is the term used in the literature but it is a bit misleading as there are 3 theories as to how the disc heals and most likely it is a combination of all three. There could indeed be some really reabsorption of the disc, there can be dehydration of the disc material and there can be the body breaking down the material as well. They most likely all work concurrently rather than in isolation. As for bjj, I used to do Bjj in my past life so I know where you are coming from. The nature of the sport is intense and it would be hard to go full on sparring at this moment with this injury. So I know it might seem hard to take but I would only be working on drills and the techical side of techniques not any actual sparring as it is too easy to go too hard in that spur of the moment scenario.
