This reminds me a lot of curtido! Cabbage is so versatile and I love its sturdy crunch. Smart to use the glove - I'm very heat tolerant with chilies but i still burn my hands every time I chop them without gloves and wearing contacts makes that a REALLY bad outcome!

Thanks for sharing the recipe, will give this a try! In the cooler months, I like to roast cabbage in the oven. Cut into chunks, place on sheet pan, sprinkle with about 2 TB olive oil and one teaspoon garlic powder. Mix and spread out, bake at 400 for 30 min, tossing around half way through. Good with rice and "marry me" chicken. Love your channel and look forward to more videos

At our home, we started mincing broccoli, red cabbage, onion, garlic, spices, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. When you cut everything small, it tastes like a salsa. It's good cold or hot. We've also noticed that red cabbage seems to last longer than other vegetables.

LOOKS GOOD. NEXT TIME YOU ARE MAKING IT, TRY SALTING YOUR CABBAGE REALLY GOOD LET SIT FOR A FEW HOURS STIR ONCE. THEN RINSE AND PUT BACK IN BOWL. DO WHATEVER ELSE YOU NORMALLY DO. YOU WILL FIND THE CABBAGE ABSORBES ALL YOUR STUFF BETTER. AND IT TAKES ON A BETTER FLAVOR. NEXT CUT UP YOUR CABBAGE PUT IN POT. THEN PUT SALT AND WATER IN ABOUT AN INCH OF WATER. COOK UNTIL CABBAGE IS SOFT. DRAIN OFF IF ANY WATER LEFT. THAN ADD A FEW PATS OF BUTTER. AND SOUR CREAM. MIX WELL. ADD SALT IF NEEDED. ADD FRESH OR DRYED DILL. THEN PEPPER TO TASTE. SHOULD BE CREAMY. ENJOY.

Actually, when you chop the peppers smaller/finely mince, you're increasing the surface area therefore increasing the level of heat in the dish, same as if you coarsely chop garlic vs finely mince it, the flavor will be more powerful when finely minced. Just FYI.

Cabbage recipe? Chopped cabbage, grated carrots, finely chopped celery stalks. Toss with salt and pepper in a large bowl. (I add dots of butter while tossing.) Butter a casserole dish with lid. Press vegetables into casserole dish and dot with butter. Put on lid and bake at 375 for 45 minutes. So simple! My grandma called it Calico Cabbage. So basically baked coleslaw! (With butter)

We know you're busy, to say the least, but it's about time we get a cooking video!! And WOW!! What a treat to have that nice big "studio" kitchen you have now!! Clay might need to add on a drop leaf extension on that one side, just to give you a bit more room, it might be nice for setting up a camera angle so we can see what your doing in the bowl from an over head view. Either way, Thank you Ariel.

my favorite science joke,,,, Poor old Joe will be seen no more, for what he thought was H2O was H2SO4 (sulfuric acid),,, when you cut onion, sulfur gas from the onions gets into your eyes and mixes with tears/water and creates sulfuric acid - which burns your eyes

Thank you for calling them 'purple' onion and not 'red'. That always drives me batty 😅.
@mircat28
@mircat28 Күн бұрын
It shouldn’t drive you batty because they are red. “Purple onions are technically red onions, as they are a cultivar of the onion (Allium cepa) with reddish-purple skin and white flesh with a red tinge. The term "red" is a general term for a range of colors, including purple, pink, orange, and yellow. Red onions get their color from anthocyanins and flavonoid compounds, which are also antioxidants. The skin of red onions has been used to make reddish dyes historically. Red onions are a common ingredient in salads and have a sharp flavor. To soften the taste, you can chill raw red onions in ice water for 20 minutes or rinse them under cool water before serving. “
