Join Fy Nyth on social media - mewe.com/i/fynyth ! If you are new to my channel and Fy Nyth (Welsh for "My Nest") in general, welcome! I'm Ariel. Along with my husband Clay, our dogs, cats, bees, and some poultry, we live in a tiny house on wheels in the mountains of western Wyoming and are working on setting into our own new little homestead. I've been living this lifestyle since 2014 and my wonderful partner has joined me more recently. What will you find if you follow the channel and watch the videos?
Real life here. I try to show the good and the bad. The ups and the downs. What works, and what doesn't. The parts I love (most of it!), and the things that suck. Not just the showroom version of a tiny house, but everyday life in a tiny house. Not just the romantic idea of "homesteading" or off grid life, but the everyday details of this lifestyle. We split wood for heat, fill the water tank from a gravity fed spring, and attempt to grow as much of our own food as possible between the weather and wildlife here. I hope to help others learn from mistakes and make life just a little easier for anyone else interested in pursuing a similar lifestyle.
We live in a somewhat harsh and cold climate, but enjoy the stunning scenery and wildlife that we are surrounded by on a daily basis. You'll also see videos of the nature and wildlife around my home. If you are interested in my photography or purchasing a photo, I'd love if you follow that over at mewe.com/join/arielcelestepho... or ArielCelestePhotography.zenfolio.com!

This is wonderful! I didn't know that those particular beetles couldn't fly! This sounds like a capital way to keep your flocks healthy and happy. Blessings on you both and on your homestead!💕🐑🦌

Guess that is the way to keep the Ducks and Chickens feed with their best foods is to grow their best food. You and Clay do good work. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day.😊

Cool set-up! We used to have sugar gliders and kept live meal worms for them. They are glider crack.

Very cool! I’ve been interested in growing earth worms for a longtime after experiencing them in someone’s backyard. Didn’t think of meal worms, but it makes sense and your animals love them. Win/wins are wonderful. They’re is something deeply fulfilling about taking care of food needs for both yourself and your animals. Loved the video.

Thank you for showing us! Found this really fascinating! One question - during the summer when you don’t need to feed the worms to the birds, will you freeze the surplus ones to give you extra winter feed?
@divinewrath3142

I was wondering the same, but I'm guessing it would be better to just grow the worm army for next winter. Next summer when they are prolific I could see storing some then.

Yes, mealworm farming is very simple. I started it years ago. Chickens, ducks and bluebirds love them.

Thank you SO MUCH for this informative video! I saw food production at the zoo in Rotterdam a number of years ago. Those fake rock backdrops at zoos house a multitude of grow cells raising specific food for the all kinds of animals. Except for the 80 degrees needed, I think growing mealworms to sell to local bird holders would be an interesting and easy buck!?

That is a nice set up! I am wanting to start raising them for our chickens. Question: Can you use soy meal? I get a 50lb bag of soy meal at the co-op as a supplement for our chickens. It’s pretty cheap too. I don’t remember for sure, but maybe $15 a bag? If soymeal would work, that would be a cheap way to start. Thank you for the very detailed video.
