If you dont mind me asking. I don't have a problem with using a manual tranmission but would anybody be willing to let us know what automatic tranmission a person could use for a truck engine swap for a Dakota, s15, and maybe a chevy silverado. Can you mate a 4L60 and 4L80 to the tdi diesel?
@ydocproductions5593Күн бұрын
@@28stryper I believe you can. I think there’s a few companies out there that make adapter plate kits for 4l60e/4l80e transmissions. The problem is getting them to shift properly. However if you can figure out that issue it would work just fine. In fact there’s a guy on KZbin who put a BEW 1.9L TDI into a 90s Silverado mated to a 4l60E

Very interested in your build. Picked up a 01 ALH to daily in hopes to put it in something down the road. Also have a 2WD Ext Cab Dakota that we love, and thought a 4 door would be a perfect host for the ALH since the family is growing, except that they are fairly heavy. Was looking at XJs and ZJs because they are much lighter. I'm probably looking at going mTDI with a Rover300 TDI Pump, but I am really curious how this motor does in your truck! Thanks for the content, nice work!
@ydocproductions5593Күн бұрын
@@HomesteadStructuresLLC-x6m Thank you! as far as I know only 5 other people on the internet have attempted a tdi swap into a Dakota. I bought the 4 door for space as well as a decent fuel economy truck. It’s about 1,000 lbs heavier than the vw I removed it out of, so I’m interested as well to see how a stock 90hp Alh will handle it. The good news though is I can always add more power through tuning if need be. Much more content of this project coming up soon👍

TDI swapped Tundra, has this been done before? Level of complexity similar to a Dakota?
@ydocproductions559319 күн бұрын
Not to my knowledge but I’m sure someone out there has tried. The problem swapping a tundra would be finding an adapter plate that would mate up to a tundra transmission. I don’t think an adapter plate exists. The reason I chose the Dakota is that the stock NP-233d Dakota transfer case will bolt right up to my Jeep transmission as well as the same transmission cross member will fit my Jeep nsg-370. Also the driveshafts are long enough where I don’t think I’ll need to buy custom length shafts (which are about $1,000 a piece). Toyotas are great platforms to swap however I didn’t want to pay 5k or more for a broken beat up Toyota that I would need to tear apart anyways. I paid $1,000 for my Dakota with a working engine and transmission that I will sell to break even on the truck. It just checked all the boxes off my list for doing a swap with the least amount of major fabrication and most cost effective possible.

What if I buy a 94 cluster & I have a 95
@ydocproductions559322 күн бұрын
I’m not exactly sure. Ford made several changes to their gauge clusters over the years from 92-1997. You could try it, but what I tell everyone is to make sure it’s the same year as your truck otherwise the truck won’t charge properly and could cause some serious issues. Better safe than sorry. 👍

Could the seats be switched from one side to the other? Then the repair would be on the inside of the passenger side and much less noticeable.

That idea probably would’ve worked fine, but more trouble than it was worth. The passenger seat handle that is used to fold forward would’ve been on the wrong side among other things.

are you going to solid axle swap the dakota? 4x4? rwd?
@ydocproductions5593Ай бұрын
It’s already 4wd however I’m going to keep the stock suspension up front. Keeps the build simple, low to the ground, and cost effective too. The transfer case off the Dakota will bolt right up to this 6 speed Jeep transmission of mine so I can keep my driveshafts.
