I agree, just yesterday I did an oil change for good measure and should have a fairly simple maintenance schedule from here on out. It’s been really rewarding to see this truck fixed. I wish I fixed it sooner, but on a positive note I now know just about everything there is to know about these engines, so it’s been a great learning opportunity. Same here on my truck! Not sure if you remember when you were troubleshooting I was too with literally the same exact story as yours! Hpop had been replaced with a no brand one less than 2000 miles on it and that was the culprit! I commented to try and change hpop! @@mattbohac Even though I wasn’t the one to put in that cheap HPOP it’s a great lesson learned that you usually get what you pay for when it comes to these precision parts. When I first bought the truck I would buy the cheapest sensor I could get my hands on for it, but as time went on and I learned more. When it comes to these engines best to stick to Motorcraft or an equivalent high quality part. Glad the truck is doing great for ya! Hope you have many more trouble free miles!!! What symptoms were you having for the P1211 ?
@ydocproductions559311 ай бұрын
Hi, I have a whole playlist of videos that go in-depth of what I was dealing with the p1211, but essentially I would loose power at around the 30-35mph mark. I could turn the truck off and restart the truck and it would act perfectly fine until you hit that mph mark again. Basically I had a bad mechanical fuel pump and HPOP that couldn’t keep up with the trucks’ demand under a load

Did you fix the had shift? I’ve watched all the videos up to this point and I don’t recall if you fixed it.
@ydocproductions55939 күн бұрын

@ydocproductions5593 Жыл бұрын
Ya tuners have been known to cause the p1211 code simply because they demand more oil than the system can give. How many miles does the truck have? Have you considered injector orings as being an issue?
@ronaldlemons28369 ай бұрын
Evenin I forgot to mention that while i was doin all the changes i did the fuel tank mod,i took the 2 filters out and installed a new pickup foot and changed the tubing in it and added a external filter mounted on the frame annnd installed a new OEM fuel pump,im just worried its the hpop. Truck has 209k miles. Thanks for all your input, i thot about replacing the ipr and icp even though they are only 8 months old.
@ydocproductions55939 ай бұрын
If you replaced the icp/ipr sensors with Motorcraft parts odds are they are just fine. I replaced those parts or were recently replaced by the previous owner on my truck so I know exactly how you feel. I came to the same conclusion that if everything major on the truck has been replaced then whatever’s left must be the problem. HPOPs’ aren’t cheap so it’s good you replaced the cheap stuff before spending big bucks. I would try one last test if you’re willing. Grab yourself a Hydraulic hose that’s capable of holding over 3,000psi with a 4-5,000psi oil filled gauge, and hook it up to an oil port on the head and get a reading of oil pressure driving down the road. I don’t know how many videos of my truck you watched but on my powerstroke I “dead headed” my HPOP in the driveway and gave me perfect readings. That would all change when driving under a load however. Turns out when I took my HPOP apart in one of my videos there was brass shavings all over inside the pump. I say that to say, you could test the pump in your driveway and it act completely fine but when you demand more oil pressure and that oil gets hot thinning out is when the pump can’t keep up with the demand that the injectors need. But taking some time, doing some tests, and getting some solid numbers will help you make a decision on whether you even need to touch the HPOP or not. Does the vehicle have a tuner/chip on it? Also do you have access to an OBD2 reader like “Forscan” (about $30) that program can give you live readouts of your ICP and IPR pressures so you can compare it to factory specs.
@ronaldlemons28369 ай бұрын
I installed a bully dog tuner last year but mainly drive it in stock. i prolly need to backtrack and say that after i installed the new pcm the truck absolutely ran so good but... something strange would happen,when io would take off normal at about 20 mph its like the turbo would kick in and the truck would just accelerate it was kinda strange and 2 weeks ago i went to the car wash and when i got ready to leave the truck just would barely go and it had idled the whole time in the wash bay,and yes i orded a forscan unit that plug into my laptop and thats where i got the codes,it had a P1249,P1209,P1212 and a P1211,i havent checked the fuel pressure i do have the gauge for it.
@ydocproductions55939 ай бұрын
@@ronaldlemons2836 Very interesting. Well if you said you replaced the pcm and wiring harness already, odds of having a weird electrical gremlin would be rare. It would make sense your HPOP could be faulty cause the p1209, p1211, p1212 are all ICP pressure related. I know you said you keep the tuner in stock form, but as you know when you put tuners on the vehicle it increases the demand for more oil pressure from your pump which could be a contributing factor. I would get a live readout with your Forscan tool of the ICP pressure and IPR percentage. Then get an accurate high pressure oil reading using a high pressure Hydraulic hose we talked about earlier, and see how much pressure your pump can physically put out while driving. It sounds like you’ve loaded the parts cannon and thrown everything including the kitchen sink at this truck. Before you buy a HPOP which is one of the most expensive single parts on the entire truck I think you should arm yourself with as much data and numbers possible before throwing more money at it. Have you replaced the injector orings recently?

I got my HPOP from “RiffRaff Diesel”. Their a business located in south Oregon. I was EXTREMELY pleased with their business. Not only was the HPOP a great price, but whenever I had a question about installing it I could call up their customer service and they had every answer I needed. Because I live in the northwest it also arrived at my door in only a few days (the pump was really packaged well too). I’m not sponsored by them in anyway. Just a super happy customer👍. Good luck with your truck. A little advice before you buy a HPOP, might be worth doing some diagnostic work and testing before you buy a pump. Hope it works out for ya😀👍

I replaced the pcm,the icp and ipr were genuine ford and the cam sensor. What causes over boost ?
@ydocproductions55939 ай бұрын
The overboost problem could be because your wastegate on the turbo is faulty somehow. Depending on how many miles the truck has I wouldn’t dive into the turbo just yet. Well, it sounds like you’ve replaced every sensor that’s known to fail on these engines. That being said I would get a fuel pressure guage on the vehicle and see what your fuel pressure is (!!!UNDER A LOAD!!!). You want to check it under a load because you need to see what the fuel pressure reads under real world conditions. It’s a little bit of a hassle to duct tape a fuel pressure gauge to the windshield while driving, but important to get accurate readings. Another problem could be the in the fuel tank. Because the fuel tank is plastic on Super Duty’s, over the years diesel fuel will deteriorate the plastic and the “in tank” fuel filters could’ve gotten clogged up with that plastic. Also check the fuel pressure regulator off the side of the fuel filter housing in the valley of the engine for any restrictions. The point I’m trying to make with all of this is you’ve got to get a basis of what your fuel pressure is and to see if you’re getting a restriction anywhere. These trucks do weird stuff when they aren’t getting enough fuel pressure, and then send some random “overboost” check code when in reality it’s just a fuel pressure issue that needs to be straightened out. Again I hope this makes sense and is of some help to you. When I was having a hard time wrenching on my truck I went to a website that I’ll link below that really helped. They have all the data you’d need to compare to your truck, and hopefully help you spot any abnormalities. If there’s anything else I can do to help please let me know. www.oregonfuelinjection.com/content/uploads/2016/08/ford-7.3-94-03-diagnostic.pdf

Hi Ronald, I did fix the truck with a new HPOP and Mechanical fuel pump. The truck runs so great now and is a joy to drive. With your truck p1212 indicates a ICP sensor error code and 1249 is when the pcm has discovered an “overboost” situation. Do you have any modifications to the truck what year of the 7.3 is it? If it has an overboost code that would probably indicate it’s in a Super Duty?
