I don't understand. Shouldn't the optimal ROAS be calculated based on 1) conversions per cpc. If additional conversions rise significantly compared to cpc, then we have a new sweetspot. And 2) RPL - CPA, which can be calculated based on that cpc. This sweetspot is dynamic and will change based on competition & search volume To me, it doesnt make sense to model optimal roas with ad spent. Ad spent will vary even though cpc/sis remain the same, due to search volume and things like this. In your sheet example, who is to say that your period data isn't heavily influenced by external factors?

I think you are confusing between optimal ROAS, which I believe is breakeven ROAS. The current approach talks about incremental ROAS, the point at which profit is maximized. This is NOT a ROAS vs ad spend model by any means. It simply helps give direction for increasing/reducing ad spend on the basis of a metric that involves percentage changes. There is a HUGE difference between absolute values you seem to be referring to and % differences. Think marginal. Now that the "model" definition is clear, I would say it makes sense to do this because it is based on d(profits) (ROAS is profit/ad spend in this case) on one hand, which is a proxy for incrementality, and d(ad spend), which is a proxy for a lot of intermediate metrics but particularly cpc and impression share. As for external factors, they are ALWAYS there aren't they? If you really want to factor in unpredictable external influences, you can consider including an error term but that would complicate the calculations.

@@kisholoymukherjee Why do you believe optimal ROAS is breakeven ROAS? To me, optimal ROAS is the target where you net the most profit. Moreover, I don't necessarily agree with using ad spend, as opposed to CPC and SIS. You would always want to factor in these external factors, to make the model as accurate as possible. Or, at the bare minimum, to explain what's happening. I don't think it's as easy as taking period 1 with ROAS to ad spend, period 2, period 3, etc. But rather, finding correlation between CPC and conversions, and finding a 'sweet spot' where net profit is the highest (when competition remains the same)

@@scuffedguitartabs Can you please share how you propose to use only CPC and SIS? Because I can't see how that is practical. The idea is to arrive at something actionable. What specific action can you take? Perhaps change bid strategies, but certainly change budgets right? And I am not sure I am getting the idea of "External factors"? How do you propose to handle external factors any better when using cpc and SIS? Do you have any formula or document or anything so that I can better understand your argument / alternative proposal?

What happens when you are looking at different channel? Do you use the F-statistic, then compare each channel incrementality versus the total to get, which channels are high and low performers?

Thanks for sharing! If I can give you some suggestions to optimize yout next video. Make annotations in the video, so people can easily see where they have to go for which part. Also, I think it's even better if you literally set it up and explaining why or how you do it. Now everything is already filled in, which makes it a little harder to understand. But thanks helped me out!

Thanks Quint, yes I agree with your suggestions, still early days in my KZbin journey, hopefully will get better over time. As for the literal set up, that is actually because of some apprehensions regarding accidentally revealing brand names, as I am not supposed to (yet anyway). I know there are ways to blur or smartly edit but I haven't had the time yet. I know I must optimize more. Thanks again for watching and your valuable feedback. Really glad it helped you!

Hey Kisholoy, Quick question. I went through all the steps, but when I open the tag assistant I get the notification that the Google tag: gtm-xxxx was not found. Do I have to add the GTM tag in the theme file for this?

Hi in the video I have discussed how the debug/preview mode does not work when using the Shopify customer events. You can use the Tag Assistant extension or the browser console to verify the tracking
