In August 2024, Shopify's checkout.liquid will be deprecated for Information, Shipping, and Payment checkout steps. As a result, if you have to implement Google Ads conversion tracking, you need to switch to using the Customer Events within Shopify Settings section instead. This section provides a currently sandboxed environment for all types of tracking across all platforms - be it Google, Facebook, Tiktok or Google Tag Manager. The sandboxing also comes with some disadvantages/challenges, like non-availability of preview/debug mode. I have discussed how to set up Google Ads conversion tracking using this new Customer Events section in Shopify along with the challenges and possible ways to mitigate them.

Thanks for sharing! If I can give you some suggestions to optimize yout next video. Make annotations in the video, so people can easily see where they have to go for which part. Also, I think it's even better if you literally set it up and explaining why or how you do it. Now everything is already filled in, which makes it a little harder to understand. But thanks helped me out!

Thanks Quint, yes I agree with your suggestions, still early days in my KZbin journey, hopefully will get better over time. As for the literal set up, that is actually because of some apprehensions regarding accidentally revealing brand names, as I am not supposed to (yet anyway). I know there are ways to blur or smartly edit but I haven't had the time yet. I know I must optimize more. Thanks again for watching and your valuable feedback. Really glad it helped you!

How do you convert {% if first_time_accessed %} into Customer Events to ensure we are not getting duplicate parameters?

Hey Kisholoy, Quick question. I went through all the steps, but when I open the tag assistant I get the notification that the Google tag: gtm-xxxx was not found. Do I have to add the GTM tag in the theme file for this?

Hi in the video I have discussed how the debug/preview mode does not work when using the Shopify customer events. You can use the Tag Assistant extension or the browser console to verify the tracking
