My favorite part of this Brian May co-written movie is how Brian May, the character, is a perfect lil' boy who doesn't party, doesn't do drugs, definitively does not cheat on his wife.

I have seen most of the documentaries about Queen and Freddie so I feel like I have a fairly good grasp on the story that they were trying to tell, and they missed the mark big time. The fact that Brian and Roger signed off on it was baffling at the time. Although now that they've rereleased the first Queen album and they've autotuned Freddie's vocals, maybe it's not so surprising. Perhaps they still harbour some form of resentment for him or the fact that he was the biggest star in the band. The movie just seems to have been made by people who didn't like Freddie very much or at least have some kind of unresolved issues with him.

I completely agree with the movie having fascist themes but I also think calling it Nazi propaganda is inaccurate. It has the themes and messaging associated with fascism as a whole, which the nazis also did, but it's missing specifics characteristic of nazism in particular (ie. antisemitism and german nationalism). It feels both performative and inaccurate to call it Nazi specifically because it just isn't, and calling people Nazis has lost significance to an average person because they just don't agree and think "the left" calls people Nazis arbitrarily. If something is fascist call it fascist, but fascist propaganda != nazi propaganda.

Worst thing about the Zombies franchise is it tries to tackle THREE different racial injustices with historical context, yet every single film is about the pretty w#ite popular girl trying to find out which minority she belongs to so she can be oppressed too. Seriously, all three groupings of 'minorities' are all secondary to Addison's need to be the center of everyone's worlds, and of course, the entire franchise ends with her actually, literally, and completely BEING The Special. The three films are one long string of W#ite Savior Complex.

Hey Big Joel, you probably won't see this, but I just wanted to let you know that I love the thing you've been doing with the still shots of your expressive reactions to the thing you're talking about. It's hilarious every time, keep doing it, I love it.

I cant imagine how it might have felt writing this, but this video became like a comforting friend after watching it for so long over so many days. When Big Joel goes "all this time, I've really just been describing my taste over and over" and it's like damn that's so true! Yet it was so cozy and fun the whole time. Genuinely laughed so many times, but i also loved some of the more thoughtful approaches too. Overall I'm just really glad i spent time with this video!

Actually, the Isle of the Lost from Descendants feels completely at place within a Disney universe. The Disney aesthetic is so overly polished and manicured that for it to exist in a real setting would require some kind of long-term absolute apartheid. It's like the societal version of a giant ornamental lawn that can only exist with constantly destructive maintenance, and it seems like the film-makers just let that run to its logical conclusion, only tweaking it slightly to allow some of the oppressed the opportunity to be assimilated into the oppressor class. They couldn't offer any real opposition to the concept because that type of ghetto is necessary for the core essence of disneycore to survive.

In my opinion a good movie-based-on-a-TV-show should still be accessible to people who haven’t seen the show. Example- The X Files: Fight the Future.

I've noticed in things like movie reviews you tend to deceptively clip and/or willfully ignore obvious points, but it's really obvious here. This just feels like jealousy and wanting to get views from a bigger channel by being dishinest about it while "technically" not lying.

from what i'm reading in the comments that no one mentioned yet (or maybe someone has and i haven't seen it yet) but the horror writer while yes historical romance is like super popular and horror isn't as popular so in turn she would be wayyyy better off (like some other comments have said) but i can sense they also want to reinforcement gender roles as well in this, not in the comments, but in the way the writers not just saying that writing horror is bad and it's sinful to write those things but WOMEN shouldn't write about that bc of the idea of purity, like when younger version of her want to specifically write historical romance, bc from what i understand in a lot of historical romances (or maybe just a lot idk i don't really read those kinds of books) appeal to a lot of christian women and a lot of them (i think) are writen by christian women so i think what the the writers are also trying to softly suggest (who am i kidding strongly suggest) what if a women wants to write she has to write write women stuff like romance,. despite the fact that those books also can have just as much smut and horrific things happening in them sorry for this being so rumbly but that just my two sense on that since joel didn't mention that , oh and that over arcing feeling that women will never be happy in a job field but rather then making her just as or even more successful now in her new life bc she's now doing something she loves AND she has a loving husband BUT NOOOOOO they just had to take that away from her and imply what she's less successful (from what that 'angel' said you moved back home implying that she moved back in with her parents or at least i think that's what he meant because i assume little teen her didn't own a home or apartment) AND she has a husband now so it equals out, you always see this like type of media that if a women is successful she is unhappy and that only way to solve it is to get married and forfeit what made her successful in the first place.

I've watched this special a few times, and from the first viewing, I've noticed that Gervais was a weird presence in this special. I've always interpreted it as coming from a desperate need in Gervais to be treated as a peer by the other three. Because although Gervas had been amazingly successful in many endeavours at this point in his career, I don't think he thought of himself as on par with the other three when it came to standup. Comedy writing, yes. Comedy performance on screen, yes. But standup, no. So he laughs at the others' jokes too loudly. And when talking about his work, he needs to show that he isn't just funny, he's a master craftsman of jokes. But it comes across as pretentious, of overthinking his act, and the others don't buy it. They can see through him. I've seen him act similarly when he's asked about atheism or evolution in interviews or panel shows. He's a little too earnest, too strident, in the way he says things, because he's not as intelligent or as knowledgeable as an expert in the field is. So he's overcompensating for his own imposter complex.

12:27 if I heard that when I was at my lowest, it would’ve pushed me over the edge. Because my reason has always been 12:50 this. I hated this and that’s why I struggled. No amount of “you’re worth it or life is worth it” can fix the world itself. If I heard those messages by someone who was supposed to be an authority and wise figure, that would’ve been my validation to off it. :(

i'm surprised you didn't mention these things ab HSM2: sharpay's 'hawaiian' song has been removed from most streaming versions of the movie due to criticism of cultural insensitivity, and the song i don't dance is widely acknowledged as an allegory for homosexuality

I wasn’t aware of the first one, and certainly Disney plus still has the song, so I’m not actually sure which streaming service you mean. To the second, yeah I mean I don’t say it’s an allegory, but don’t I call it gay?

The very existence of a bad place, theoretically makes no sense. It's something used to make people scared for becoming disbelievers and follow their old sacrosanct rules. What purpose does a hell serve? Hurt dead people forever after they've died? How does pain rehabilitate then? And what for? there's nothing left.

It's honestly such a good message, that people can improve once given the opportunity. It does jump over, nuance and reality to some extent but it's good.

I get what you’re saying, but I don’t think it’s as deep as you think it is. It’s just a bunch of comedians with differences of opinions having a discussion/debate with no animosity. I did start to get the impression you have a slight grudge toward Ricky though as when you started playing his stand up clips of jokes you say, “fell flat”, I noticed you cut the audio before the audience laughter. Then when playing the joke you said you quite liked, you allowed it to play longer to hear the audience laughter. Crafty editing sir.

i washed this entire thing across three nights and I’ll do it again. this opened me up to what Disney currently puts out for children, it’s good to know the kids still get some good media, albeit different. but the Disney channel definitely isn’t what it used to be. Not that it was perfect, but it was less homogenous with the disney brand at large. i think it’s good for kids to have age appropriate media to gather around and obsess over. it feels like they have less and less space to just be children, even just from 10 years ago. this video was fun! now I’ll never have to wonder what i missed💀 i forgot how good wendy wu was, and i loved cheetah girls so much, it was my favorite print for years!
