“I don’t care about the difference between one and two second round picks” I agree in theory, but in reality I think we’re talking about the binary difference between “getting enough value for Cronin to think it’s worth trading him” and “low enough value that Cronin decides to hold onto him”. If that one second round pick is what it takes to get Cronin to finally pull the trigger, then it’ll have been 100% worth it
@JonathanEvers-c8x6 сағат бұрын
I share a lot of the same frustrations. Ultimately I agree with Eric’s sentiment that I won’t be officially concerned until the vets are still on the team after the deadline. I understand why people are upset right now… I have said similar things in the past and Cronin has almost always done the wrong thing. I fully expect and am prepared for him to do the wrong thing again. But theoretically, if he does do the right thing and trade guys this time, this could all work out fine. The vets will have more value, the team will have at least had stretches of the season to build on, and it’s still very possible they finish the season with fewer than 25 wins given how they’ve played post-deadline. And while guys like Jerami and Ant have been getting lots of minutes, some of the biggest contributors to this streak have been Deni and Toumani, and Scoot/Shae have also played well in previous solid stretches. All that said, if they don’t trade the vets, this is all for nothing and they will have officially have committed to being the Bulls. That much is indisputable

I don’t think holding onto Ayton is as bad as you think. Clingan doesn’t even have an nba body yet and can’t play 30+ a game anyways. Holding onto him for another year and he can become a UFA, and hopefully Clingan by then has an nba body and endurance. Grant needs to go by the deadline no matter what, because he’s taking time away from our younger forwards. Simon’s can go but shouldn’t force it unless we get value for him. He’s still young and I think he plays into more value anyways. The main problem I have with the scoot situation is that they’re not utilizing his playmaking ability and I often see him sitting in the corners.

I thought Chauncey did exactly what he needed to. The starting lineup last night was the best lineup they could put together. He’s coaching for his career, he had absolutely no viable alternatives to that. Being benched isn’t a demotion. Scoot may have had an opportunity to close the game if he played well and could go 2 minutes without fouling. That’s on him. He and Shaedon both had that opportunity and they both didn’t earn it. They’ve both played well off the bench before, so I don’t think it’s fair to blame the lineup. Ultimately this falls on the front office, and the front office alone. This is exactly why it would be a disaster if they don’t make any moves. If there’s no JG, Scoot starts and everyone else shifts down. Then it’s three young core players plus Rob and Ant, and with Clingan out the only way to slide in another young core players would be trading Ant. But as it stands, given the front office’s inability to make moves, they made the right call and there were two young core guys in the starting lineup (and a notable fringe guy off the bench) who contributed to this performance, and I think that’s alone is encouraging.
@israteeg752Күн бұрын
I was just wondering if Scoot was brought off the bench last night as part of a workload management strategy to avoid any injuries, given that the Blazers are playing back-to-back games. I suppose we'll find out if it's true or not soon enough based on how Chauncey treats him in the upcoming games, either back to being a starter or keeping him coming off the bench.

Miami Heat made the play-in and made the Finals. Just saying, I think we can catch a team like Minnesota. We just need to keep winning and hope others start to lose. @BlazersUprise22 сағат бұрын
Qe have to be realistic man. This team has absolutely zero chance of making the Finals... in that case you could say 25 teams have a chance. They have a bottom 5 offense and defense according to adjusted NET Rating and have zero chance at the play-in. Play-In should not be the long-term goal, contending should be. That matters more to me than chasing a play-in that we have no chance at. The 10th place team is above .500 and the Blazers are 12 games under. They'd have to win over two thirds of their games the rest of the season to finish above .500... they're not capable of that and they know it. Ayton can try his hardest, he will never prove why he was the #1 pick cuz he'll never be close to Luka or Trae Young...

I have to push back on the notion that we want to lose games with the young guys playing well. Because unfortunately that would necessarily mean our vets are playing poorly, which makes them even harder to trade than they currently are. Give me two weeks of wins on the backs of the vets if that’s what it takes to raise their trade value enough for Cronin to pull the trigger. Otherwise we’ll just be stuck like this for another year. I’d much rather be in the position the nets are in, where the vets are playing so well that they have teams lining up out the door to trade for them, and still with time to pull the plug after the all star break

Personally not a fan of Torey’s twitter trade. I like it if you take out Portland sending the least favorable 2029 pick. But as it stands now, they trade Rob and a first for the possibility of moving up a little bit near the top of that draft. But given how likely it is that MIL is the worst of those teams by that point, there’s a very real possibility that the net result of that trade is that Portland trades Rob and a first for nothing. I just don’t think they’re in a position to be net-negative on draft picks in deals unless it’s either for a player like Deni (or perhaps Cam, I like the idea of Rob and the least favorable for him) or something like what the Jazz just did. You could argue this is like the Jazz trade, but given how good/young the Rockets are and Dallas having Luka plus some young guys, you’re essentially betting on phoenix being worse than Milwaukee. Given the Suns management, Booker being younger than Giannis, and Phoenix being a more desirable destination, I’m not not very confident in that
