@@GarageGear in comparison to the 28 sho with the slightly larger engine. Is there an advantage or because the impeller is the same size it Doesn't make a difference? Serious question trying to learn all this.

Thanks again for the Ariens Deluxe demo. Your enthusiasm for this machine led me to purchase one, although I was looking for a 24 inch model I found a killer deal on a 921022 older 28 Deluxe that was owned by snow birds who had they snow removed by a service while they were away so this machine has limited corrosion. Thanks to your upgrade videos I did replace the lever steer that looked like new with the newer version auto steer. Also a Led headlight replaced the halogen version , heated grips installed that came with it in a box , plastic skids, impeller kit, scraper bar was also replace as it look likely they never put enough air in the tires and the use it did get ground it uneven, rounded out the upgrades. With a complete lube job new belts, shear bolts and corrosion preventative application it is ready for that snow plow driver that always tries to make a mountain at the end of my driveway and bury my mail box.

Bought a previous model of this machine at Lowe's, also got a military discount (NICE!). This machine is a TANK...I don't get the snow you get in Buffalo, but I get my place and 2 neighbors, and it more than gets the job done. This is a great machine! It replaced a 20 yr old Yard Man that I had reconditioned and is now being use at our church.

I went with the 24” Platinum SHO as I have one area about 24x60 feet and all the snow has to go out one of the 24’ sides. The old 8 HP MTD had to move the same snow 6-10+ times to clear the driveway. With the SHO I only have about 10-15’ with a double layer snow to move. The rest clears the driveway in one pass. The job goes much faster with the Ariens… and the price was quickly forgotten!

I have a 40 year old Ariens ST524 that has handled everything that the northwest side of Rochester, NY has thrown at it so far. I got some fresh non-ethanol and started it for the first time a couple of days ago. One pull. If there's ever a catastrophic failure, I'll feel that I got my money's worth.

Hard plastic skid shoes help with the auto turn. I tried the longer shoes that you use, but found the plastic ones to work the best with the auto turn so that you aren't fighting the machine to keep it straight when you hit the bombs or frozen patches.

I have a 2022 deluxe 24. At the end of the season this last winter I pulled the belt cover to do a belt inspection and there was oil all over the back of the engine. Pulled the engine off of the blower and removed the rear cover to find a big gouge in the rubber seal. It’s fine now after a new seal was installed. Hopefully the new engine is better quality than the LCT 254 is.

That is one sexy machine. I just went through my 14 year old tiger and got her ready for a hearty NH winter. She has never let me down and I have done all the work and yearly maintenance myself. Is it bad to say that I had fun doing a complete overhaul, she is crying for snow, lol. Have fun this season. I laughed when you "looked under the hood" on a brand new machine. I would do the same thing.

I really enjoy your videos. I have a 2021 Deluxe 24. I like the position of the choke and throttle on the 2024. In 2021 the carb is easy to get at and there is a drain plug. I really like my machine. Keep the videos coming.

Thanks to these reviews, I ordered an Ariens Pro 28. It was delivered to the dealer scratched up. Ariens refused to replace it and wanted to send replacement parts. I cancelled the order and went with a Honda HSS1332. A little more expensive but far more of a solid made machine.

Sure is nice Ariens decided to go with a newly designed engine, hopefully this one is easier to take apart than the old one. It kind of looks like the engines found on Toro snowblowers.

Quick question. I store my snow blower in the garage over the summer. Pros and cons of storing it under a fabric cover to keep the dust off.

The dip stick and the axle bearing holders that are rusty from new need some work. I checked one out yesterday. Nice balance and easy to maneuver. The tires are massive.

I purchased an Ariens 24" Compact last year. The village snowplows piled about 18" of rock hard snow and ice into my driveway entrance. The Ariens chewed through it like a champ. The only downside is that even on speed one, the snowblower moves too fast for hardpacked snow. Can you adjust it to slow down the forward speeds? Also, coming from a 28" Craftsman, 24" is a pretty narrow cut. Now you just need to put a heated handgrip kit on that bad boy.

I hope these engines are good as the LCTS. Practically every snowblower manufacturer uses these engines now. Like toro, Husqvarna and now Ariens. I just wish someone would produce some engines in the U.S and not overseas. These are Loncin engines like the toros.

Just ordered a 30 inch Ariens Deluxe to replace my 21 year old Toro 28 inch. I have an 80 foot driveway that's 40 feet wide at the top. Being on the "downhill" side of the street I usually end up with a sizeable packed snow/ice berm at the foot of the d-way from the town snow plow.

Thank you Jb. I went and changed the oil on my cub cadet 3x and i went to fire it up and it only ran on choke and it smelt like bad gas. So im trying to figure out how to drain the fuel tank without a siphon pump.

@@Jeremy-gy1uh hey Jeremy last years engine is tried and true. They run great. It most likely came down to production costs I’m betting. It usually does. They’re testing this one out on deluxe 24 and 28 models. Keep the one you got. They ran that engine for nearly a decade.

@@robertsride1498 I like where your head is at Robert! If you live in an area that sees a lot of snow, which you do, I would recommend getting them on. I use xtrac tires which have a very deep tread and those are fine. If your tires don’t provide good traction it’s best to use them. As far as different kinds of chains I’ll have to look into those.

Are you ready to hit 100k?!! I have the Deluxe 24 but last years model. Sometimes the front can start to drive up onto the snow. I saw Ariens has a 10lb weight you can add to the front. Curious if you had any experience with it or what your thoughts were? I also added the Ariens polymer skids and have heated hand grips on the way. 😂

Hey JP. Great info (again)! Got a new Ariens 28 Deluxe thanks in part to you and your channel. After doing your break-in and prep suggestions, I have a question for ya. Been thinking about putting a clear protective film on the inside of the chute, to protect from rocks and debris. After looking at some used ones, I noticed many with chips in the throat, some starting to rust. Got the idea for the protective film, but wondering if it’d impede the snow in any way. What do you think? Good idea or bad? … (I’d post a link to the product but every time I do, my comment disappears and doesn’t show up.)

If you do this, test a piece of the film with your rustproofing product of choice just to make sure it doesn't react with the film and melt/eat the film. I love this idea though, similar to rock guard film that comes on a new car.

@@SnowKing716 Good point. I’ve tried to reply multiple times pointing to the product I’m considering, but my replies/comments keep getting deleted. Anyway-it’s a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), and doesn't appear to have a conflict with WD40 ("WD-40 is generally safe to use on plastic, metal, rubber, and wood. However, you should avoid using WD-40 on polycarbonate and clear polystyrene plastic."). However-like JB says-I spray and rub in Fluid Film. If anyone knows how Fluid Film would react to a TPU, then I’m all ears. 👍

Do we know what the new engine gives the consumer vs the old previous years AX engine? The old one ran great from what i have seen. Wondering if it was warranty issues causing a new design. You mentioned No popping on throttling down and that is definitely nice. I have the 369cc and if i throttle down to fast it Pops. Any idea how to fix that or just leave it? Thanks JB

@@ak907silvers6 hey Ak not exactly sure. Could be the fuel you’re using, could be the carburetor. If it’s popping like crazy, or backfiring, I would have it checked out. If it’s not a big issue I would just let it be. 👍

one thing i can't understand is why they have the recoil on the "other" side of the blower, wish it was on the same side as the other controls. love my deluxe 28 which i highly modified and it's been through some wars here in Ohio for sure

Hi JB....i was putting my new Ariens together and noticed that the auger shoot does not sit down all the way and make contact with the black plastic base plate...there is a small gap between the two...so the entire shoot assembly is supported by only two bolts in the square tube support arm....is this the correct assembly?....it drives me nuts that its not resting on and supported by the base plate....thanks.

Hard to tell without seeing it in person but I would check to make sure all bolts and parts in their designated spots. It should be sitting on that base!

Great video JB. I REALLY wish you lived closer! I just bought the Arien's...KRAKEN! The King of the Arien's line! (Care to take Garage Gal on road trip to Northern Maine to give a Kraken review??) Its 30" of Tracked snow mutilating machine. It has a toggle switch near the right handle that controls the angle and the direction of the chute! You really need to come out and see it!!!

But at least you don't catch your coat pocket on the rear quickturn control like on the Ariens Classic 24. That may be the reason for the forward "ice drill" on the upgraded Deluxe models.

I have Ariens Deluxe I bought it new 2015. Just picked up another ariens 8.5hp 24in it's older one late 80's it's my back up one I had MTD 10.5hp 24in it fell apart

Picked up a 24” rapid track for a friend last year. Used it once, it’s a nice machine but man it feels so cheap and flimsy. Have you noticed a difference in that respect with the pro models that have the square stock for handles.

It all comes down to money and manufacturing my friend. I’m sure they had their reasons. Very similar design on toros snowblowers I recently noticed too. Like anything if you take care of it it should last a long time.

The left handle being the lock handle, makes it a bit awkward to reach over with your right hand, to reach the crank to turn the chute. The turn crank, should be on the right side instead. Also, we can no longer get Ethanol Free gas where I live. Any suggestions? Just continue to use high test and never let the gas sit for too long?

You can get ethanol free "True Fuel" fuel from Home Depot and Lowes....2 stroke premix and 4 stroke...It is a bit pricy.

Hey arx! It has a standard bowl bolt on the bottom. I’ll double check for a drain bolt. You can access that from the bottom.

Wondering the same regarding the carb drain bolt on these new 2024 season Ariens engines. Also I have an Ariens Pro 28 from Chuck at Schaub's in WS. He spent a lot of time with me when I was debating that purchase vs. the Toro 1428 equivalent. He knows these machines inside and out. @@gregmaltby5979 hey Greg this one is brand new for 2024. They only put this engine on the deluxe 24 and 28 models just recently. They’re basically testing it out. If you bought the 921045 you would have a great engine that’s proven tough. It’s been out for a while.👍

You can still get it at certain Shell gas stations . Buy the premium, there will be a sticker on the pump stating ethanol content.

Bought one new and found the autoturn was its biggest downfall. I hated it so much i was going to junk it! Really, i wrote Airens and ket them know anyone who could turn the machine they were running shouldnt own it. I ended up opening up the autoturn gearbox, and vut aluminum wedges to lock the gear train. I also got rid of the stupid lever lock between the auger and drive levers which makes working ro shoot handle while turning less of a workout. I pinned the auger to the active mode by adding a slip pin to the same lever they used - i can kick it off in less than a second if some kid decides to jump into the auger out if nowhere. I like the machine now but it still doesnt compare to the Jacobsen i used as a kid

I could not really focus on your review, I was imagining Josh Allen squishing the fish lol. Seriously though, great review. I have the Ariens 30 Deluxe with extra Led Upgrades on the front and the plastic skid shoes which really makes a difference. The new engine looks good and only time will tell how good it is. I like how they addressed some shortcoming with the older AX engines. The throttle I really like as the other style was really not very good. No heated grips on this one, as i am sure you will be rectifying and the impeller kit. One complaint that i have and others may not be concerned is, i wish Ariens would move the Chute rotator under the Dash like they had with their Second Line Models. It does get awkward reaching over and turning but thats just me in my opinion. Again great review and of Course GO BILLS!!!

After doing some research, since 2016, Ariens uses Chinese engines built to Tecumseh design. LCT bought the rights to Tecumseh designs in 2009. I think I read that LCT is owned by Ariens, but builds all engines in China. As a side note, they also make a fuel injected version. Currently, Ariens uses building their products in the US using the Chinese engines, but how long until Ariens moves all manufacturing to China? I apologize for my previous comment. Although this is the world we live in, I find moving manufacturing out of the US very disturbing.

These blowers really aren’t that great. The “new” engine is a Chinese made unit built to Ariens’ spec. It’s not as good as previous versions of this same blower which used Briggs and Stratton or other well known engine brands. The friction disc drive in these models is well known for premature failure even under normal use. A friction disc should last many years but these are known to fail in as little as one season. The transmission gear selector is basically an MTD design and hard to quickly change gears. The chute rotator is cheaply made and the chute has a tendency to “walk” away from the position you set it at as you use it. The “easy steering “ feature is annoying as you can lose traction when trying to bite into hard snow on just one side (widening a driveway for example) because the ratchet mechanism senses a load difference and cuts traction to one of the wheels. It certainly isn’t the worst blower, but I’m not impressed with these.
