I heard them on MTV way back! Instant rapt attention... the energy, the ridiculous syncopation, every one of them master musicians, not a note out of place, as impressive live as on disc... a bit twisted, hard rock, pop, lots of ska, jazz, classical, anger, pain, joy... probably insanity... lol.

So different from anything else they could be playing along with The Max Rebo band from Return of the Jedi (original 1983's music). Fact they did play along with two Aliens 👽 once, Klaus Nomi and early Gary Numan, it's in a documentary. If you want something similar sounding check out the German New wave band Hubert Kah, the 1982-83 songs have similarities.

this was put on by KROQ?!? i still have my personalized "KROQ Z" license plate from my first car in 1992, a 1980 Datsun 280ZX t-top. a big regret is leaving Cali before going to a Boingo Halloween show. :/

The tragedy here, is that many know of Danny Elfman from movies but, maybe less than half of them know of Oingo Boingo, probably even less than that.

I was actually at this performance. I wasn't one of the paid regular dancers yet I was there for tapings on a regular basis. On one side of the soundstage was the dance floor then just swing the cameras 180° and the performance stage was at the opposite end. It was this nondescript building in Burbank right next to the I-5. "Live" performances were actually lip-synced, Oingo Boingo included, but the volume and the energy made it feel like a live performance. Both Danny Elfman and Johnny Vatos were cool, gracious and signed autographs after. Great memories!

Wow! Horns, musicians who kill it live, interesting and original musical composition and lyrics. Making the present look pretty bad, although I think there is always good music at any time, you just need to find it. And now it's really hard to find. Been a fan since 1982 of Boingo.

i saw them at the Universal when they were on their funky "Good for your Soul" tour. The opening band was "Red Hot Chili Peppers" who were almost booed off the stage because Oingo Boingo fans didn't want funk.

I was an 80's (music) child and I quickly strayed from most bands like Men At Work; Flock of Seagulls; Depeche Mode (not at US Fest); Greg Kihn; Rick Springfied et cetera ... but for decades now I have wondered if Wall of Voodoo could perform live; and I just found the 83 US Festival and their set wasn't bad at all. Then I saw 3 songs from Oingo Boingo appearance. I'd seen Weird Science and their appearance in Rodney Dangerfield movie Back to School and knew Elfman had become a movie score composer for Tim Burton ... and, damn, Oingo Boingo is every bit as good as The Talking Heads. Actually the only band from this May 28th 1983 that I own a Cd or vinyl to this day is INXS. Not for long. Great backstory origins too, for Elfman complete with a 70s movie before the band shortened their name that was directed by Danny's older brother. Forbidden Zone. Bizarre. Must check it out. Cult following. Imagine that.

I think the untitled song is an instrumental version of a song called Psychopath. There's another demo of it with vocals.

Where can one hear this vocal take demo?
@MrDpool1
@MrDpool1 7 ай бұрын
@@aceone9474 It’s less a vocal take and more like a guide/scratch vocal. I have an old version of what the Dead Kennedys would release as the Iguana Studio Rehearsal. It has a second take of Forward To Death On it, as well as Viva Las Vegas, a song that starts with a blast of feedback with the guitars really clipping in the mix listed as “B-Flag” (it’s not a Black Flag song), and then this song under the name Psychopath. It’s a bit more well formed than this jam with Jello singing some lyrics and then it gets cut off as if the tape ran out before they finished it.
@MrDpool1
@MrDpool1 7 ай бұрын
@@aceone9474 I think “B-Flag” was recorded at a literal band rehearsal and not at this session. It’s clearly Jello singing into the mic, but it sounds like it was recorded to a boombox with a towel over it. Similar in quality to the Vicious Circle tapes.
@aceone9474

@@MrDpool1Is the second take of Forward To Death different than the ones included in the video? I also never heard of the second take of Viva Las Vegas either, that’s really interesting
@MrDpool1
@MrDpool1 7 ай бұрын
@@aceone9474 I think the whole thing is a different rehearsal/demo than what you posted. Definitely later with the band being more tight and songs being a bit more developed. The first attempt at Forward To Death is slower and seems like Ted is working out the drum parts before building speed. The second recording isn’t that different from the album version.

Una delle migliori band americane degli anni 80, un suono originale e con i testi di Stan Ridgeway ad abbellire il tutto, super!
