Fred, #9 might possibly be a fossil, maybe a sponge/stromatoporoid. But they're usually ancient, 500 to 600,000,000 years old. Could what you're looking at be that old? If it's glacial till maybe. It's still rock and roll to me😅😂😅😂😂

Ooohhh. I love that rock but I hadn't known of stromatoporoid. I'm glad you mentioned that because I looked it up. Yes it is possible it's one but the history I know of Clatsop Spit is that the glacial till was placed 8500 years ago, but that's not necessarily where they formed and maybe the rocks were moved multiple times and Clatsop Spit is it's last movement. The one thing by looking these up is that I seen images of these "plates" with a bumpy sort of alligator looking skin. I have a couple of those out of Washington but I didn't know what they were. You may have set me on the right path. Thanks bud. 🎸🎶😁

Yay, glad you enjoyed it. It was a great time out and hoping River will be in more of my videos but I'll take what I can get from my wonderful teen. I can hardly keep up with my younger kid Dylan when he hounds so I don't know when he'll make an appearance. Anyway, yes #9 might be my favorite. I knew you'd like that last one. Similar look to lightning stones from Michigan and if I remember correctly, your a fan of those and Petoskey stones.

@@RickSmith-kp3sy I think you're right about the Jasper but I'm not sure I'd call it brecciated. I'm still learning but I felt I'd need to see more individual pieces that are cemented together. I'll take all advice though. Why is the Mississippi such an unusual river? Because it has 4 I's but can't see.

Because they're all dead 😮... thought I was going to say because the P is silent, didn't you 😂 Sorry about the first cut not working out for you but once you start, you'll be addicted so you'll have many winners ahead of yourself... especially cutting material like that. There is a light purple in there, which is why I wanted to cut deeper. It just wasn't enough purple for me to call it amethyst. Maybe next time. I hear there's some in the hills near me. Have to explore next spring.

I was recently in the Prince George area of British Columbia, I found those "sugar agates" and a few exciting pieces to add to my collection as I'm from North Western Ontario. I'd love to come back to the west coast to collect more rocks. I had to laugh at the name of your channel- Often, in my travels, I get sidetracked in collecting rocks that catch my eye and the person I'm with gets impatient and tells me that's enough rocks- but then suddenly, another rock will catch my eye as I'm trying to depart.

😂 Not recording would be something I would do! It's ok. The sparky night cutting was neat and I've not seen anyone do that purposely before. Also I was wondering if they would look much different if dipped in some water? I don't know because I don't do cutting and definitely not a pro. Just curious 🤔 Thanks for sharing. P.S. I've done it multiple times. I like the idea myself...even though it was mine, but I think it can be perfected and be spectacular but more learning and trying things out. Maybe I'll kick up the water when cutting at night. It might be light one of those water light shows. Good shared idea, thanks. I'm far from any expert either, I think it's obvious. Many of us aren't... maybe that's how we relate. Just some diehard rock fans trying to have a good time. That sounds like fun. Enjoy yourself. Perfect poem 😂. Straight to the point and so true. @@LezBeRockin73That is true...it does help. I use mineral oil for that but I could have used more. It did kind of dry up before I shot the footage. I had things set up to record and got called away by family. I forgot to add more when I got back before recording. I like the oil because it doesn't dry as quickly as water... especially if it's warm out or I'm in the sun. Plus then I'm not dripping water everywhere. Thanks for the suggestion. 👍

That's why I love cutting' uglies. So unpredictable. It's wonderful to see bands in obvious agates or obvious features in beautiful rocks, but the absolute unknown of an ugly rock is kind of thrilling adventure.

Funny video Fred. I have a question on your polishing setup. Are you using a regular angle grinder or a slow speed one? Do you have any issues with it shorting out from getting wet?

@@RWOxner Thanks. I'm using a variable speed angle grinder. I forget the rpm range but it gets too fast to manage so I'm working within the first 3 speeds only, mostly first 2. This was a discounted open box Harbor Freight deal for $8. No instructions, ho handle. Yes, shorting out has recently started happening. What I've been doing lately, when not recording, is I place a shoe box sized tote lid over the body so the water runs off forward. I'm so low budget but I'm working on a plan to turn it into a more traditional flat lap so I'll do a video of that. It will be made of inexpensive every day stuff from any basic hardware store so many people can be capable of doing it themselves if they choose.

@just-one-more-rock look up the lost Lemmon mine in the early days of montana territory, the tobacco plains camp is a site I have claim and mineral rights ,just barely getting thru the top layers of a tailings dump bit awesome native green stone with celadonite crystals and aluminum crystals in basalt along with some unidentified stone
