I love all hip hop, but lyrically, New York was on another level. Sometimes, that was to their detriment. However, I think there is a balance. West coast rappers were going platinum with ease. Meanwhile, east coast rappers struggled with sales. West coast rappers and rappers from the South also seemed to be more entrepreneurial. East Coast rappers depended on contracts. Even the ones going gold and platinum had bad contracts.

I know this just came out. But this has to Boldy’s worst album of the decade. Even lack luster releases like hidden in plain sight or Mr ten08 have some personality. This just sounds like stock-trap beat BS. I don’t want to hear Boldy over this mediocre of production again. You mention the lukewarm reception to his last release, well holy sht. This is 10x worse. At least that one had evolving sounds and psychedelic soundscapes to keep the listener intrigued. This just made me feel like it was a chore to get through, which is something that has never happened before with one of Boldy’s albums. 2 mics bro get this bs outta here

I think it comes down to the younger generations consumption of Hip Hop..There attention spands are very short so that's why artists are trying so hard to stay relevant by consistently dropping projects..And it really annoys me because most of these artists catering the newer generations are dropping short projects people call them albums but if it's less than 10 -12 songs it's a EP just keeping it a buck

Im definitely fkn w/this, already ordered my vinyl. I always give posthumous releases a double-take because they’re often just labels/estates trying to squeeze the last bit of revenue that they can from a fledgling fanbase, but Mac’s people do it way different and really care. As a fan, I’m glad Mac’s people aren’t the kind to sully his name with subpar to trash release that were never meant to see the light of day all for a payday. It’s a bit soon to say but this is possibly a top 4 project from him, just in my opinion.

Not just a personal, but I consider this an across-the-board classic. And I say that as a person who was growing up in Los Angeles at the time, where G-Funk ruled that era, and much of this east coast boom bap music didn't get much play with us, outside of niche circles like Friday Night Flavas mixshow at midnight, or Sway & Tech's Wake Up Show, which came on Power 106 late Saturday nights. When I saw the notification for this review/revisit last night, I made sure to play the album before watching. Your recollection and assessments of these songs is on point. I was late to this project. Didn't buy the cassette til later in '95, after I saw "Bucktown" nominated for something at that year's Source Awards. After buying it, I use to play this album on my walkman, catching the bus to school everyday. It's that dope. I have "Dah Shinin'" in the same class as other east coast classics from that 94-96 era such as "Hard To Earn"; "The Infamous"; The Purple Tape; "Sun Rises In The East"; "Illmatic" and "Livin' Proof" by Group Home. That's back when Ney York hip hop actually sounded like New York hip hop, and not the confused, wave-riding mess that it is now, sonically. Helps that the Boot Camp Click had a dope in-house production team, Da Beatminerz, who don't get enough props. Fave songs: "Bucktown"; "Wontime"; "Sound Bwoy Burial"; "Hellucination"; "PNC"; and "Let's Get it On."

@hip-hophistorybuff yah they said so in an interview they had no idea about mastering for enta da stage. So they cranked up the bass cause they wanted it to boom hard in the cars not knowing it made it sound all muddy. So that's why a few tracks on enta da stage sound sad sonic wise.
