Great video Gus which will inspire anyone who thinks that they have the ability to represent Scotland to identify themselves to the Scottish Federation. They then can be included in training sessions at venues likely to be used in Scotland (If selected as venue) or with similar conditions to a venue liable to be used by Wales. Development is a brilliant concept from a very young age. Such training will accelerate young anglers development in the sport. Was great to see the names of anglers fishing at the weekend that came through the Junior Celtic Cup ranks from Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Friendships in sport rekindled. If I could grant you a wish Gus as you are 100% into your angling and have been great for leading Scottish Angling for many years it would be as follows. I would wish you to have the same backing as Ireland have to the sport of fishing. Fishing over there is supported and funded well at all levels whereby their teams are represented and funded right up to World levels. We can but dream as fishing in Scotland is a minority sport. In England it is probably the sport that most people participate in. This was brought home to me whilst heading down to fish in England with the Scottish Police. We headed down on the Sunday at silly O'clock to get some extra practice in on the venue prior to coaching days Monday and Tuesday. We wandered in expecting to get on the venue. Nope, fully booked as there was 20+ matches on the venue. Most of the matches were Pub teams fishing their Local Hostelry League. We were informed that we could fish from 4pm till 6pm for free on some pegs that were not being used in the match at the end of one of the lakes. We wandered about and watched some weigh ins. The weights were not great as the level of the anglers was pub teams just like in football. As I have always advocated fishing is fun at all levels and the anglers were enjoying what they did. Add to that they all paid rod licences to support funding fishing in England. The anglers have been used to that concept from their start in the sport and it is the norm for them. Try to introduce that in Scotland you would get plenty objections. It is hard enough to get people to pay £8 to fund the Feds work representing fishing in Scotland. Power to your elbow Gus.

You mention problems with the wind when whip fishing--but dont say anything about fishing a waggler float on the whip, with a waggler you can sink the line to combat the wind very effectively ,Just about all the whip fishing videos that you see NO one mentions using a waggler--,I have fished whips for over 35 years and more than 95% of the time I fish wagglers.. and use a home made whip waggler that I invented in the late 80`s, which are very very simple to make and work really well.

Think I'll get one to use on the slower Broads next year. 👍🏻

sorry only just found this video, really enjoyed this series on leam and soil, i am a feeder angler and want to include leam and joker any tips and what is the best way to freeze any leftover joker is it best to separate it first or can i freeze neat...many thanks scott

Hi Gus I have just got back into fishing after 20 years,I will be getting a pole soon,so in the mean time i just brought a 6m telescopic whip for my local lake, should I consider elasticating it because there are quite a lot of big bream and skimmers, also if I elasticated it how many sections would I elasticate ? Gus. I’m late to seeing this. Here’s an issue I could use some help with. I have a 6m whip. Typically,I would look to use it in a lake with a depth of around 5 foot. If I use a line which would allow me to swing to hand, then the lash between my tip and the float will be more than 4.5 metres. Which means that I have to hold the whip a long way to the side of where my float is. How could I fish more effectively? I have been using a shorter rig than the whip length which means I have to ship in like a pole. Which rather defeats the object of the exercise.

Hi Gus, sorry using my wife’s account. If using the whip at 5,6 or 7mtrs do you use line to that length or make them say 3 mtrs and up ship the whip as pole fishing. Thanks.

Never thought of using my feeder rod to go after flatties. Great step by step advice on set up Gus and as that area you fished is only 10 minutes from my house I will folliw your steps and give it a try.

His name is Sammy the Seal and his partner is Sadie, that’s what me and the town folks call him. He’s huge! I tried to feed him fish from the shop but he didn’t seem to eat it. I think it was because of the brine.

A lot of manufacturers like Colmic now supply top kits with a reinforced area ready for drilling. If yours don’t have a reinforced area many of the pole repair companies like Esselle Pole Repairs can add a wrap for minimal cost. Gus
