Can you tell me what the difference is and Carolina sapphire and blue ice?
@jul76738 күн бұрын
Come to think of it, the witch hazels are so called because their branches were used as divining rods to locate water. So withe, witch, and even wick appear to have similar origin and meaning
@jul76738 күн бұрын
Been curious about the common name of Witherod. Today I happened to see it spelled Withe Rod, so I looked up definition for Withe - “cord, band, thong, fetter”. Withe appears to be the source for present day “twine”. I ran here to tell you all. You’re welcome :)

I have one of these I am training to tree form. It is 8 feet tall but not nearly as full as the one from this video. I started it a few years ago as a tiny stick. The local box store had a Carolina Midnight on discount because it was sad looking. I took a chance and carefully separated it into 3 rooted sections. One died quickly, the other within months, but the baby among 3 thrived. I appreciate the suggestion to block sun from the bottom. That may be what I'm missing. It has been growing evenly from bottom to top.

I adore my sunshine ligustrum plants! They are thriving as my part of my foundation plantings in all day full sun along with the purple daydream lorapetalum and tater tots I planted. No trimming needed now after I ripped out all my boxwoods. Good riddance! Zero maintenance except for mulch. Sunshine ligustrums are my favorite!!! Mine grew about a foot and a half since this spring and are beautiful! They look great against the purple daydreams and the brick of my home. I'll be honest, I wish I had planted more of them. Love your channel!

My early wonder is blooming now. This is the only japonica of mine that blooms around this time. The rest blooms in early spring. Can you do one on Japonica Goggy Camellia?

Hi Mr. Putham, do you sell this plant or the cutting?

Jim, love your videos. With regard to sun exposure on C. japonica, it is really helpful if you can avoid early morning winter sun. Direct sun hitting it when the temperature is 10 degrees or so is the sun its leaves hate most. You can see this in March where a C. japonica is out in the open (the original tree shade having been lost to a storm): the leaves will have an unpleasant cast towards yellow.

Yep. I straddle 8a/b eastern NC. North side of the house, up against the house. It’s getting huge after 3-4 years. This fall is the first time I’ve seen blooms on it

I had an arborist out to look at the health of some trees in my backyard..in passing he made a reference to a bush we have calling it a "Hawthorn" and saying it was nice and we wouldn't want to get rid of it. So, the bush in question is likely original to the property...about 25 years old. It spans 5-6 feet high...and maybe 10 or 12 feet wide with branches 2-2.5 inches in diameter. The branches are sparse and approaching a bonsai-like sprawl. It doesn't have the same full, leafy, dome-shaped like yours or anything I see when I search images of a Hawthorn Scrub but because of it's squat shape, I'm certain it's a scrub and not a tree. It's evergreen and it does flower...white flowers, although not many, for 1-2 weeks once a year. Right now, in Nov, some of the leaves are turning red. It's located in a spot where it gets no direct sun under mature magnolia poplars, elm, and sweet gum trees. I'm thinking that perhaps the maturity of the Hawthorn and lack of ideal sunlight may be why looks different than many images I see online. Have you seen large, mature Hawthorns to speak to this? I'd like to trim it back and try to tidy it up but I don't see videos in which someone shows what I'm looking at leading me to think this thing is beasty and ancient as Hawthorns go. I'm concerned about pruning it back and being left with gangly leafless branches.

Can a full grown acuba be transplanted successfully? I am an hour east of you and have one growing where it doesn’t match with the rest of my foundation plants. I don’t want to risk killing it by moving it. If it can be transplanted, when should I move it? Love your videos!

I’m near Southport, NC and was hoping to plant a row of these on the property line (eastern side of my house, in full sun until about 3:00 PM in summer). But now I’m worried that they may get too much sun in this location. Thoughts? Thanks!! 😀

Thank you so much for posting this! I live in zone 8b and in desperate need of shade trees for my rescued dogs. I was getting frustrated in my search but your video was and is an answer to my prayer! I'm elated to start purchasing and transplanting this fall! 🙏🐶😁

I have 5 of these and they're awesome. Many white-blooming camellias have very light green leaves that don't always look that great. This variety has beautiful deep green leaves that contrast nicely with the white flowers.
