My apologies to everyone, worked on the Ai avatar graphics for this session and then ordered a pizza to eat 2 hours before the game. I ended up with a bit of food poisoning. My night sucked but feeling better now (just tired from a restless sleep).

Not having access to the map meant your players couldn't 4D role play as they are reliant on the GM to describe the layout behind each door. Why not just give them the map and have the players describe what was behind the door? In game, the map could have been a relic, and you could have maintained some control over the dungeon content by having 'Orc tribe territory' or 'beware the bones' and other such directions scrawled in blood on the parchment. The map doesn't even have to be 100% correct, as long as the players feel they can populate the rooms. 2:44 Crispy said "wish I could have just given you guys the map", er yeah. As far as I can see the player led story prompts,( ie the 4D RPG bit)were limited to: Redhanded gave the quest - a Barron's son is missing (but this might have been from the session 0); 1:35 Kreech investigating the necklace - which went nowhere;1:44 Kreech asking about who made the bird door - which went nowhere (the question, not the door); 1:50 Kreech asking about the architecture - which went nowhere. As far as saying 'Dungeon Crawls are boring' that's kinda on you. Runehammer has an entire Channel on advice to spice up dudgeon crawls, and the Veins of the Earth is one of the most imaginative supplements out there. Go checkem'out. Another problem with the 4D is because you are 'making it up as you go along' I never believed the players were in any danger. For example, despite hordes of enemies no one ever seemed to be out classed or have more than moderate pressure in a fight. THIS is why people like the crunch of D&D ( I can't believe I'm defending D&D), at least you have tactical play and repercussions. Nor does such a slack rein allow for the more strategic play of 5 Torches Deep. At one point they seem to be able to magic TWO 50' ropes from thin air! I don't know EZD6, maybe this is fine. If rolling 1s is a rule meant to result in added danger then why wasn't this happening? This is the equivalent of mini-maxing your character but THROUGHOUT the game rather than just at character creation. Isn't half the fun torturing your PC so they crawl through the dudgeon on bloody stumps rather than strolling around picking up treasure? Overall the Role Playing and GMing were good (as usual), but it came across as a murder-hobo-door-kicking pastiche of a D&D game than anything 4D. Have you guys considered Broken Compass as a system? It's a fast paced, easy rule-set, with plenty of room for player led input.

Yeah. We did agree to more of a 3D during our session zero. So I personally kept to how Crispy described the areas and only co-created some rocks. I think Crispy would have been better off with a flowchart diagram instead of a map (I suggested as a solution from my gleanings as a GM from Castles & Crusades game) I think we needed perhaps about 10 more minutes to get into our skins as well. Good feedback.

So this thing the town is on top of is similar to Lexx, the biomech spaceship from the series Lexx. When it needed to refuel it would land on a planet and slowly move forward, with a giant opening in the front that would scoop up whatever was in the way. Dirt, stone, water, garbage dumps, towns and people...whatever was there was "eaten".
@28mmRPG
@28mmRPG 25 күн бұрын
Oh yeah the Lexx... such a weird but interesting show, love the Brunnen G tale episode, quite the cast of characters. I never really thought of the Rumba = Lexx but I suppose it could be close, as it's still an enigma to the players it could end up being like the Lexx. The original idea was conceived on discord by the guys, we wanted to do something a little "out-there" and different. Numenera certainly suits this weird stuff.

@@28mmRPG Indeed, it does. That is the primary draw for me. I am working on a campaign using Numenera's Datasphere to access earlier earths, using different game systems for each time period. For instance, the "first world" is our own time and the players will "translate" to the Fallout RPG, as survivors in cryogenic freeze from a vault simiar to Vault 111.

The act of seeking to critique or the analysis of any aspect of life has a worth greater than gold. Mindfulness can impower everything from sports to academia, why not apply this to a beloved past time? I have never recorded my sessions and did a play back. I will have to do this every thing and discover what I and my players have been missing or overlooking in the blind love of the game. Thanks.

What I'm struggling with with the premise of this is why roleplaying the entire session is better? Watching the two example games Coleville's game, while a little chaotic, looks more fun to me than the first example presented. In the first game everyone sits around with long pauses awkwardly debating what their character would say vs the second game where people seem to be talking more naturally and enjoying themselves.
@28mmRPG
@28mmRPG 3 ай бұрын
it takes some practice and the guys in the examples are not "practiced roleplayers" It's like me giving my guitar to a buddy who knows nothing about guitar, but I manage to show him "smoke on the water"... it doesn't make him a guitarist. If you like wasting your time on not-playing the game and just want to talk mechanics and percentages and what you ate for dinner in real-life... sure enjoying a social non-game related stuff is cool but we reserve that for after the game session. What we strive for is as close to movie pacing as possible. We don't always accomplish it and we show our warts and all in our own liveplays. (and we talk about applying corrections to our own gaming)

I appreciated and enjoyed this session immensely, it was a great game! Though I would not personally give PC''s as much freedom as you did, though each person personally did very well during the session (by not overriding your roll as a referee) and you also rick rolled with what they produced. Over all, what you all produced was entertaining. Well done! I have personally done this as well as using a rotating GM, for it to work well requires specific type of players who all have the same state of mind and approach to RP!

That was a very ambitious session, and you did amazingly well rolling with the punches. Some thoughts on it: 1. At first glance the flexibility of false fags plot lines appear to be a great approach for co-GMing but I would disagree. The players need to trust where the GM is taking them as the GM is the lynch pin to the world. Players led narratives are more likely to drop off and lead to false/abandoned plots which can be hand waved as false flag ops anyway. This is especially true in one-shots where the establishment of what IS happening needs to be rapid. 2. Transparency with the rolls could be better. At one point Sonner's engineer came up with a great idea to blow the baddies away by shooting a fuel pipe. He scored a 4 and still got to ruin both guys - why make it a roll if the bar was so low? I know you lot don't like emersion breaking but as you all report the number back to the GM anyway I don't see why the GM can't say what the target number is. If the players know the system then saying its 'difficulty 8' and explain its a long shot to strike the pipe and not engulf both sides of the combat with a fireball' it qualifies the situation for all the players right? I don't know the Traveller system but it smelt like fudge. Just le them do it or give us some hard numbers. 3. Do you need to have 80% player invented plot? (I know you guys think I'm a BitD shill) but in BitD the players might say 'Tonight The Red Sashes are going to hand over a relic to the Dimmer Sisters at the docks. We're gunna bloody their noses and steal the relic for our client.' All the players know the location, the score and the opponents at the start of the game, and the plot is 100% what the PLAYERS want to do. Direction, purpose and stakes have been established immediately. The GM can focus on making up a few twists, NPCs, and what the relic is. The Lost Epoch felt directionless for the first hour and a half, and frankly I nearly turned it off (boo-hoo poor 1D gamer can't even stay focused for 4 hours). I'm glad I didn't turn it off. It's a delight to see you all running on full afterburners, and WOW🤯 Shonner in an actual game!
