Yo!!!!!!!! This is your second video I'm watching and it is really good. Interesting to hear you admit a weakness in your own game. You mentioned being slow. Has that always been true for you? Is it something you have worked to improve? Or is it just part of your game that you are comfortable with. Some professionals have been relatively slow, famously Busquets, for example.
@thelbperformance13 сағат бұрын
@@shantiescovedo4361 yes I’ve always been slow! My dad played for South Korean national team and he was a quick, big striker but I must have gotten my mom’s speed haha. So I had to learn how to create space for myself early to my advantage. Speed training wasn’t exactly an option for my growing up. Also, don’t quote me on this, but speed seems more genetic
@shantiescovedo43612 сағат бұрын
@ Thanks for the response. I agree that a lot of speed is genetic, but some aspects are more trainable than others. I think it is especially possible to train acceleration, though perhaps not necessary depending on the other aspects of your game. I appreciate you giving us technical breakdowns. Some of your content is new for me and I feel like I have invested a lot of time in studying that subject.

Dribbling is, in my opinion, one of the most overrated skills in football. Spending forever teaching kids to dribble with the ball is a serious waste of time (again, my opinion). Watch any modern day soccer team and who, beyond strikers, do any dribbling? Much more time should be spent in teaching kids how to pass the ball correctly and accurately, teaching them to receive and control the ball (not just from perfect passes), teaching them about off-the-ball movement, teaching them about communication, teaching them about field positioning (i.e. not everyone chasing after the ball). Those are much more important skills, but the amount of time that gets dedicated to dribbling videos, one would think it's the only aspect of soccer that means anything.
@thelbperformance14 күн бұрын
@@slainiae the rebuttal to that is - FIFIA’s view on grassroots has been changing the last few years, along with the big nations’ federations. They see dribbling as the tool for players to express themselves. Just like how words are to writers. Also before it’s a team game, it’s a game of 1-on-1. If you’re excellent at your foundations of 1-on-1 you will always be half way successful. You asked who does any dribbling - I can name countless. The world’s best players have always been some of the best dribblers we have seen. For generations. Cruyff? Maradona? Pele? Ronaldo(s), Messi, Ronaldinho, Salah, Mbappe, and more. Of course, there are other standouts who managed to reach the top level with other skillsets but dribbling will always be a tool to the player’s expression. Tactics come and go. It’s a full circle. Just because Pep has changed the game to be played in more positional and structured way it doesn’t mean 5-10, 20 years from now it will stay that way. On top of it, if you look at his players - they’re some of the best dribblers in the industry. Dribbling isn’t necessarily going past the player as well. It’s also the means to protect the ball, or to buy time for tactical reasons too. Yes the communication and passing and receiving are very important. But on the grassroots development side, it will always be easier to develop passing later than dribbling. Ask any high level coaches.
@thelbperformance14 күн бұрын
@@slainiae also - I’m mot emphasizing dribbling is the only aspect. I’m emphasizing fundamentals of ball manipulation. If the you can’t manipulate the ball the way you want it when you want it no matter the situation is, the ball will always be the biggest opponent. Get a player aged 7-13 to find a perfectly times position but then what happens when he/she gets the ball and doesn’t have the correct skill set?? It’s always you and the ball first in development.
@slainiae3 күн бұрын
@@thelbperformance1 Almost all the players you've mentioned are attackers or attacking midfielders. Games are not only played in and around the opposition's 16 meter box. The problem with over-emphasising dribbling is that as the kids get older, it's hard for them to relearn how to play football. Yes, of course, dribbling has its place, but it shouldn't be in first place (my opinion).

Somehow, I can't see a player like Romario subjecting himself to a training drill such as this one! So, if he didn't...Where do all the great players come from? What do they do that is different than what the rest of the players do, if there is something?
@thelbperformance15 күн бұрын
Back then I presume things were less structured and especially in Brazil where street football and futsal were being played 24/7. So you might be right - however what can’t be taken away is the repetitions of their fundamental skills. So for instance, one step over, or one fundamental skill can help you come up with 10-20 different variations for different uses. That’s the creativity. Also the slight edge. As I explained in one of the previous videos, everyone could get to a certain level but to get to just a level higher it can be near impossible. These players have that slight edge. Whether it’s technique, speed, mental ruthlessness, strengths, or tactically a half a second quicker than others, seeing the game earlier than anybody. There are many aspects but at the levels of where players are making a living playing football it’s all about the slight edge. You can see many footballers talking about their experiences of getting promoted the second division to the first, and it being a totally different animal of a game. Top players are unforgiving and ruthless when it comes to making the right decisions in moments and they can follow up with the technical executions.

Woah this is legit. I have very closely analysed Dembele, Messi, Bernardo, Sadio and few other shifty ball retention players. And this is the same the pattern I came up with. Atleast a version of it. If you can practice and get it to on your muscle memory, you'll be a nightmare for the opponents. And unlike step over and other flashy skills you don't have to worry about messing it up. You literally cannot. Even mistouch would look intentional and you can easily recover.

In Korea, is it true that all academies, even in the summer, never run all day because school work is more important to the parents (and to the kids too)?
@thelbperformance17 күн бұрын
Actually used to be quite the opposite. Athletes never had to study and they’d live with their team even at like age 8+. That was the culture. This was due to the sports being housed under schools. So if you were to play for the best teams you’d move to different schools in different cities. I went to 6 different elementary schools for this reason. Never had to study haha. Even after graduating high school athletes would get accepted to top schools for who they are as players not students. Things have changed a little bit for pre-U14 levels as it’s more club soccer than school soccers. Keep in mind they still do have strong school soccer programs despite the rises of club soccer cultures

Many Thanks Fran, I love the way you identify the technical skills, break them down and then proposing exercises to improve. I will try for sure these two dribbling rhythm moves. I already tried your Messi's splutter move and see already some results/improvements. One key thing that I also noticed 'by observing myself" is that you need to build/have specific muscle groups for specific moves (front quads, laterals quads, calves, hamstrings, abs,...) in order to be more effective with the move. My approach to football is like martial arts. You start with white belt, and then with new technics and regular practices you get progressively to higher grades ... all the way to black belt and more. Your videos help to develop a roadmap of new skills/technics to reach black belt level ... eventually. Keep doing these good videos. A few suggestions of topics for your next videos: 1) Include the main muscle groups required for a specific move. 2) Acceleration with the ball after a specific move could be a good topic.

I was recently explaining to my son that you need to be like a dancer in football! I wasn’t sure how to translate that into an exercise, so this is brilliant. For kids that don’t have this kind of natural movement I’ve found that you have to break up movements into their smallest steps, as you’ve done in the video. If you can do videos on improving acceleration then that would be helpful 👍
