Jesus, her take on, being autistic = abuse from teachers is just so mind boggling. On one hand, my elementary school noticed I had adhd symptoms and didn’t work to help me and that is something I resent (if I really wanted to, I could try to sue them for it). But on the other hand, once I got a diagnosis and 504 plan, the help and my school work got better, because a 504 isn’t a suggestion, it’s something the school’s legally has to follow, and. And as an S.E.A (Special Education Assistant) at an elementary school, our teachers work very hard to help students and make sure we have plans to make sure they succeed. Having bi-weekly meeting to talk about what’s working and if there needs to be improvements on our end. Because guess what? If a student needs help, we’ll help. We not gonna go “oh well they had autism there’s nothing we can do” because that’s a fucking stupid to do. Our job is to teach.
