That part of the second movement with the 'spark like' bits with hand crossing before those repeated X2 chords in the right hand sound like the barcarole of the first suite very much to me...

Since you asked why you're having less viewers, here is my hypothesis. I've noticed you're started to livestream a LOT, almost everyday, and I can't tune in everytime for multiple hours. Maybe the fact you livestream more, means you're spreading your userbase on multiple different streams, thus having less concurrent viewers ? Back then you might had more viewers because everyone tuned in at the same time ? I can't be sure, maybe it's just the youtube algorithm being weird.

BRAVO! and a Happy Healthy New Year, with many more sparkling Born To Rach videos for all to appreciate and enjoy in 2025. I wonder if you have heard this astonishing rendition of RACH 3, noted for its effortless delivery and notable for the voicing, particularly in the left hand. It's like a brand new concerto, discovered for the very first time. Sheer pulchritude; so many exquisite moments. The orchestra can hardly keep up with the speed of the pianist (played at that of Rachmaninov's very own recordings); indeed they actually tear themselves apart at several junctures. Which makes for a very risky cliff edge, but an ultimately secure (jaw-droppingly so) and truly magical memorable performance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYPShaeQm86qb6s

now that I have his second movement in my head, you may hear my performance change. It’s like Rachmaninoff’s recording, but better sounds quality and you can hear all the nuances

Gosh, every time I listen to your live streams, I fall more and more in love with your playing. I’m an organist/harpsichordist, but I love listening to piano music. And yes, I love Bach on the piano. His music sounds great on any keyboard instrument. You should perform that Rach 3 with an orchestra.

hi Born toRach - great playing! this is an etude that is particularly rubbish - but can you hear that melody from the Barcarolle from Rach suite #1? I must have unconsciously absorbed it: studio.kzbin.infoZkrkHhGuAk0/edit

Really good Rach 3. I'm struggling along with the 3rd movement myself. I've got big hands and long, wide fingers, and find the cross overs in the scherzando really hard. Any tips?!
@Weimartoccata16 күн бұрын
My main tip is hand position: the hands need to naturally return to a spot that will allow the fingers to sit mere millimeters above the keys they are about to play. Since black keys are higher than white certain fingers will need to lift more than others to prepare for each particular phrase. In order for the hands to maintain this position in the space above the keys, the arms and wrists need to find the correct height. Then, obviously, just make sure you have deft movements and shifts from position to position, when the hands play on top of each other keep the top hand’s wrist higher and the bottom one lower than you normally would, and make sure your fingers remain clear of each other in the tight interlocking chord alternations. One has to believe that if Rachmaninoff’s hands could manage it, our hands should be able to as well.

@@Weimartoccata Helpful, thank you. There's some really awkward parts of the 3rd movt. I think Garrick Ohlsson put it best, "a collection of piano etudes". The other part I find particularly nasty is the alternating left hand on the very first line between the DAD / C#E, I finger that 531 / 12 but I always find the 3 gets 'stuck' against the B flat when sliding right.. is it better to play that with a higher wrist?
@Weimartoccata10 күн бұрын
@@buckachiddyIf you’re referring to the LH at the very opening of mvmt 3, I actually must keep my LH wrist low there to make the notes, which is uncomfortable and had to be drilled over and over to get to work.

Piano sounds gorgeous! I have been practicing a few short pieces of Bach lately. I feel you should play Rach3 on the stage with real orchestra! You already have a good technique 😊 Bravo ❣️ PS : Is there any recommended way of improving finger # 4 & #5 ?
@Weimartoccata24 күн бұрын
There might be some good hanon exercises for strengthening those fingers in particular. Also, you can check out my video to see how I did it- I think I give an exercise or two suggestion. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpKbkJKFqsp0epYsi=zYYdJaV-nc5PmT14 one way is hanging by your fingertips from a ledge (if possible) for about 10 seconds.

Thank you for the guide . I was trained with Hanon when I was much younger. I am looking at the Hanon trying to find right exercise for stengthen up my #4 & #5 fingers. Having a short #5 finger really doesn't help 😭😅. But that doesn't stop me from playing the piano. I love music and piano.

hi - what's that theme from 10:55 till near the end of the movement on the first suite - kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYnPdautf5qneqc Where else does he use those 6 descending notes....some famous piece of his - I can't remember. Thanks.
@Weimartoccata28 күн бұрын
he probably uses a lot of chromatic descending lines, but I happened to notice these particular notes are featured in descending fashion in his prelude in C# minor, is that what u were thinking of? I was listening to the Beethoven quartets, and liked no. 15, didn’t particularly care for no. 13, although the fugue was interesting
