The nice thing with boards like the El Baron is how you can ride them at any length depending on the desired feeling and where you'd like it to fit into your quiver. You can go right up for the 7'0 and it'll paddle so easily and have heaps more glide, or pick the pocket-rocket 6'4 that handle decent surf and respond well to high performance surfing and critical waves.

How is the weight of the new hyfi 3 compare to the hyfi 2....which is lighter
@downthelinesurfshopАй бұрын
HYFI is definitely lighter. Not massively, but a touch lighter for sure. Lots better power transfer and flex with the carbon bottom and rails, plus the improved durability with full-length Innegra cloth.

@downthelinesurfshopАй бұрын
Good questions! Both are trying to achieve similar outcomes and would fit in a similar space in your quiver. The Xero Fusion has it's obvious swallow tail, plus thanks to it's availability in Easy Rider dimensions, you run it shorter and wider which is perfect for tight pockets in small, mushy surf.

How does it compare to the Chili MidStrength?
@downthelinesurfshopАй бұрын
Both boards are performance midlengths trying to achieve a similar sort of outcome, so there's a load of similarities. The DHD is a touch narrower so expect easier rail-to-rail transitions.

What about the boss up Which one would you buy out of them all
@downthelinesurfshopАй бұрын
Too different to just have one! I think the Interceptor is the one if you're after something super user-friendly that can still perform, the El Baron if you're pushing the limits of mid length performance, and the FM does something totally different with it's Twinzer glide and speed. The Boss Up would sit closest to the El Baron, but would be full EPS rather than PE like the JS.

@downthelinesurfshop2 ай бұрын
JS make sure they take the extra buoyancy of EPS into account when stating the volume, so ride the same volume across HYFI 3.0 and PU for exactly the same level of float.

@bob339322 ай бұрын
Did you prefer this or dhd interceptor? Thanks
@downthelinesurfshop2 ай бұрын
Different boards for a different surfer I think! The Boss Up is an epoxy construction and will have that much-loved spring and flex, and offer performance levels similar to that of the El Baron. The Interceptor from DHD is a bit more user-friendly, and built in PU.
@bob339322 ай бұрын
Comparison to el baron and did you loke 6 10 or prefer a bit bigger
@downthelinesurfshop2 ай бұрын
The El Baron from JS is aimed towards higher performance levels. It's more foiled, has higher nose and tail rocker, and is more pulled in at both ends too. If you're looking for something that's at the more user-friendly end of the performance midlength spectrum, the Interceptor is the one. 6'10 was a good size for Justin, but you could ride these right across the stock sizes from 6'6 to 7'6. Longer would have more glide and drive, the 6'6 would feel pretty maneuverable in the pocket.

Carbotune is JS' take on a carbon construction. Both Carbotune and DA are trying to achieve the highest possible performance levels, with next level energy transfer and durability. By spending 6 years developing their own unique process in-house, JS have been able to achieve this and offer it a lower price too. Carbotune is the THE ONE.

Did you notice much difference between the 6 "10 and 7 "2 as far as performance. I'm 6 "5 and 87kg n thinking of going for a 6"8 as a shortboard and a 7 "0 for a midlength. Maybe just go 6"10 in between. Thanks

Clustered fins are a worry. Mick is riding Snapper there and any board rips with speed. Also the wing on the diamond? Well wings are great (and should be brought back quick) but so close to the tail probably irrelevant. Diamond tails went out back in the 70s.
@downthelinesurfshop2 ай бұрын
Not just footage of Mick, the opening shots are of our team rider Jayce Robinson at Porthmeor. It's a pretty classic Cornish beach break, where not everything can be ripped.
@mrmr3142 ай бұрын
You can ride anything at 5'6" and it will rip. Even a fence paling or toothpick. You just need a rider about 5'6" tall and weighing around 65kg. Mick F is thin and light and like another guy said below, QLD waves are easily rippable and you can get speed going quickly. Crap waves in Sydney certainly aren't QLD.
