Back to the Down The Line boardroom with Justin, and the new Tri Plane Hull from Channel Islands. This single fin is inspired by the 70's transitional-era hull designs of George Greenough, but with the modern stylings of Britt Merrick and Devon Howard.

Just one correction - it's not a traditional displacement hull; it's a triplane hull. You seem to be confusing the two, and the differences are not trivial. Hulls are for points and long slopey waves, but this thing goes in a much wider range.

Awesome video! Question for you, do you think the 7'11" TPH would be a good board to transition to from a longboard? This would be on East Coast U.S. waves. Thanks.

How do you think this would go in choppy US East coast waves? Mainly riding knee to shoulder, onshore winds

Hey Mike - all a good choice, especially the TPH. As a side note, we LOVE the vBowls, but it's definitely not a board for smaller, slack waves as it's very much a performance single fin. Any q's, reach out on email, insta or give us a call!

Hi Mike. I would recommend the Outlier (2+1, 7ft) if you want it predominantly for smaller, mushier days. The Ova will also go well in the smaller, weaker stuff, but is more suited for once is starts picking up a little more. I think the Ova is a better option for a one-board quiver, as it is does better on the top end, and also with the different fin options. I am also a huge fun of thunderbolt tech.

The vbowls is definitely a niche board. It's great if you surf Rincon and C-street, but otherwise it's really limiting if you surf beach breaks and not long, easy points. Just my opinion based on having one. The TPH on the other hand....ahhhh so fun and versatile. Don't get me wrong, I love Ryan's boards and have a bunch!
