@@Kevin-tl1zs in truth, journalists hated Jacob because he's a boy and they wanted a big win for feminism with evie. So they simply slander Jacob and promote evie. Fans read these takes, and see the same takes on now confirmed bribed youtube channels, and there you go. Suddenly fans are copying the false narrative that's anti Jacob. Due to Jacob being rhe primary protagonist of the story, who players play as for over two thirds of the story, and who the open world and all it's activities are built for, the constant slander against Jacob, makes the game feel unwelcoming. Meanwhile, people normally don't want to invest in evie as a character because she doesn't suit the unique stuff this game offers, she's very 2 dimensional and as a result boring to most people, and she only has one third of the story. Evie is clearly a side character. So she's not worth investing in for a potential fan. Ultimately the slander against Jacob, and poor efforts of pushing evie into a "twin protagonist" role that she's fundamentally not able to efficiently fit, has given syndicate a bad reputation.

@@chrismoore5333 I see. Tho I loved Jacob and Evie's interaction and their character developments it was pulled off in a good way. The story wasn't anything special but it surely felt Assassins Creed.

@@Kevin-tl1zs well Jacob's story is a sort of paying respects to the original with altier. You see the lead writers of syndicate (they didn't write evie or her levels, evie's story was written by a side quest writer) had also been the lead writers of the first game. Jacob is a mirror to altier, as Jacob is the last protagonist they created and wrote for. Altier and Jacob both begin as reckless young born assassins, rebellious and arrogant. They go through the story taking down templars for good reasons, but causing chaos each time they do so. Jacob and altier both also get told their actions are negative, by malik and evie, who themselves are both more scholar like. Jacob and altier both can visit an older male character who's a sort of mentor to them, and this happens multiple times. Eventually Jacob and altier both recognise their own failings, then they choose to be more thoughtful and careful, and in a dispute late in the story, both Jacob and altier tell evie and malik that evie and malik should also take accountability for doing essentially nothing to help, and just blindly following the teachings of the mentor in the case of malik, and ethan frye in the case of evie. Jacob and altier finally defeat the older mentor figures in their lives right at the end of the story, as well. The mentor of altier, used the apple to create illusions. Roth tricked Jacob by using practical effects to make "illusions" of a sort. Jacob and altier end up recovering the shroud and apple, and guarding those items for the rest of their lives, while Jacob and altier also become mentor of the brotherhood. So yeah, I didn't write this in the most clear of ways, but I hope it was clear enough to understand. Essentially, Jacob is the spiritual successor to altier. And evie was the spiritual replacement of malik. A lot of fans miss this about AC Syndicate and AC1. Jacob even had a crazy doctor to defeat just like altier did, now that I think of it. And in addition Southwark, City of London, and Westminster are all part of the wider London region, but technically are three separate cities with theur own cathedrals. This also mirros the first game which had three main cities.
