Just a quick comment, you're making an assumption that 30k followers on X are worth more than 12k followers elsewhere without taking into account bot accounts and engagement rates between them. I've read time and again that engagement rates via Bluesky are equal to or more than X despite the lower numbers.

yea, left twitter a few weeks ago, dont post there anymore; about to delete my account tbh. the few weeks ive been fully on BlueSky ive gotten more angegement with my posts than i ever did on Twitter; ive found the FFXI community and weve formed a Linkshell and have been playing with each other in game; BlueSky has the extension to import your follower list from X if there are any with accounts on both; but I'm also an artist, so a lot of the people I follow made the jump and didn't look back. So, every situation is different, but yea. Not going back to X ever again, its like you said, just a cesspit.

Honestly, I thought pre-takeover Twitter was already pretty toxic, although I agree none of the competitors had a serious chance at that point. That they've managed to make it much worse is almost impressive.

the fact that it's made by the same guy who's supposedly had something to do with Loona, then that tells me that this won't last and these girls' dreams will be crushed (if it hasn't already). the members of Loona sued their company to break out of their contracts because of the fact that they weren't getting paid by the company BECAUSE of how much debt the company went in doing this dumb "one member reveal at a time" bs. it cost so much in marketing and that was with a 13 (i think?) member group.

You know billionaires can't be billionaires in a meritocracy because... well, because nobody can work thousands of time harder/smarter than entire families of middle class workers. But, also, because whenever a billionaire makes a public decision by themselves it's utterly stupid, like we've seen with Meta and X.

Personally I’m getting more engagement on Bluesky than I ever have on Xitter. There’s no algorithm. I only get shown things people I follow interact with. Generally that’s the only thing I want to see anyway. The problem is Xitter influencers are used to shouting into the void and letting the algorithm handle the rest. You have to engage with the community for it to engage with you on Bluesky.

Bluesky is what Twitter (I can't call it X) was pre-Enron Musk, it is an actual community People can easily get their old Twitter followers back on Bluesky, I see many users who actually have MORE followers on Bluesky than they had on Twitter The "creators" you are talking about are right-wing NAZIs who are getting banned on Bluesky because they are trying to turn it into a sewer like Twitter Decent video but your take on Bluesky is so off that it makes me think that you have a reason to make Twitter seem less bad Not sure why because you don't seem like a right-wing NAZI to me PS ever since I left Twitter I am calmer and have been having conversations with real people It is nice not being constantly being on the defensive because of attacks from the right-wing NAZIs that make up Twitter's user base
@sae27055 күн бұрын
I am glad I gave up Twitter ages ago, it was bad before Musk but now it's just worse. But I do have BlueSky. But i have heard some of the opposite when it comes to BlueSky, in that people lose the number of followers, sure, but get more engagement. And where BlueSky has other platforms beat is that people can tailor their feeds to get the content they want and not what the algorithm shoves at you. I did try Threads, but quit. People just need to stick to their guns about leaving Twitter, or at the very least, post to both places to help transition over. Because at the end of the day, as it stands, so long as Musk is confident people will stick to Twitter and not run off to a competitor, he has more power to do what he likes.

I think there are a few flaws with the implication here that it's important for creators to maintain a twitter presence, or that platforms like bluesky are inherently doomed from the start because they have a smaller userbase. ----- Let's start with the idea that "twitter is where everyone is", as you put it. There are some flaws. It's worth noting that twitter's 350 million users is not huge in the landscape of social media. It's always been a relatively small platform compared to other platforms like facebook or KZbin. It's less than half the users that LinkedIn has, and about 15% of TikTok. Worse, this 350 million user mark is *falling* - Twitter had 20 million more users 2 years ago than it does now. Secondly, the total number of twitter users is *massively* inflated, a huge proportion of accounts are completely abandoned or inactive, and a large proportion of what's left are bot accounts and engagement farming accounts. I'm an artist, and I've used twitter for 15 years to distribute my work, and about half of my followers have been inactive for over 2 years, and about a third of my followers are bots. That leaves me with only 1/6 of my actual follower count that actually engage with my content. While my data here is anecdotal, many artists I follow have expressed similar concerns with twitter's metrics. One of my pieces of art was retweeted by an artist with 187k followers this October. His retweet was only seen by 10 people. Total. And that total is just people who scrolled past it - only about 1% of THOSE engaged with his post. Giant popular creators like Kekeflipnote and small creators with niche audiences alike have all observed that their bluesky engagement and activity already eclipses their twitter activity, in a relatively short space of time after creating an account. From what I'm seeing it's usually at about 20% of the following count, that bluesky becomes the platform where a creator sees their bluesky posts outstrip equivalent twitter posts - although it varies from creator to creator. So... twitter really isn't "where everyone is", at all, it has an impressive sounding user count that's ultimately hollow, and "where everyone is" right now seems to be... elsewhere. ----- I'd also like to address the claim that these other sites like bluesky will "ultimately fail if they don't have a massive userbase from day one." That's just... not how any of this works. None of the big social media sites started out with a huge userbase, they grew over time. Bluesky right now is growing faster than Twitter did when it came into the equation... and it's not really different now because the competition is established. When twitter started out, the media dismissed it as irrelevant, why would people move to it from Myspace? You could do so much less with a microblogging platform than you could with Wordpress or LiveJournal. ----- The real question is... why do we feel that twitter is important at all? What is it about twitter specifically that gives it such a vaunted place in our cultural zeitgeist? There's two things specifically that twitter is good at, which makes it so prevalent in our culture: Firstly, Twitter (used to be) a great place for finding other content. You go there, see what your friends are talking about, and then see someone repost a news article or a youtube video or a blog post that interests you - so you follow the link out to that other piece of content to spend time with it. Twitter was always a great way to discover stuff... But that's kind of broken now. Under Elon's leadership, the algorithm now suppresses links to external content, because they take users away from twitter, and that means less ad revenue. Posts that contain external links are shoved down the algorithm and not seen... so this utility is really badly undermined. Secondly, Twitter is viewed as important because "important people are there" - big celebrities, government agencies, companies etc. It's a useful way to push out information to a large number of people, whether that be a hurricane warning, announcing a new concert tour, dropping a product launch or whatever. Thing is, if twitter is suppressing external links, it no longer becomes useful to these "important people" - if you link to your news article, or your tour announcement, or your new product store... your post gets suppressed. So when you see big ticket users like the BBC announcing that they're moving to bluesky, really the writing is on the wall. Large celebrities and organizations are the only real reason that twitter has any relevance, twitter is killing its utility to those accounts, and they're migrating accordingly. The more of these accounts that move, the less the narrative that "twitter is where everyone is" feels true, and the less people feel they need to maintain a twitter presence. The overwhelming majority of artists left the platform after the ToS change in November. This change basically says that you relinquish your ownership rights of anything you post on twitter... so creators have ditched it. Without big celebrities, or media outlets, or independent creators... what's going to be left on the platform to get regular users to go there daily? The politics? ----- For me, twitter is no longer the tool it used to be. It's far from "the place where everyone is." In fact, I don't think I personally know anyone who still uses it actively.

I went from a 25K twitter account to a Bsky account that's now around 5k followers, at this point the engagement isn't that much worse on Bsky than it was on twitter in the final weeks before the switch. I do agree that getting real traction on threads seems difficult, but Bsky is doing pretty alright. I'm a digital artist btw so my following is mostly built up of other artists, I can imagine the experience being different based on the type of content you create. Most artists I know let go of X at this point.
