Hey Amy, I think we're similar in many ways, but what I find most interesting is how you use your voice. It's so similar to my way of speaking. I get the feeling that you're trying to speak quieter and lower than it would naturally come out and that might create some tension in your throat. That's my case at least. I think it's a result of being around men a lot and adapting to what is seen as competent/emotionally well regulated in these spaces. Anyway, not a criticism, your voice is really nice to listen to, but if you actually feel some pain when talking, maybe something to pay attention to. I've noticed that this tense way of speaking reduces my wellbeing a lot. I haven't really figured out how to change it though... When I tried some voice exercises I was even afraid to let my voice out at its full effortless strength

@Joanna-gg4qx Yes, after this Christmas, I see gift-giving differently. I realized I’ve never lacked it from my siblings, so I’ve taken it for granted at times. Finding unique, thoughtful gifts feels natural as an INFJ, and this year reminded me how special that can be 🦋

I am an INTP, but find this super helpful and insightful! I was actually surprised with just how much of this really resonated with me! Didn't realize I had so much in common with INFJ's! A few examples being the desire to have deep conversations that really get down to the essence of things and explore the why behind things. I think INFJ's might do this in order to connect the stories/emotions of people together while an INTP might do it to put the different parts of the outer world together, but it looks very similar. Also the open-mindedness, curiosity, authenticity, quirkiness, delight in lower key dates, 50-50 mix of deep philosopher and playful gest, and wanting to talk about anything especially topics that many consider off limits such as politics or other controversial topics. As an INTP I have found I can also read people really well, though this works in a slightly different way then the way INFJ sense and basically read people's minds. The INTP version is learned through very subtle patterns we pick up over time in behavior and circumstances. You also said something about wanting people to treat you like a puzzle. I never feel like I can say it, but that is exactly how my mind works. I want to know every last detail about everyone who is willing to go deep with me. I want to know why they do what they do, what makes them tick, how they came to various conclusions, etc. It is fascinating to me to work over time to "figure someone out." I have never heard someone say they enjoy people doing that, but its fascinating to hear that!

INTP here! I have heard a lot about the INTP-INFJ pairing and have been trying to learn more about INFJ's. It has been super interesting to me that so many INFJ's have the same vibe. I don't think I have any INFJ's in my life right now, at least that I know of, but the sincerity and depth that they tend to bring is so valuable to me. As an INTP I want to be the most authentic version of myself without worry about judgement and this type generally does well at that. Sounds like this pairing is also great for any number of long conversations about whatever topic is on tap that day.

I think this is probably the toughest aspect of being INFJ in my personal experience. Most of the time when I would go into hermit mode, it was based of either anger towards not being understood by people I care or think I care about, or sadness for feeling misunderstood. But then it usually leads to a self correction which most of the time… is helpful 😂 Thank you for continuing to help us see the world in a better way and ourselves ❤

@kylegraham9559 haha that's a great question. I took the test in high school but when you're too young, your result is more likely to change since you are still growing. 20's is a great time for the test. Many find out when they are older

@ funny you say that you took it in high school, because I took it as well in AP Pysch when I was a senior. I hid my results so the class wouldn’t see because I was embarrassed that I was an INFJ and different. Also, like you said, she told us that your psyche doesn’t fully form until your 20’s or something along those lines. Impossible to expect my younger self to have the self awareness then to see it tand adapt, but it sure as hell would have made my life up until now a whole lot easier 😂. Appreciate your videos and what you do ❤️

That's an interesting observation you said about how our conclusions come after a social interaction instead of in the moment which is in contrast to ESFPs. I feel there is the other side to sensitivity that doesn't get enough credit for its importance and that's tolerance. As a direct comparison to ESFPs, since INFPs spend more time finding respite within ourselves, we are effectively closing our eyes to outside sources so we can get overwhelmed from too much external information quickly. It's like our eyes are always adjusted to dim lighting so when someone turns on a bright light, it impairs us momentarily. We are still absorbing that information, that light, it just takes a while for our eyes to adjust, or in most cases, we have to wait for the light to subside before we can start tackling what just happened. As sensory dominant, ESFPs spend more time in the sun so they don't need to adjust when there are many bright lights which gives them more space to live in the moment and have a better holistic overview of what's going on around them. The trade off is that they may miss some smaller details or may be quick to forget things as they are not practiced in recalling information since they normally deal with it on the spot.

Being able to feel how deep a person can understand and perceive the world is too real. I can tell who is a person I would have to make myself smaller to be perceived by them. I know that people tear to pieces the idea of non-verbals, microexpressions, and other frames of "reading" people. Despite that, humans have mirror neurons, specific patterns of muscle contractions in the face and body posturing is inherent in the evolution of human social/communication structures, and perceiving these signals is something we are hard-wired to do. Maintaining prolonged emotional and cognitive states crops up in the hypertrophy of specific muscles in the face, and this is attributed to why couples in their 70s who have been married for 50 years look so alike. They have hypertrophied the same muscles in their faces through the depth of their shared cognitive-emotional states. I have gotten to the point where I can reliably understand the potential cognitive-emotional range of people at a glance. I am guilty of peering too deeply into people (even if it makes them uncomfortable) and cataloging all my interactions with frequent reality testing where I question if specific thoughts and feelings are occurring in a person within the relational frame of a specific topic or experience. The hardest part for me has been acquiring the language and frameworks to package these ideas for ease of understanding.

The only thing that I can think of about empathy, is that it is my greatest gift I have <3 It has saved lives. But I come off as a bit harsh, bitter and critical if I feel I've reached or overextended my own boundaries in trying to help them overcome their challenges. It can feel like a sense of self abandonment or sacrifice, and this happens often, even when I'm not aware of it happening. It's a form of a savior complex that are just deeply encoded to who I am. The greatest lesson for me is to learn to walk away, even if my heart wants to "save" them, but when it goes beyond my own capacity, I have to remind myself to step away even if my heart would hurt for them. Learning that empathy even has boundaries, otherwise it will lead to empathy fatigue/burnout.

it feels like every interaction we have is a probe into the other person's psyche and each new detail changes the meaning that flows both ways, a new interpretation of past and a new foresight into future. all of that happens without having to try and then we get strong hunches that almost all the time when taken a little while to observe have a very logical chain of valid conclusions.

Hey Amy! You explanation is amazing. I don't want to categorieze myself as INFJ because this kind of lablelling enables superiority complex and I don't like that behaviour actually. But as I am learning about myself, it feels good to know that I am not weird at all. I have something to share. I have noticed this projection phenomenon in which people get to know me, my fully formed opinions and the start acting like they own it. But after sometime they starts feeling threatend by my presence and stop talking. After some time the character they borrowed from me starts fading and then the become absolutely opposite. For eg. I am a good teacher and I taught them something. Then they start teaching the same thing and saying they are good teacher. After that they stop socializing and in a matter of time when they ran out of stuff to teach, they start saying teaching is worst profession. This has happened with me like many times. Like more than 3-4. Have you ever felt or experienced anything similar? Thanks for reading ❤

If I know an ENTP and/or an ENFP friend will be at a party, it raises my chances I'll go. There could be generational INFJ differences. As a Gen X INFJ, I was raised into adulthood in the analog age. It was so boring staying at home that as kids, we all went outside to play with one another. I think that matured my Fe and honed my social skills. Newer INFJs are more distracted by the digital age, I even noticed the parks I used to play at are all empty of kids. My last ENTP tomboy ex-girlfriend brought out the juvenile fun in me. If you watch the movie "Good Will Hunting," you'll see how us ultra-rare male INFJs roll. Will, on a date loves to have juvenile fun with his new girlfriend (an ENTP?) with periodic deep dives with her. There's a playful inner child in this male INFJ. It just takes the right kind of extrovert to make him come out and play, like an ENTP tomboy tossing pebbles at my bedroom windows, telling me to put down my book and come see this cool thing she found.

Since the mind mostly exists in time: either in the past, the present, or in the future. We're often introspecting and decoding the past or, INFJ's being future-oriented thinkers, thinking and planning for the future. Se, being present-minded is our inferior function. The main reason why I love dating foxy ENTP tomboys (more logical than feelers) is because she's a master at being present-minded. It's such a huge relief for an INFJ to be with extrovert with a compatible and mutual synergy that can get us out of our heads...and to live in the present time frame. Metaphorically, ENTP tomboys have the attention span of an adorable 4-month old Golden Retriever puppy (it's how INFJ males sees them - they're full of positive energy, courageous, highly intelligent, creative and fun). Living in the present, learning new things, not in our mind overthinking, it feels like drinking from a cool refreshing spring being under the wings and hanging out with an ENTP girlfriend that enjoys expanding out our comfort zone (it's like they live for that, they love to show the extroverted world to an INFJ lone wolf.) INFJs, as young teenagers are dealing below the surface, existential questions (agree). We go thru an existential crisis and learn how to deal with it better as we grow into adulthood, most people deal with that during their mid-life crisis (knowing they only have a very short time to unpack it). INFJs don't have a mid-life crisis, our mid-life crisis happened when we were young adults, we gave ourselves time to unpack it, and as mid-aged adult, we have the space and mindset to not take life for granted and experience the world in awe and wonderment, while everyone we grew up with are having a melt down. Just saying we had our mid-life crisis as young teenagers, young adults then eased into enjoying life... that's age reversal.
