When they are babies do I only put on a heat source? And until what age do I have to use a UVB bulb? Another question, what focus do you recommend to start the enclosure? I'm going to buy a baby.

They remain very small but you have to keep them in spacious environments when they are sexually mature as males are often aggressive towards females. Happy Sunday 2 Like

Most Central american wood turtles need about 50% land and 50% water. As hatchlings you can raise them in most shallow water and a rock for basking area.

@Project_Turtle2 жыл бұрын
If you pause the video where I show my filter plans. It lists what substrate I used. I used a 2 inch uniseal (amazon). and a 1 inch bulkhead faucet for the drain. Good luck :) You'll also need a drill and a hold saw kit.

How's your turtle doing now? My musk hatchling is having the same type of poop and I'm concerned. It's also barely eating. Not sure if he ate a little rock or if it's parasite
@Project_Turtle2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear your turtle is not doing so well. Consider raising the water temperature and frequent water changes. Try feeding it variety and see if that will entice its appetite. Worst a trip to a reptile vet might be needed. Good luck That turtle is cleared its of stress (white poop) also almost fully grown now almost 4 inches. Another year or two and she will be a mom. :)

Shouldn't they have been hibernating in December?
@Project_Turtle2 жыл бұрын
Great question: so my answer is Yes and no. You can skip brumation (hibernation) for hatchlings. Most captive bred turtles and tortoises (depending on the species) skip their first year or two of brumation to ensure they gain optimal growth and prevent them from possibly dying during brumation. But also YES you can brumate your turtle, if your turtle is big and healthy even if its their first winter (judgement call). Just like how some hatchling turtles will grow much quicker than others, skipping a season or two helps out the little ones gain weight and size so they can safely go through it. Personally I skip brumation on hatchling turtles unless they hit 4 inches or so (depending on the species).

@@Project_Turtle hey bro I was wondering ....if you could recommend a low maintenance ....really hardy turtle for a beginner... it'll be my first time getting one and I'm thinking on putting it in a kiddie pool pond that I have shaded out....I live in Phoenix AZ.... yesterday was 106° and we haven't even hit June yet!!! So basically what ever I get will have to be something really hardy.... Kimchi.....I love kimchi..... The Korean food.....not your dog🤭🤭🤭 On a serious note though....I was wondering....what if I did the same thing but scooped the water with an empty milk jug onto the top of it....I would like to create a big filter with basically everything you have but with some live plants for additional filtration....my concern is if I was to get a pump that would force that much water up through sand and everything it would probably have to pretty strong and pretty pricey as well...even the cheapy pumps at home Depot are expensive (☹️) ...any thoughts or tips are appreciated thanks 😉
@Project_Turtle2 жыл бұрын
Not sure about the milk jug idea but it might be possible if you get a one way valve/connection but I wouldn't use sand as a filter media. Also I have never used a one way valve on a filtration system.

Thanks for watching. Hmm could be the food coloring in the food itself. If it's bright red like blood. I would be concerned about anal damage caused by another turtle, passing a rock (impacted, and the object passijg thru damaged the colon) possible infection of some sort. Would consider talking to a vet. I wish I could you more. Provide it clean water. Change the food? Remove all gravel and anything it can possibly eat.
