love how they completely left out the largest battle of the napoleonic wars altogether the battle of Leipzig. 500000 soliders in one battle but it was skipped.

For a movie that was meant to be British propaganda, you'd think they'd make it more accurate just to sweeten it. I think I can confidently say that even his grace the Duke of Wellington would be rolling in his grave if he saw how his final battle was depicted. Hell, Sharpe still managed a lot accuracy and even respect to Napoleon despite not only being a series focuses on the brits, but a low budget one at that. Yeah, no Ridley. None of your scenes were even remotely close to soldiering. You will hear from my cousins from Horse Guards and my friends in Court!

War and Peace has an interesting interpretation of Borodino. The Russians were able to break the momentum of the French, and actually won the battle. The Russian losses were so large they had to retreat behind Moscow to regroup. But the capability of the French to attack was crucially broken. So, despite having to retreat after Borodino, it was a Russian victory. I’m not enough of a military man to property evaluate that, but it was interesting.

Like most words in the Greek language that have a profound etymology and an ancient background, Alexander’s name (Alexandros in Greek) is derived from the ancient Greek components alexo (I defend) and aner (man), literally “Defender of Men”.

Also what i know about French army? - French with allies stand against Hitler lower number of days then just 1 house in Stalingrad. Also what i know - Napoleon enters Russia with more then half milion soldiers, and after left Russia with 15 thousand soldiers ( abandoned the army run to Paris alone)

Borodino was just like the Battle of Bunker Hill a Pyrrhic victory. While Napoleon defeated the Russians, his army suffered heavier casualties and the Russians were able to retreat in good order. And despite Napoleon taking Moscow, the Russians still did not surrender and burned the city behind them. After pointlessly waiting two months, Napoleon and his men retreated out of Russia. The Russian summer and winter, disease, scorched earth tactics by the Russians, and constant hit and run attacks by Russian troops both Cossack raiders and regular infantry also contributed to Napoleon’s defeat. His army marched out of Russia and to the beginning of the end of their emperor’s power in Europe
@poil835121 күн бұрын
phyric victory yes. but debatable that the russians were able to retreat in good order. they withdrew because of nightfall and they were exhausted. both armies suffered roughly similar casualties, though the french couldn't replace their losses but the russians could. the russians were actually in pretty rough shape and were forced to leave moscow. of course that worked to their advantage when the local residents started to burn the city down and the french had to withdraw rapidly.
@nicholasgallo359921 күн бұрын
@@poil8351 well they did retreat in a decent enough order that the Russian army was not completely destroyed

@@nicholasgallo3599 well considerjng french lossses at borodino i doubt the french were in a position to actually destroy the russian army.
