The last 4 shootings ,Plymouth, Cumbria, Dunblane, Hungerford, all these ppl were known to the poilce as not fit to own firearms, it's down to the incompetence of the poilce firearms department, so they stopped honest gun owners form owning pistols and semi auto centerfire, funny how gun crime has gone through the roof from illegal firearms, thanks to Tony Blair

Hmmm, I always thought that the NAAFI catered for service personnel from all four Home Nations, not just English! 😛😁😛As for the leaflet, it sounds patronizing as f**k from the bits that I can read. I Have both volumes and am disappointed by the lack of citations, sources, and bibliography. Similarly the author provides no primary documentation or attribution. The text is minimal and unsupported. These books are full of pretty pictures but little else. It is absolutely true in the minefield that is collecting German helmets, research is necessary, but it is incumbent upon the collector to make sure that his reference materials are supportable by primary sources. I find this series of Schiffer books to be nice to look at but of limited value. I think we need to hold the "experts" to a higher standard of scholarship, which is totally absent in this series. For the gold standard of helmet collecting books, look to the studies by Mark Reynosa; I have five of his books, also published by Schiffer. Reynosa is a meticulous researcher who provides reams of information which is supported by the primary documents that he cites. His level of scholarship is superb and his books should set the standard for helmet references, but sadly, collectors don't hold other writers to that standard; instead, we are dazzled by glossy, beautifully-lit helmets, which may, or may not, be legitimate. Research is essential, but one must go beyond this eye-candy of pictures, two sentence captions, and absolutely no supporting material. Let's demand better.

Cheers and thanks for the comment, no its not ice cold....although that is a great film. I get you about the denix stuff....and thats all I do with mine , display only, although the ppsh41 seems to be quite robust, I do think the outer barrel cover is made of ordinary steel rather than the cast, I should check it with a magnet. Ten years ago it would have been daft to buy a denix SMLE as deacs at that point in time were a lot cheaper, but now if your on a budget then maybe the denix will do, for example I'd never be able to afford a deac MP44 , the denix one is fine for me....all the best 🙂

Hey Stan! Certainly has it's place in the collectors world for budget reasons. Reenactment guys especially as you don't want to wear original gear. But I've always thought if your reenacting let it get busted up as you go along. More natural and you're not usually issued an aged helmet 😂. One for the future..coating the helmet in bleech and roasting it in the oven will give a good rust bl××d effect. Alot of ground dug helmets use this technique with a fake decal! But it works very well! PS if helmet roasting on a sunday, prepare to be in dog house. I speak from experience 😂 so beware 😂 Tried writing this comment 3 times no clue why it gets deleted instantly

And, below, rack upon rack of chained up Lanchester guns, polished wood, blued steel and brass, as you show. That's the nearest Ive been to one, until your video today! Happy New Year 2025 Stan bro ! That's a really sweet deac mate.. I had never even heard of it until now !! ..awesome to learn something new so soon into 2025 ! The stock looks in great shape !! Did that cocking bolt fly backwards and forwards as it was fired ?.. as per the Sten gun !! ..My Dad used a Sten.. and he said iy uou weren't careful it good really mess up the tips of your fingers.. which is why they held the mag with the left hand (I believe !) I have a 'Steampunk' uniform jacket ! You could make a good kebab with that bayonet !! 😉😁 Cheers mate !!

Real nice addition to your collection and a great review on it. Considering that the original MP18 / MP28 SMG design went back to WWI trench warfare, I think that the British completely misunderstood the concept by sticking on a huge bayonet and such a long magazine! One good thing for your collection is that it wasn't just used by the RN but also the RAF Regiment (during WWII) and, more importantly, it was issued to the Royal Marines and used by them for their jungle warfare in the Far East back in the 1960s. The Royal Marines didn't, however, use the bayonet and mostly used the Sten mags as they fitted into their 44 and 58 pattern ammo pouches. Guess that this gives you the freedom to make up a non navy display for it using kit that you already own without having to buy navy stuff. Nice example anyhow and interesting that it had been exported. Sadly, the RN destroyed all their remaining stocks in the late 1970s. Did you know that your Lanchester was also issued to the Commandos during WWII and used during D-Day?

Hey Stan! Cool piece of kit. Adopted by the admiralty in WW2 and predominately used by the Royal Navy. The army were not fans of it at all. If memory serves I believe the army actually rejected it. Happy New Year! All the best for 2025. Will you be at Stoneleigh? Im a southerner 😂 but your voice sounds like Stoneleigh maybe close to you? Im sorry if im completely wrong!! All the best mate

Very nice Lanchester smg. They are an interesting weapon and especially with a 1907 pattern bayonet fixed to it.
