I'm still loving the binos you kindly gave me.. the big pair stay in the house for OP ! 😁 and the smaller pair join me on the trail when I hit the woodlands !. I was using them just the other day and spotted a mountain hare ! Have a great weekend my friend !!

They are definitely military they mention seeing gun flash and for anti aircraft work and even barbed wire not the kind of thing you would need sitting in your garden on a Sunday afternoon with some light refreshment , that’s a great find 👍

Thanks , I think you are correct , yes that makes sense ....I wonder if mixing up the lenses would enhance the 'light refreshment ' experience?!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣, onwards and upwards....oh BTW I tried to find the photo of the german soldier on the eastern front wearing a checked shirt and his steel helmet..been through my books, can't find it. If I come across it I will email you the image....all the very best 🙂🙃🙂

No idea whether these are military or civilian but I'm guessing prewar civilian aimed at military users. They are Eastman Kodak (note the E & S code at bottom for Eastman & Strong) made Wratten filters. These are still used today with DSLR users and telescope users. For example, I use a number 21 filter to view Mars and a number 82 filter to view Jupiter through my telescope. Modern filters just screw onto the optic lens.

Thanks Al , ah good info on the maker. You might be correct about the origin of the filters...I had no idea. They do work and I might take a couple out one day when I'm having a bit of a hike. I rather think it would be next to impossible in the heat of battle to use them...'no sarge , violet is for air attack not mist cutter.....or is it tangerine?'🤣🤣cheers m8

@@steelhelmetstan7305 I guess that they were intended for Ack - Ack units and Home Guard units rather than front line soldiers. Good for the Home Front collection, I suppose.

@@Landsturm yes that's a good call Al, thanks for that....its unusual looking through them , gives one a different perspective for sure 🙂🙂
