Back then he was just a kid who was very talented spending endless hours on a drum machine. Time has proved he was the best to ever do it. I don't think he truly understands he was actually the King of the Beats even to this day

During the mid to late 80s it was Mantronix, Marley Marl, Bomb Squad & Paul C who were advancing Hip Hop beats to that next level. All pioneers of drum machines & samplers.

Still listen to Mantronik today. Been a fan since 1985 when I heard "Bassline" and "Johnny The Fox". Good to see Mantronik getting his props! Hip-Hop greatest on the 909!!

Must have been about 1984 when I was in my very early teens and I loved going into town with my hard earned paper round money to buy new12" singles and visiting second hand record shops. My first step into making music happen on a rare visit to Argos where I saw this keyboard on display. I remember then franticly dashing home and back again on the bus. I think this was due to my lack of funds and my need to beg my parents to lend me some money for it. I think I was in a frantic panic because it was the last one and it was reduced. The joy and excitement of actually owning a sampling keyboard!! Not sure what I did with it. Hearing Disco1 again brings back happy memories.

It's a real shame that some of the original producers within Hip Hop, Frestyle / Electro, etc, are not seen on the same level as better known producer's, that came much later on, after KMK.

Kurtis should have never signed with Capitol Records should have stuck with Sleeping Bag Records because it was all down hill when he went pop and couldnt live up to the demand to produce hits for Capitol and they sued him but he was the man back in the day

@@mecdj True , The contract he got was a lot of money back in the day and most artist wouldnt have turned it down but at least he was getting a lot of air play and was making a name for himself as a top producer in hip hop and R&B while on Sleeping Bag. I knew a guy that worked at Sleeping Bag Records at the time Kurtis was there and he kept me informed with the whole Mantronix situation and i believe there was other labels interested in kurtis as well.Just think if he would have started his own indie label back then. Also i got a chance to meet and talked to Kurtis and Mc Tee around that time and Kurtis was a quiet guy but very cool

Kurtis Mantronik.. the only producer that would bother to read the manual that came with his gear... or kept a little Japanese man from the Roland factory with his TR 909...

Me too mind you that MRT looked the part but wasn’t as good , the sound was worse as was the line switches ( transformer) as they were too long a click if you know what I mean , anyway it looked wicked in the Silver Bullet video !!

I wish I could meet him and express how much of an epiphany his music was for me and how much his musical expression changed me back in the day. They say you should never meet your hero's but for me, mantronik and krs1 are the exceptions to that rule.

It always bugs me out how nonchalant he is. I sometimes think that he has no idea how influential he's been on so many current producers, even the likes of Timbaland, who mentioned him specifically and how his influence can't be talked about enough.

This was my second mixer after my 32-1100A i got this after my 1210 upgrade from my belt drive jvcs . Back then i was in ore of jazzy cash money and aladin would of given my left leg for the gemini back then (Even though they were crap). My rane 72 is amazing but the struggle was real back then using a tin a month in wd40 on that crossfader. Great memories. That was a mere 32 years ago WOW.
