Really, most full-throttle bursts of speed happen at highway speeds, not from traffic lights. That's when the extra power may be worthwhile. Still, my Stock Supra is already faster than 95% of anything on the street, and I can get gas anywhere.

You're not wrong about the car dropping off after 5500rpm, that's where BMW are limiting it in contrast to the CS/M3/M4. If you compare dyno graphs it's very noticeable.

there was one touring config that basicly is an m3, the 330d. its got as much torque stock and you can easily push the engine to 300-500hp

I've had my '09 convertible 5 years, it's been good. Bought it w/85k, has 110k now. Super daily drivable, bad gas milage, super fun.

Nobody should knock the swap. Still a great 6 cylinder, just LOTS more power now
