Shoot, you know what I just remembered, I could have sworn to get a better brightness on the orange paint, they would paint the diamond in white first and then apply the orange once the white has dried. At least that's the stencils that I've seen. But in all honesty, once I seen it dried, you can't really tell. It was just the fact that when you said it was watery I could kind of see the OD underneath. But it looks authentic.

Personally I would do mine as one of the Cavalry Recon Groups, like the 106th or 15th Cav. Grp. and one as a 5th Regimental Combat Team (RCT) Korean War. Really simple on that one, just a two inch diameter red pentagon with or without a one eighths inch white border on both sides of the M1. I love the Captain Miller homage though. I love SPR. Great tutorial!

You may want to get an airbrush and/or a cricut machine if plan to do a lot more markings.

I rarely do markings on helmets, I prefer a "factory finish" look. I've wanted an SPR helmet for a while now, though.

Heres a tip, you need to grind down the cork when it comes out the bag, so its not so big, and looks so sharp when on the helmet, the cork is too pronounced. should be more subtle Give it a shot!

Couple questions, what kind of blasting media should I buy if I want to restore a VN helmet? What colors & Brands of paint should i but to restore the helmet and liner? How should i go about de-rusting & paint stripping the helmet?

For the media, I got Black Diamond brand fine media from tractor supply, you can get a 50 LB bag for about $13 which is more than enough for a lifetime but they didn't have anything smaller. I used Crosslink FS 34130 paint. If you have access to a blasting cabinet, then sandblasting is the quickest way to strip a helmet shell. I use brush-on paint stripper and a wire brush to strip mine. It takes a while but I don't have a blasting cabinet

Several coats of paint and clear coat from all angles, both of which I learned the hard way. On my newer restorations I still have some cork fall off but it's not as bad as it used to be at all

It's a restoration. When I got it, it had what little was left of the green paint on there so I stripped it off and repainted it as it came out of the factory. The turtle shell pattern is cool, but it wasn't the goal for this project.

They were used for honor guards and parades. My grandpa had one when he was in the MP Honor Guard in the 1950s

@3:54 the m1 soon to be an m2 helmet has been stripped down to a chrome dome or in the case of the metal it’s a steel dome but chrome dome just sounds cooler.
