I have questions. What colors did you use and where did you find the sticker set. And I know the general colors I would like the specific colors if possible.

Sir, you've done a magnificent job on this f100. I have an 81 with a 4.9. I gave 200 bucks for it in 2002. I've been working on mine for the last 4 years. My column shift is wobbly and I was thinking of doing the floor shifter. Where did you find yours, and is it difficult to install? Thanks for sharing. It gave my truck hope.
@austinweird3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the nice comment. Sounds like you got a deal on your truck. I paid $800 for this one and bought it about the same time you got yours. That shifter is a Hurst Promatic 2 and you can find them anywhere. I really like it and it was an easy install on this C-6 transmission. One suggestion, be sure and get the shifter with the extended stick. They also make that model with a short stick and I don't think it would be comfortable in the truck. Another thing is that this is a ratcheting shifter which makes downshifts very easy. You can just get rid of that kick down lever, and no need to buy a kick down cable for whatever carb you put on your truck. The ratcheting shifter is so easy to use, there is just no need for automatic kick down.

Where might one find that style of bed cover to fit these old pickups?
@austinweird4 жыл бұрын
That is a bit of an issue, as you probably know. The one I have in this truck is a Duraliner that fits under the rails. The problem is that on these trucks, whether they have an aux fuel tank or not, the bed has an indention just behind the left fender well to make room for the filler neck to the aux tank. As far as I know, no one makes a bed liner that fits around that indention. My solution was to spend about 5 minutes with a ball peen hammer and get rid of the indention. Then the bed liner fit just fine. Hope that helps.

@@brandonwright8974 I should have mentioned something about the decals. I get those from Vintage Reproductions. A set for the SS16 is $62. The paint I used on this one is Rustoleum. The yellow is called Tuscan Sun and the other is Gloss Beige. On this second tractor I'm doing, I plan to use Caterpillar Yellow and Gloss Beige. I get the Caterpillar Yellow at Tractor Supply.

Touching a fawn will not hurt it or cause it to be abandoned by its mother. That's an old wives tale. If the mother smells a human or other foreign scent on her fawn, she will simply relocate it because she correctly assumes its hiding place has been discovered.

Good luck with it and let me know if I can offer any advice. Most of it is just a straight forward restoration. The only thing that took a lot of time was the instrument panel. You can keep that big printed circuit board that all the original instruments are mounted to. You can carefully run the traces to figure out where to connect your new instruments. You will need to cut off the plastic mounting posts for the old instruments to obtain enough depth to mount your new instruments. I used 1/4" plexiglass for the panel and covered it with a vinyl overlay.

Great build, thanks for sharing. I I have nearly the same setup. Can you share how you got the carb with linkage running like a V8? I was told the offy has to run left right vs front back as you have it here. In other words, my primaries are nearest the valve cover but this makes my throttle cable have wrap all the way around the carb and I hate it. Can’t really set up a kick down this way. Are you still running this with primaries facing the radiator? I was told this would starve rear cylinders at low rpm.
@austinweird5 жыл бұрын
Sorry to take so long to respond. Your comment didn't get published automatically and I just now found it. It doesn't make any difference how you mount that carb. I've got over 5,000 miles on this truck since the rebuild and it runs absolutely perfectly whether idling or pulling a heavy trailer. Keep in mind you can easily over-carb this small displacement engine, then it definitely will not perform properly when there is low air flow through the carb. If I remember correctly this is a Holley 4160 with 390 CFM - about the smallest 4 barrel you can find. I tried it with an Edlebrock for awhile and, as far as I could tell, they were equal. Personally, I'd save the money and go with Edlebrock. BTW, just to let you know, that Offy manifold is the C-Series.

Michae Brown, I’m 16 & I bought a JD212 about 3yrs ago when I was 14, the carb pledged the tractor ever since I’ve had it, finally replaced the head gasket, & the carb & I bought an aftermarket carb & the gaskets were trash so I’m ordering fabric to make my own, & last night I finally got it running the way to should be so it’s running good for now at least, still need to do the points/replace them cuz they’re shot. Just found an st-12-16 it’s at my buddies house & it looks like a 12 but I didn’t get any pics of the motor so it’s either a 12 or a 16/OHV. I’m excited about getting it cuz I’ve been looking for a sears suburban for a while now, it’s a bucket list item. I fixed repainted my Deere & it looks great... for now at least, now I don’t what to get it dirty... hahaha MikeJD60 is my channel where I have a video on repainting it.

Thanks for the inspiration! I just built one similar to yours. I didn't want to have to drill a big ol hole and weld a 2" pipe nipple in there like everyone else is doing. This seems to put out plenty of "blast" to seat anything i mount.

You are right, it does fine for most things, but would not hurt at all if it had a larger discharge opening. I've ran into a couple of tires that took me two or three tries to get seated. Did great on those heavy skid loader tires though.
